You read the topic correctly!

Beginning plans have begun for the 2004 OKGE. The Place to be September 18, 2004 will be at the Marriott Southern Hills Hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma! This year we have approximately 4500 sf of space for a larger Museum area, more space for more vendors (As some had to be turned away last year due to lack of space...), more space for exhibitors (As a few of them also had to be turned away...). More more more!!!

At this time the OKGE is seeking sponsors for the show, vendors, and exhibitors interested in securing tables now for 2004 OKGE.

The 2004 OKGE will be massive fun for all!

Let us know if you do have an interest in tables or sponsorship for the 2004 OKGE at OKGE@cox.net.

As with last year, I'll be at OKGE once more, with the mighty Magnavox Odyssey in tow (and, of course, at least one Odyssey 2 - just wouldn't be me if there wasn't one).

Just a quick heads up to let you know that this really puts it official. The webpage is now online for the 2004 OKGE!

You can access the webpage via this link:

We already have several exhibitors signed up, but we still have plenty of tables and space available!

Check the webpage Details, Vendors, and Exhibitors areas for updates as they happen.

Just a reminder, OKGE crew, I'm awaiting sonsorship information. We're behind this 100%.

I love the new color scheme, by the way! :)

Looks like I'll have to be free on the 18th of September and show up :) I'm considering 2 tables, but it'll depend on when you need the cash by. If you say "later, before 9/18, but it can be after July", I'm for it. If it's "right now", then I'll have to reconsider.

No we didn't miss that part. We have been very busy with the beginning prep of the OKGE. We already have half the tables accounted for!

Also the OKGE website has undergone a few updates to include the DP sponsorship. Also icbrkr has been added to the exhibitors list as well as a few other minor changes to the site.

And since you're bringing a CD32, you're making me scramble to bring something else unique :)

I've got an Aquarius setup lined up, the Astrocade died in the heat last year so its out. I might bring a Timex Sinclair setup with a MP3 player to load its games off of :) The 1200 setup will showup, and maybe a IIgs setup? I'm not sure yet.

If you haven't already, please look over the new OKGE website. The 2003 OKGE gallery has been put back online and requires the flash plugin to view.

Also another new vendor was added as the OKGE welcomes back The Neutral Zone, LLC! Last year they had lots and lots of games for old and new systems as well as collectable figures and other assortments. This year they are getting more space and bringing up their new Video Game Collector mag as well. I am really looking forward to seeing what they bring this year.

Also as requested, I visited the Marriott today and got some pictures of the Council Oaks Ballroom - Salons A & B where the event will take place.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more updates!

Funk,

OKGE will be an event you won't forget. Systems galore, ready to play! And, probably loads of stuff available to buy!
Maybe if we're real good, a new game (or two) for classic consoles will debut at OKGE.
:-P

Items I'm planning to bring (not to sell):
Vectrex: Multicart, Spinnerama(with driving controller), Tsunami/Vix, Cube Quest, and a Vectorcade joystick.
Atari Jaguar , Painter, Ocean Depths, Battlesphere, Jaguar Extremist packs, Space War 2K, Jamma Joystick, Rotary controller.
Imports:
Dreamcast: Border Down, Psyvariar 2, Ikaruga, Rez, Cosmic Smash.
Gamecube: Bonks Adventure, Castle of Shikigami, Cubic Lode Runner.
PS2: Space Invaders Anniversary, Mini-cocktail controller.
:D

Hope you can make it!

Hey Funk ... I'm dedicating my table space to console copiers this year. I'll have at least two different N64 ones, two SNES ones, a Sega Genesis one, and some other fun stuff (maybe a PSX dev unit?).

I'll also have my CD32 and my GP32 there for people to play with and check out. Can't decide on the SX64 yet -- it takes up a lot of space, and the GP32 plays C64 games anyway. :)

I plan to go as well, though not as a vendor. I don't think I can make CGE so this might be my best chance to go to a classic gaming event this year and the first real trip I've taken in forever. Looks like the basic room price is still cheap for that weekend, too. I'll be driving from GA and i'm really looking forward to it.

Finally some major updates for OKGE 2004!

First George Alistair Sanger, known in the industry as The Fat Man (http://www.fatman.com) will be coming to OKGE 2004 in the afternoon on the 18th! Just in case you don't know who Mr. Sanger is, he is a pioneer in the industry in the area of game soundtracks and audio. The Fat Man is responsible for the tune in the game "Thin Ice" for the Intellivision, as well as many great PC games such as "Loom", "7th Guest/11th Hour", "Zombies Ate My Neighbors", and one of the greatest computer games ever made, "Wing Commander"! If were really good, he might bring his "Team" with him to even play a session or two!

Also there will be an arcade area at the OKGE (http://www.okge.com) this year! This is news that isn't so shocking to most of you, and while I still don't have an official count of how many upright cabs will be there, they will be there all the same. Some will even be provided by some of the exhibitors who are attending the OKGE. These cabs will be on free play and have prices listed in case you want to take one home...

Keep your eyes on the OKGE (http://www.okge.com) website for further updates as they come in!

How much more arm twisting do we need now....hehe... :)

This is some seriously bitchin' news here. I'll be breaking the signed Intellivision poster out of its frame and bringing it with me to get one more autograph on it. :D Sounds like this is quite literally going to rock!

I too am really excited to see the controllers that Messiah Ent. has to offer. I admit that I am not an active NES collector. But I do play my SNES pretty often. For me and with a room full of controllers and cabling everywhere, a nice good wireless one would be an excellent option. Welcome aboard Messiah Ent. and we will see you guys here in September!

In addition to Messiah Ent. coming to the show, I am also pleased to announce that Game Crazy has signed on as a vendor as well. Game Crazy stores are everywhere all over the country, but only recently have they begun to crop up in "Green Country". With two stores currently open in the Tulsa area with more to open soon elsewhere, Game Crazy is poised to be your #1 buy, sell, and trade center for all your gaming needs.

Gr8! Im looking forward to the show and talking with everyone there. I agree. It is nice not to be limited by a cord and using wireless really cleans up the mess of cords everywhere. Has anyone played Famicom or Super Famicom? Its the Japanese version of the NES and SNES. Anyway, the controllers for those systems have half the cord length of the US version. I absolutely hate using the origional controllers cause I have to sit really close to the TV or I have to lean forward from the sofa. It's really great not to worry about that anymore. Anyway, stop by Messiah's booth and say hi. I'm really excted to hear more feedback. Let me know what you think of our products. (I'm also pumped to see everyone else's stuff. This year should be a really fun show.) 8-)

If you really want me to show of my skills on an NES game...we better stick to Mario 2, 3, and Batman.

Sad, but those were the only games I really ever beat on the NES back in the day on the few times I could play one. I didn't own one of my own until a few years ago. Even then, I rarely take the NES collection from the attic and play it. You guys know that I am primarily an Atari and SEGA lover anyway.

However, the SNES is really fun to play and I actually LOVE the length of the controller cables on the SNES. However the SNES was primarily gotten so that I could fire up Chrono Trigger, Knights of the Round, Magic Sword, and Wing Commander anytime I felt the need.

Lately I am struggling with getting through Super Metroid. My primary SNES needs some serious tweaking on the cart connector. I frequently fire up Super Metroid and get nothing on the screen. I wiggle the cart and turn it back on...and there we are. However, a nasty caveat to this..is that my saved game is wiped everytime...ugh...

On another note, Messiah Ent. has agreed to donate a set of NES and SNES controllers to be used in the door prizes...too bad I'm excluded...heh. Messiah Ent. is listed on the OKGE website as both a vendor and sponsor. Again, I am excited to see their products and play test them myself.

:D

Jesse,

Well, I'm not sure which games we are going to bring for the NES or SNES as of yet, but you can take your pick. I completely understand what you were saying. I'm in the same boat you could say. I never owned a NES when it first came out. I was a sega fan as well. Like you my NES skills are lacking cause most of my NES gaming occured at my cousins house. Well, until now of course. Anyway, since you're a sega fan I guess you'll be interested to hear that Messiah will develop Sega accessories in the near future. 8-) Well I'm really looking forward to the show. YEAH YEAH YEAH!!

And if you're into really old game controllers, here's a first for you: OKGE will see the first public appearance of the ultra-rare Odyssey2 trackball controller by Wico. Apparently made by Wico in very, very small numbers only - this is one of only two known to exist - the Odyssey2 Command Control trackball puts a different spin on some old favorites on this system. This will be the first public appearance of one of these controllers at a retrogaming show, and it'll be set up for play at the Phosphor Dot Fossils table.

http://www.thelogbook.com/odyssey/covers/trakball.jpg

http://www.thelogbook.com/phosphor/about/okge/photos/o2-ball.jpg

These are photos of the item as seen at least year's OKGE - and also, it's an indication that you never know what's going to walk in the door. An attendee at least year's OKGE happened to have this item with him, and allowed me to borrow it and try it out. As a result of that test drive, I've acquired this one and added it to the permanent PDF exhibit. :) So let it not be said that you won't run into any holy grails at this show!

Roll on into Tulsa on September 18th and have a ball at OKGE!

There are several other choices in the area. 51st street area has several places like a Stratford Inn, and Best Westerns that I am sure would be cheaper. They are about 3 miles from the expo but that isn't a huge distance. The only other nearby hotels in the area are the Hilton which is where the show was held last year. But their room prices are like $129 a night normally, and that is more expensive than the deal the Marriott worked with us for $89 a night.

I could be waaaaay off here, but isn't Tulsa to Dallas by car something in the vicinity of 8-10 hours?

way off base... I actually made the trip from Tulsa to Dallas in about 4.5 hours...and this was in an 93 escort wagon I might add...so it can be done quite easily.

You basically just have to take I -75 straight up...although I think some people prefer the I-35 to OKC and then I-44 to Tulsa route. Either way, it isn't nearly as long as it might seem.

As for a Friday get together, I am hoping that the room will be avail to start setting up Friday night, so I will be involved in getting my stuff and the Classic Gaming Tourney tables setup. Plus I would like to have the power strips layed out and essientially make it really easy for everyone to setup late that night and early the next morning.

Wow, only a month out from the show...it sure goes by quick when your putting these things together...

Phosphor Dot Fossils

Plus I would like to have the power strips layed out and essientially make it really easy for everyone to setup late that night and early the next morning.

I was going to ask about this. Will the room be locked overnight, will there be anyone "standing guard", or are people responsible for watching their own tables once they are set up?

I am going to be around Friday night, and I had thought about setting up Friday night because I ain't much of a morning person. Unfortunately, I'll be by myself, so I wouldn't have anyone around to "stand guard" by my table overnight.

From Dallas to OKC is approx 3.5 hours, and OKC to Tulsa is approx 1.5-2 hours. That's driving about 5 mph over the limit, and taking I-35 from Dallas to OKC, and the turnpike from OKC to Tulsa. Your speed and times may vary.

As for the Mariott, I'm sure there are cheaper places around, but it's close and convenient, and 3 words for you -- high speed internet. For us internet junkies, it's a must.

We'll have to start a list of people who might want to go eat Friday night, and another list of people who might want to get together Saturday night. I was planning on driving home right after the show, but if enough people wanted to stick around I would.

I already have something scheduled for the 17th and 18th of September.

The single greatest musical weekend ever.

It's finally official - I'm going! It's been cleared with my new manager, tables are finally paid :D. I'm now starting on the last minute rush to bring stuff. I'm unsure what to show off, I've got the following thoughts:

A C64 running Creatures (on a full screen... not my little SX screen)
A Plus/4 running some Hungarian imports (pending cable)
An Amiga 1200 modfied setup (which is very hard to transport around, dual monitors needed for the different frequency ranges), running OS 3.9
Aquarius running Burgertime
PC Engine Duo running something
A TS1000/1500 loading games off of an MP3 player (haven't tried this yet, but I'm sure it'll work)
An XEGS running something
A Commodore PET running something (provided I can get the keyboard fixed)
An Apple IIGS setup w/System 6.0.1 loading games off an old Mac

I'm not sure what to bring but I know that I'm bringing 3-4 systems. I also planning on setting up a small "sell" pile (of about 200 games :D)

Website update. Check out the picture of the Space Invaders 25th Anniversary mini cocktail controller that will be part of the grand prize:

http://www.geocities.com/bdprill/invaders.html

A standard PS2 controller fits inside, under the lid. It has suction cups on the bottom for a secure grip. It feels good, and plays well, but I prefer using a standard dual shock controller.

My intentions is to stay somewhere in Tulsa as well so I can enjoy the show this year instead of propping my eyelids open the whole day :) I got the north half of the room so I'm setting up Friday night.

Flack, did you ever figure out if I needed to bring you anything? We had been talking about Amiga stuff, but I'm not sure if anything was ever finalized. Also, since I'm bringing a C64 setup as well, let me know if you need anything for that as well.

I will arrive in Tulsa around 8:00 pm, and have a room at the Marriott.

I've got tables on the north end, but was planning to set up Sat. morning, so I could possibly blow up a few other gamers Friday night (on the screen of course!)
:D LOL

Let's have some multi-player gaming fun, Friday and/or Saturday!
:-P

The only C64 thing I could use is another Epyx Fastload cart, if you have a spare. The last time I dug mine out, the entire label had come off and the two molded plastic pieces had begun to come apart. I have several other carts that provide fast loading features (Super Snapshot, IcePic, Final Cartridge) but I'm more used to the classic Epyx shortcuts.

I'll bring my Amiga 500 setup too but I don't know if I'll have room on my table for it or not. How long are you going to be in Tulsa? I'll be in the hotel both Friday and Saturday night, so if I can't squeeze it onto my table maybe we can hook up one of those nights for a 10 minute tutorial.

Hey Brad, that sounds great! Like I said, I'll have my projector with me so no doubt we can rig up something fun.

Can't say I'll have an extra fastloader, but if you need anything software wise, I might have it with me.

I'm planning on hitting Tulsa Friday night about 7:30PM or so to start setting up (I don't get off work until 5:30 so it'll be a mad rush). As much as I'd like to stay at the Marriott, I'm not sure the rates make me happy :) I might hit somewhere else instead. I'll have the A1200 with me (the monstrosity that is the 1200) and I'll try to help with whatever I can.

FWIW, my room was $79 for a normal, non-smoking/king-sized-bed room with Internet access.

For all those I sent scrambling this weekend, thanks. I found a Genesis video cable at GameXchange for $4.

With just a few days to go, here's a sneak peek at my top secret project that I've been working on for OKGE. I'm working on this one right down to the wire, as a matter of fact!

PDF:TV is an audiovisual history of the early years of gaming, from Odyssey through the dawn of the NES era. Game-in-action shots galore of vintage arcade and console games, rare glimpses of classic video game commercials and cartoons, and much more, all in chronological order. Also featuring music by 8-Bit Weapon and some brand new tunes by Tony Fox NYC (thanks very much to both of them for permission to use their sounds!), and this is no Powerpoint presentation - it's all in motion, and produced on some real live video editing gear. It'll be repeating throughout the day so you can go check out the other exhibits and come back to it any time you like!

Chances are, you haven't seen anything like it before. :D

Sweet! That's a great idea!

<quickly rips off idea for next year>

At least my little factual sheets aren't written by hand this year and have small pictures!

Of course you are! I expected you to :)

I'm too lazy to come up with anything great :o

Enough of that... I have something to hand you at the OKGE so I can finally get it off my garage floor (my wife is coming closer and closer to running it over every day).

Got my room at the Mariott!

I'll be there about 7:30PM and I plan on setting up somewhat since I'm on the north half of the room.

What say we have a late dinner somewhere fairly cheap around 8:30ish?
