I remember seeing a video game show on Nickelodeon. It involved 3 contestants (which were kids) that play a game with this huge screen. The game was similar to a board game, each contestant ,from the booth thingy, move their kid around the board and thy to reach the goal. Once they encounter a certain challenge, they must pick out of, I think, five games and try to beat the score within a time limit. Each game will be under their own booth. For example, in booth one you'll see Robot Army for the Neo Geo, Ghouls and Ghosts for the NES, Final Fight for the SNES, and etc. If they beat the game, they beat the challenge. I think the winner of the show wins a system or something. I remember me saying to me brother that I bet if I was at the show, I'll beat all the scores like nothing on any system. LOL I also remember seeing a show on channel 9 (I don't know if it was called UPN 9 back then LOL). I believe it was Gamepro: The show, I'm not sure. Anyways, at the end of the show, some lucky kid got the chance to run around this obstacle course and grab as many games (and I think a couple of systems) within a timelimit. Whatever the kid grabbed, he/she got to keep.

The two Nickelodeon shows that come to mind are Nick Arcade with Phil Moore and Andrea Lively and Legends of the Hidden Temple with Olmec (the talking head) and Kirk Fogg. Nick Arcade was where the contestants answered questions, competed in video challenges and went "inside" a video game in hopes of winning a grand prize.
Legends of the Hidden Temple wasn't about video games really but was still awesome to watch (or at least I thought so when I was a kid). :)
The Gamepro show had some redheaded guy hosting it...I used to watch it all the time as well on Saturday mornings. Anyone remember the host's name?

The first one you might be thinking of is probably Nick Arcade (http://www.nick.com/all_nick/gas/watch/show_info/shows_nickarcade.jhtml) (??).
I think I remember seeing one episode of Gamepro TV (don’t know if that was the actual name). I can recall it having the whole “rad gamer dude” vibe to it (thank God that era is over with), and there was a semi-recognizable red head actor hosting it (I’m no good with names  ). I don’t remember the shopping spree thing though. Maybe I am thinking of something else.

I remember the Legends of the Hidden Temple and I remember the host of that show use to be in other game shows aswell. LOL Was my description of Nick Arcade off a bit? :o I remember Captain N, where Megaman sound like he had a frog in his throat and was a midget. And for some reason Simon Belmount (I think that is how his name is spelled) was always concern about his lookz. The other Megaman show rocked, you know with the theme "Super fighting robot. MEGAMAN!!" LOL I also remember seeing a Super Mario/Link cartoon in the 80's.

I used to watch "Video Power" (http://www.bluespheer.com/host/poprocksandcoke/12.php) way back in the day. It was on some channel from Chicago every day after school.

Coincedentally, I brought up Nickelodeon Arcade in a thread in off topic about TV game shows (click here (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35348) if you want to check it out). I'm going to quote what I said there because otherwise I'd end up repeating myself anyways. :P
Nickelodeon Arcade - I was at a friend's house one time and he was flipping channels and this was on the Nickelodeon Games & Sports channel. We watched two episodes. I hadn't watched this for years and I had forgotten how tacky it was... especially since hardly anything had to do with video games, except for the video challenge and the final round where the winning team got to play in what looked like it would be one hell of a shitty game. But none of that tackiness beat the little rap the host would do. Ack.
However, they had some good games in the video challenge. The two shows we watched had Actraiser and Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, and I would boo when some idiot kid picked something else. I also remember seeing Gradius III on the show many years back.
Another thing is that the top prize in Nick Arcade wasn't always a system. They had some bizarre stuff sometimes. In one of the shows I watched recently, the top prize was a stereo that played digital audio (DAT) tapes. :eek 2: I think that was pretty dumb. The top prize should have always been video game related.
Legends Of The Hidden Temple was alright. Watched quite a bit of it back in the day.
Not to bring this off topic, but imo neither of those shows matched up to Salute Your Shorts. :D

I used to watch "Video Power" before going to school.
"Nick Arcade" i stumbled upon again recently on NICK GAS. None of the episodes really stood out except for this one that proves that nerds will conqure all.
Some sports playing guy who looked stoned and overly smug & some girl on one team while the other team had another girl and then some guy who's hobby was "video games". Near the end of round two the team with the smug stoner had a whopping 60 points while the team with the gamer dude (who answered all the questions) had like 425 points.
Its too bad his team mate couldnt play with a crap or they would have won.

I remember watching a Super Mario Bros 3 show, Super Mario World show, Nick Arcade, Legends of the Hidden Temple and the Megaman cartoon. Sometimes for no reason I just start singing the Megaman show theme. FIGHTING TO SAVE THE ... WORLD!!!

Yeah, I used to watch that Gamepro show also -- what WAS the name of the show? If I recall how it worked correctly, three kids got picked randomly out of the auidence, and they would play a time challenge on a game -- all popular NES stuff. The goal was to score as many points as possible. Whoever won then got a minute or so to run around a huge room with TONS of video game stuff in it. Whatever they could hold in their hands and run past the finish spot before time ran out, they kept. I recall thinking that looked SO cool -- heck, I'd still like to do that today. :) Never done a shopping spree before. :)
I don't know when the show ran exactly, but I recall clearly watching it while laid up recovering from wisdom teeth surgery in Feb of 1992. I also believe it was syndicated.
Besides that, I also watched Captain N, the Mario cartoons, and Zelda.

It was, quite simply, Gamepro TV. J.D. Roth was the host... you may also recognize him from a short-lived kids' reality show on Fox (just one year before Fox rolled out the FoxBox programming block) and an early morning game show on Animal Planet. There was some other guy on the show, too, but I can't recall his name. He looked and acted like a lost member of Wyld Stallions... I'm sure to this day, Bill S. Preston Esq. and Theodore Logan are still wondering where we went.
As for Video Power...

I like to drag that link out whenever that show is mentioned. It's an article by Mickey Tveter, a man who actually COMPETED on the series in his younger days. Members of the Retrogaming Roundtable have taken issue with this feature in the past, but I personally think it's one of my site's all-time greatest articles.

Oh and I used to love the old mario shows and megaman ones. And sonic was the greatest. Back in 5th-7th grade, they played donkey kong country, sonic the hedgehog and megaman starting at 5:30 am untill 7 and I would usually watch it before school.

It's still on?? Wow, I would have thought that YTV would have gotten rid of it a long time ago. Is it actually new episodes, or repeats?

Both Nick Arcade and Legends of the Hidden Temple are on Nickelodeon GAS. Arcade is on at like 4 am and Legends is on several times a day. They even have Double Dare on there.

I don't have Nickelodeon GAS :( . Anyways, there were two Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons. A funny version and a serious version. I liked the funny one better. And SoulBlazer, I think that is the same show I was talking about in my first post on this thread. Nick Arcade use to look so cool when I was young. :o Maybe I was the only one. My brother recalls seeing a Donkey Kong and Q*Bert cartoon, but I don't. They use to show Megaman on ABC Family, but they cut the intro (which was really cool. Megaman is fighting against Fireman, Electman, and Protoman. Did he fought against other robots?). They also stop airing it (I believe). Anyways, I think Cartoon Network should take off one of those shows that getz shown like 3 times a day and put a Mario or Megaman cartoon, heck I'll go for Captain N. I downloaded 6 Super Mario Brothers 3 episodes and one Super Mario world episode, so I can watch it again :D. I remember seeing Wario for the first time with those real actors that played Mario and Luigi on a Super Mario show. "IT'S THE SUPER MARIO SHOW!!!!" (song plays) Wario on that show didn't even have anything similar to the Wario we all know.

yeah I loved the sonic shows. I have 4 of the vhs's of the funnier show. I liked the serious one better though, theme song was way better, more charactors, and tails's voice sounded way cooler in the serious one. That use to be my favorite show, watched the serious one every school day from 4th-6th grade and the funnier one on the weekends in like 4th-5th grade. I always bought the comics too. Started in 4th grade but stopped after it became too serious in early 6th grade (issue 73...blah!). I got like 110 different ones now though... including the sega promotion and issue 1...nerd....I am... :D

I don't remember the name of the show, but it was in 1990. The "turbo-dork" host went by the name of "Johnny Arcade." If I remember correctly, he also had a huge "unibrow."
Does anyone remember the name of this show?

Yes, there were indeed Q-bert and Donkey Kong cartoons. My brother, god love him, can still sing the entire Q-bert opening theme from memory. Those two were shown in a programming block with two other video game cartoons that weren't mentioned yet. Frogger and Pit Fall.
