View Full Version : A beaten to death (I'm sure) question about my old INTV.

Forgive me for what is obviously a question only an unedumacated Newbie would ask, but I am one of those creatures. X_x
O.K., so I have my old Intellivision system, and a bunch of games. I have a Hitachi 57" widescreen TV and a multitude of other new sets. All of these have butt loads of connections on the back, but no way for the archaic connectors of the early 80's. What do I need to adapt these critters together. I bought something that looked like it might work from Radio Shack, but I think I am out of luck.
I know it can be done, as I see everybody here has every game console ever produced, and I can't imagine you have the systems and games, but never play them.
So, can you help ouot my feeble mind? :) :D

Greets, Zombie! Welcome aboard the mighty DP forums!
On to your question, you're in luck! You should be able to pick up the device you seek for about a buck.
It's a male F-coax to female RCA converter, looks something like this one:

And can be had in brick and mortar stores like Radio Shack, or one of about a bazillion online retailers. The link the image (above) is from is right here:

Anyhoo, the converter screws into the coaxial input on your TV (or VCR or other device - depends on how you've got things situated) and then the INTV plugs right into the converter. Viola! :) Game ON!

If you can't find that F adaptor, you should at least be able to find an old RF switch. Radio Shack still sells them for a couple of bucks each. It's a big silver box with a black switch, and most modern switches probably have both coaxial output (same as that F converter uses) as well as the (now ancient) 300 ohm twin-lead screw-on jacks, which your TV almost certainly doesn't have.

Thank ya, thank ya, thank ya!!! See, I knew I could count on this place. Just browsing around this site in general leads me to believe you know a little bit about games and such! :D
Seriously though, if I get this puppy running, it could start to hurt my bank account by trying to get all of those games I never got way beck when. But hey, I bet none of you know anything about the expense in buying games and having hobbies that control your lives, do you? LOL
My wife is going to kill me. And possibly you two for giving me answers. ;)
Thanks again, o' mighty ones!

Nah, we're just the messengers. We get that special "messenger immunity" in these situations. :)
You're most welcome! Keep us posted on your progress with getting the Intellivision going again. And if you've got a list of the games you have right now, I'm sure there are plenty of folks here who could help you fill in the gaps in the INTV library. Game ON!

Actually, I am an OLDIE with the Intellivision. The unit is mine from when I was a kid, and it was bought when they first came out. I some how have been able to keep it all these years, and in almost perfect condition. I only have fear of it not working due to age, not from neglect.
The games I do have now, off the top of my head:
Skiing
Baseball
Triple Action
Beauty And the Beast
Nightstalker
Astrosmash
Space Armada
...drawing blank...
...still drawing that dang blank...
...about to give up...
Yup, gotta admit defeat! I will check again tonight.

I'd rank Thunder Castle high on my list of all-time favorites. Never played it on a stock INTV, though.
