View Full Version : Get all your games Ultra Cheap at Blockbuster: Here's how.

Ok, in order to take advantage of these sales you need:
1) A Gamestop, EB, or some other such chain that will have plenty of crappy PS1 sports titles
2) A Gamerush Blockbuster, and
3) No conscience, or very little. Like me.
Ok, so I work at a Blockbuster Gamerush and we're trying our damndest to get people in the door to realize we give way more credit than anyone else, and we do ($35 on newest games). So what does blockbuster do? They don't think about the promo's they offer, and hook everyone up with a whole shitload of cheap games.
Promo 1:
Trade in any title, get $10 off any brand new game $39.99 and up. Not that great of a deal, but head over to Gamestop and grab a 50cent sports title that we'll pay $1.50 for, there you go, 50 cents got you $11.50 off any brand new game.
Promo 2:
This is where it gets sick.
Trade in any two titles and get any previewed game for $9.99. ANY previewed game. Hitman Contracts. Red Dead Revolver. Whatever they've got in stock. Head to Gamestop, pickup any number of sports titles in denominations of two (only two of same title will be accepted), and head over there for massive savings.
Had a guy come in with 10 PS1 sports shit titles. Madden 97, 98, 99, NCAA Gamebreaker, that kind of crap. He walked out with: Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Rainbow Six 3(ps2), Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm(ps2), Resident Evil: Outbreak, and some other $40 title. That's $200 in previewed games, all were $40. After all the credit and the promos, he paid: $38 for all 5 games. Then he can take that $38 he just spent, and take it to another gamerush and trade them all in for upwards of $120 in credit. Or he can keep all 5 and have only paid $38 + whatever the 10 shit titles cost him at gamestop. Or put them on ebay. Or take them to EB and get cash.
So, take advantage folks. The more it happens the quicker they'll shut down the deal and the faster I stop getting shitloads of shitty ps1 titles filling up my trade bin. The offer is good for trade ins on PS2, PS1, Xbox, GC, and GBA. So I know all of you have 800 copies of shitty genesis sports titles, they won't work ;)

Crap, totally forgot the moneyshot.
Promo 3:
Trade in any 3 games, get any previewd game for $4.99.
So lets do the math. You pay $2 at gamestop for 3 games, trade them in for $1.50 each, and pay 50 cents for any previewed game. Good lord, blockbuster is retarded.
Disclaimer about this one though, it might not be actually that way. Our email said what I just said, but all our promo stuff says "trade 3, get one for $9.99 or less" Make sure to ask the guy (or girl) there what the actual deal is, because I'm not completely sure right now either.

I'm going to assume this only applies at the Gamerush stores, and not the actual Blockbuster store? That sucks because there's not a Gamerush near me, but there's a Blockbuster on every corner... :(

It's their stupidity, so I wouldn't feel bad about doing it, if they had a BB Gamerush here, which they don't. Damnit.

F that, bad karma. You guys would all be crying about getting ripped off in some online trade "due to your own stupidity," don't pass the rip off onto someone else. If you really want your store to change its policy send your regional manager or someone a professional looking letter/fax/email with the breakdown you just provided.

Not anymore, their splitting. Hopefully it'll change some shit, but it probably wont.
And nork, head into the Gamerush before you buy a bunch of crappy titles and get stuck with them. I was in one the other day and PS1 wasn't listed in the deal, but I don't know if they would still take it. Just go in and ask if they've got whatever deal going on with PS1 tradeins.
To scoots, I'm not concerned about it, I just need more space to store our 47 copies of Madden 99 for PS1. Blockbuster has fucked me over the years, and when i move all over the place and can convinently transfer to a job I already know how to do, I'm going to continue doing it until I graduate. Holding a job for 4 months at a time isn't a very easy thing to do, so I just transfer. I did it myself last night and have never felt better, check the weekday finds thread ;)

Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing. I decided I'm just gonna take a bunch of cheap crap out of my personal collection and see what I can get for them. Here is what I'm bringing in:
PS1:
Madden '97
WWF War Zone (x2)
Broken Helix
Parappa The Rapper (what the hell...it's doesn't have a manual and has been sitting in my trade pile for years)
DC:
NFL 2k1
PS2:
NBA Live 2003
Madden 2003 (you can't still go online with these, can you?)
GC:
Dave Mira 2
Xbox:
Sega GT/ Jet Set Radio Future
I'm going right now to see what I can get for these. I'll let you guys know...
hezeuschrist
05-26-2004, 07:10 PM
NBA Live 03 and Madden 03 will probably net you $7 or $8 a piece.
And I figured plenty of you guys would have tons of crap just laying around you could finally get rid of for some nice stuff, rather than buying a bunch of junk at gamestop ;)

05-26-2004, 07:17 PM
And once again, I forgot another deal. Buy any preowned game, get any other preowend game half off. Nothing super special, but it's nice to use your credit on if you've got any.

What a deal! I just traded in all that crap I listed above for $20 (except the Xbox game. They wouldn't take it because it was a Not For Resale item). Got the following:
Xbox:
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
PS2:
Resident Evil Outbreak
Socom II
...and all I had to pay was $1.17! Thanks again for the great tip HC! I was kind of bummed that they didn't have Fight Night for PS2, but I'm going to hit the other Gamerush stores up tomorrow to see what I can find.

Bad example IMO. You're compairing getting shafted on a trade board or on Ebay to shafting a multi-billion dollar company. Besides, most trading lies and frauds that happen online are sometimes fraud. This thing with Gamerush is just taking advanage of what a bunch of millionaires democraticly decided was a good idea. I don't see the comparison at all.

I had problems at the other Gamerush store I went to though and was forced to get The Suffering for $1 because the fuckwad clerk wouldn't give me my games back after I told him I didn't see anything I wanted. :fist:

You guys are right. It's a victimless crime, like punching someone in the dark.
Forgive me, but I fail to see anything wrong with this.
When you go to EB, you are buying their games, which is what they want. You aren't stealing from them, you are buying them. Full price (unless you have a card). If EB didn't want to sell games for a low price, they simply wouldn't.
When you got the Blockbuster, you are trading your games. You aren't stealing anything from there either. If Blockbuster didn't wan't your games, they wouldn't even take them in, let alone offer a killer promotion on them.
Are we to blame if Blockbuster values the games more than EB? Why is it our fault if Blockbuster was so shortsighted to not post exclusions?
Anyway....
I traded away a bunch of crappy ps1 games I had lying around today.
I walked out the door with Bubble Bobble and Chrono Trigger, with only $2.48 less in my bank account 8-)

Some stores are already changing the terms of the offer.
Store #1 - Only took PS2, GC, GBA and Xbox games. I asked why? Their first response was that Blockbuster changed it nationally. I called them on it. They then said they were losing money by taking the older games.
Store #2 - Still taking all games except PS1. When asked, they stated they met their quota on PS1 games and couldn't take any more.
So, make sure you call first before you go buy a bunch of $1.99 PS1 games at Gamestop, like me :( .

Believe me, I would LOVE nothing more then being able to trade in some of my old PS1 games and get more then a couple bucks for them. But there's just too many of them, and the companies lose their shirts.

On Wednesday I grabbed up a handful of crappy games (mostly PS1) that I had lying around, and went to the Gamerush (the one on Rochester between Hamlin and Auburn. you work at this one hezueschrist?). I didn't really plan ahead or anything, but I did the trade in 2 games, get 1 for 9.99 thing. I did that like 6 times or something. For only $50 out of pocket, I managed to get 6 pretty expensive games. Looking back on it though, I probably should have done the trade 3 games, get 1 for $4.99 thing though. My store credit would have paid for everything basically.
Anywho, I kept 1 game, and took the rest to an EB games. Got $100 or so in store credit (they also had a cool trade-in thing going on). Got a used Xbox for $120 or something. Only paid a few bucks out of pocket. Pretty cool deal.
The next day (Thursday), I go to the same Blockbuster, with more crappy games in hand. I asked to make sure if the rules had changed, and the douche at the counter claimed they had. I asked specifically if PS1 games were still accpted, and he acted like they never were. No big deal. I already had abused their trade-in thing to get an Xbox for like $60 total. It just sucks that random employees decide to make their own rules.
Saturday I was going to the flea market anyway, so I brought along the same bag of shitty games with me just in case another Gamerush still had the right rules for the sale. The one on Walton in Pontiac did. Traded games in, got better stuff. Went to EB, got quick cash, bought more bad PS1 games, went back, traded those in, got better games, went back to EB, got cash. Walked away with $60 cash, $50 EB store credit, and Mario Golf for GC. Pretty cool for doing no real work.
I had fun with that sale. Not as much fun as the Office Depot sale from '03, but still fun paying low low prices for practically brand new games.

While small-scale, my Gamerush score on Friday night was great. Three PS1 games that were just sitting around (I think I paid about $5 total for them originally) got me Raystorm (PS1) and Rez (PS2) for $5.34. I was about to pick up Mega Man X7 when I saw Rez. An easy choice was made.
