I would have to say Need For Speed: Underground.

I must admit that I haven't had the chance to check out everythng out there, but damn, Need For Speed: Underground has some absolutely incredible graphics.

Especially on a HDTV monitor in progressive scan.

The amount of color and detail that is bursting off the screen during that game is pretty freaking amazing. I've never seen a city look so real. If only there was a Grand Theft Auto game that had graphics that looks this damn good during the driving sequences.

I second Panzer, but I like Voodoo Vince a little bit better.

Orta, Halo, and Ninja Gaiden are all very impressive.

I think the effects, and the level of polish on a LOT of Gamecube games though is nothing to shake a stick at.

Panzer Dragoon Orta, But if Xbox is really such a powerful machine then it deffinately hasnt been pushed to its limits... GCN games like Metroid Prime, Rogue Squadron II and III: Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike are equally impressive to Xbox's current best. And I loved the Style in Voodoo Vince.

Ninja Gaiden gets the top spot from me. Panzer Dragoon Orta also looks great, and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow is stunning as well.

NFSU looks good, but I don't think it really pushes the system's capabilities. It's only a smidgen better than the PS2 version, progressive scan gives it the boost.

Progressive scan must be giving it one helluva boost then, because it looks freaking ridiculous to me.

I'm not saying that the "actual" game is all that great, but the graphics make Project Gotham 1 and 2 it's bee-itch!

Jaw droppingly gorgeous is the first 3 words that popped into my head when I first played it on my big HDTV.

I haven't played Orta yet, or Vodoo Vince. So I'll have to check those babies out soon.

As for Halo, sure the game is an incredible game, but I think that graphically it has been surpassed a number of times.

I have to agree on Panzer Dragoon Orta being the nicest looking Xbox game. It is also one of the best and i've played a vast majority of Xbox games! Orta not only has awesome graphics on a tech level, it runs at a constant 60FPS, has a lot of different effects, and loads of polys, etc., but it also has fantastic art direction. That shouldn't be a shock to long time Panzer fans, all of the games have been stunning visually on many levels for their time! Oh yeah, as for the top GC titles being just as good (visually) as the top Xbox titles, I disagree. THey are comparable, but I think Xboxs best are currently better then the GCs. I'm talking strictly visuals.

Well NFS:U has amazing, brilliant graphics( So good when I play it, this is what I look like: :eek 2: ). But since it is on multiple-systems, I can't say it's best on the 'box.

The winner is...VooDoo Vince. I really loved the style of this game, from the graphics to the music to the level design, I simply love this game. PD Orta is pretty great also, I just haven't played much of it.

I believe the order of good graphics for consoles is X-box, Gamecube, than PS2. I heard that the Gamecube does have a better video card..graphic card...(whatever it is called) than PS2, and I know X-box has better graphics than the two. I wanted to get Need for Speed Underground for the Gamecube, but it is not "online compatible" (or so I think), I have to get it for PS2. Is the X-box version online compatible?

I don't even know what qualifies as "good graphics" anymore these days.. is it more polygons, is it more REALISM, is it more colors, is it more detail, or has it come to a point where it's more art and unique graphic style.. fuck I don't know. We're just about at a point where almost anything can be done graphic wise (although we're definitely not 100% "there" yet but we're getting pretty darn close). So, the only limitation to what can be displayed is the imagination of the creators.

So what's 'best' on Xbox? Maybe it's just me but almost all it's games have this almost numbing sameness in their graphics. I mean they are great graphics for sure.. but after a while, the majority of 3D worlds from Halo to Ninja Gaiden to Panzer Dragoon start to look a little homogenous. Having said that, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that the way NFS:U looked pretty much blew me away when I first saw and played it :hmm: very nice and pretty game to look at indeed :) I really dug that wet streets look. Let's just leave it at that maybe :D

For me, I would have to say that it's the "realism" and the "detail". At this point, in terms of hardware technology, every game should have plenty of polygons and plenty of colors. But it's the realism and detail that stand out. At least for me it is, anyways. I think that we are getting to the point where "art" and a "unique graphic style" will become more and more of a differential factor.

I agree that alot of the 3D worlds do look the same, and have somewhat of a generic-ness to them. Especially all the First Person Shooters and Racing games that have flooded the XBOX and the PS2 as well.

But I do feel that NFS: Undergound is somewhat special, just in terms of it's realism and detail, in the city that you are driving around in. There has always been a goal of creating a real, living city, to drive through, and while NFS: U doesn't provide the living part, it does provide the "real" part. From a standpoint that a screenshot of the game could pass for a real photograph of a real city at night. You don't have people walking around and stuff like that, to make it truly "living", but damn, did they nail the city at night graphics. Again, this may have much more to do with the fact that I'm playing the XBOX version in progressive scan on a large HDTV. So far, this game is easily the most impressive thing that I could demo somebody that came by my house to check out the XBOX, and to check out what it's like to play progressive scan games on a HDTV. On a side note, the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is really good too.

Going back to the driving around in a city thing, ever since Road Rash on the 3DO, developers have been trying to give you that feel of driving around in a real city. When Midtown Madness on the PC first showed up, that was also a major step in that direction. Games like Vice City and True Crime are probably better at demonstrating a "living and breathing" city then NFS:U, but NFS:U has the detail and realisim in spades.

It will be very interesting to see a game combine both aspects, along with a great behind the character perspective when you get out of the car.
