Is it just me, or are there too many damn new games constantly coming out for the PS2, and to a lesser extent XBOX and GameCube?

I know that this topic has been covered in other threads, but I just wanted to get a seperate take out on it.

I really don't care much for modern games, and I don't really follow them that much, so take my viewpoint with a grain of salt, but whenever I go into a games store, or a Best Buy or whatever, I just see a Sea of game releases for all the platforms.

Alot of these games look like total crap and total rush jobs as well. Even though I don't follow the new games, I see the advertisements in the newspapers, and it shocks me to see so many games selling for so cheap.

I'm always seeing games selling for $9.99 at Fry's Electronics. And these are games that not too long ago, were originally selling for $49.99 or $39.99.

It seems that there are just too many damn games, and the result of this, is that prices are rapidly going downward. I don't think this is good for the industry. Right now, it seems that the only people that are going to make any money are the Mega Publishers, with the huge hit games that are marketed to the tilt.

But then again, even some of these huge "supposedly" hit games are being sold for super cheap not too long after their original release. I'm pretty sure I saw the newest Lord of the Rings game selling for $9.99. I have to assume that this game didn't really sell that well, for it to be selling now for only $9.99, but I have to imagine that E.A. spent a God Awful amount of cache to license and make that game.

I don't think so... more like swimming for me. Sure, there's a lot of crap... but there's always been a lot of crap. Look at how many lousy games came out for every system that has a sizable library.

I dig the current game scene. Lots of options, lots of good games, and a lot of those are for a pretty cheap price.

Since when is a large option of games a bad thing? I love walking into my local Ebgames and seeing games I have never even read a preview for.

there really has always been alot of crap released for systems with big libraries--so at the same time i dont know why some publishers have to wait to release their games. Really im just mad that AIA wont get rent a hero to the US.

Drowning, ooh, gurgle gurgle!

Not really, it's the game companies that need to be worried, not me. All I care about is that there'll be good games years from now, that's all, really.

Because the thought of releasing another Enter the Matrix gives them nightmares?

This I can agree with - though, outside of the DC game, I didn't know it was going to happen...

Yes this has been brought up alot in prior discussions, but in my opinion it really can't be done enough.
Yes, you can look at it like more games, more choices, and if you think about it it is the game company's LOSS if the hundreds of games they put dont all make money. (As someone else said in their prior post in this topic)

BUT, one thing that does hurt is when the shitload of games that are put out flood the shelves, and the GREAT games get overlooked!

I still have to get games that had been released last year. So I've been drowning for a long time on game releases. LOL

Through the AAA titles there are alot of little-known jems through the sea of copycat games. Shame most them get little to no exposure.
