View Full Version : Do you own a "Game Copier Device" for any of your

Right now I have a Flash 2 Advance cart for the GBA, that I guess could be considered a Game Copier Device, I also have a modded XBOX with a huge hard drive that I can copy games to if I like, so I guess that could also be considered a Game Copier Device, but I don't have any of the "usual" game copiers that people think of.

Like the ones for the Genesis and Super Nintendo and stuff like that.

I have thought about getting one, and I was curious as to what people on this forum had, and how they like them.

I guess the main advantage of having a "Game Copier Device" is that you could play all the roms that are on your PC, but instead of playing them on the PC, you can play them on the actual console.

This would be a huge advantage for me. Although playing the roms on the computer or a modded XBOX is a very cool thing, there is no substitute for playing them on the Real McCoy. Especially when you consider the RGB factor. I prefer to play my video games in native RGB when and if possible. So if it's a TurboGrafx-16, Genesis, Super Nintendo, Sega CD, 32X, Atari Jaguar, Saturn, PSX or Nintendo 64 game, I prefer to play the game in RGB.

You can't do that on the computer. Sure there are some nice video modes with the different emulators, but nothing compares to the real native RGB signal. At least to me, nothing compares. And that is the big difference. You can get the actual controllers modded for usb to use on the PC with the emulators. So the only real difference is the fact that you can't get the true RGB display.

So if I had a Game Copier, I could play the real game, on the real system in RGB.

I'm not a collector, so buying every game under the sun just isn't a logical idea for me. I started off trying to do exactly just that, but I quickly went into some serious debt. So about 3 grand later, I've decided the hell with buying all these old school games. I'm cool with just playing the roms. But I would prefer to play the roms on the real machine.

By the way, this isn't a debate on whether copiers are moral or immoral. Or whether you are a criminal or not if you use copiers. If you don't have a copier, and you feel that they are immoral, then leave your thoughts to yourself. I don't want this thread to turn into a name calling thing, with people saying, "Gee, maybe you should just try buying your games, and then you can play them in RGB on the actual system without stealing them". Please just stick to the topic. Do you have a game copier and what type do you have, do you like it, do you use it alot, etc, etc.

I've got three myself, All for the MegaDrive/Genesis consoles. I went through a period of trying to get a hold of them as, well, they're part of the history and something you don't usually see. Bloddy difficult to get a hold of though.

The three I've got (and, no, they're not for sale :P ) are the Mega Disc Interceptor and the Super Magic Drive and Magic Drive Pro. I keep a UK MD and the Magic Drive Pro (alongside a 32x, CD MK1 and MD MK1 setup as well, pics at the bottom) set up permanently and use it now and then. All are able to handle 99% of the MD releases including the higher RAM carts that were relased near the end of the MDs life.

I tend to use it for the "higher cost" games that I'm after but not willing to pay eBay prices for (UK version of SoR3 on eBay never mind the Japanese version for one) and to try out some of the ones I'm a little will I/won't I on getting. If I have the orignal I tend to use that though. The only thing I've (sadly) not been able to get to work for whatever reason are the ROM hacks. I'd love to be able to play some of those Sonic2 conversions on the telly with the proper pad but I just can't get them to work outside of the emus.

I had the copier for SNES years ago. Just stuck in the cartridge and it copied them to floppy, I used to rent SNES games and backup everyone. I ended up selling it and all the copies for just slightly more than what I originally paid (I had gotten heavily into Amiga computers) and I reluctantly sold it to my uncle who pissed me off! I did NOT want to sell to family or friends but he begged and begged so I gave in and of course he was sooooo happy. Unfortunately on a HOT summer day while going up north he decided to pack it in the truck of a car and low and behold when he arrived at his destination it no longer worked, completely fried out. Of course he calls me up complaining and I remind him I never wanted to sell to him, he begged me. Needless to say my uncle is not to bright and I never do bussiness with family if it can be helped! Note: this is the same uncle who called me up yelling "What did you do to my VCR? It won't record" after I had borrowed it, turns out he pulled the little tab off the VHS tape so it couldn't be recorded on....my wife can't believe we are related............... x_x

I'd love to try and see if a certain re-translated FF4 rom would work on a proper SNES. You know, the one where Rydia becomes Terra from FF6, Cyrus becomes Celes from FF6, and Kain turns into a woman himself. Then the love triangle in the game is with three women. Ahhh, obsession! Playing that on a real SNES would be a joy :D

i do own a Super Wild Card 24Mbit PAL for my SNES, but the rpg translations don't work as they are >=32Mbit :( that's why i'd love to have a Super Wild Card DX2 64Mbit, but 250 bucks is too much for me...

I have a Flash Ram Cart for my Sega Genesis, a UFO and a Super Wild Card DX ( :) ) for my SNES, and a Z64 for my N64. They are fun and I try to pick these up whenever I find them to preserve them since they are getting harder to find.

All of mine will be on display at OKGE, if anyone wants to come check them out first hand! :)
