Has anybody tried using a 40+ GB Non Sony IDE HD in their ps2?
Oh yeah, HD Loader is pretty cool too! 8-)

According to pre-release news, Seagate was the main supplier of hard drives for the PS2...Sony doesn't actually make drives themselves. Not sure about the PS2's HD, but Seagate drives are usually considered pretty darn good.

This is definitely cheaper than buying the hard drive bundled with FFXI. :D

Did I miss how much HD Loader costs? I didn't see that on their page.
That would make all those PS2's with drive problems a lot more valuable all of a sudden ...

Seagate defentily is one of the best HD makers out there. I use two of their Barracuda drives in my computer and swear by then.
If Sony DID ask Seagate to make HD's for the PS2, that was a VERY smart move on Sony's part. :D

divineo.net $30
My hope is that this would be a good way to play imports without having to add a mod chip to my ps2. Plus you can get a 40 gig hd fo $50 and 4X that size for the same price as the official sony hd.
As for playing imports you'd still need some kind of territory bypass so I don't know how realistic the HD Loader is for that purpose but I'm sure we'll see reviews shortly as this thing is scheduled for an early June release.

My thoughts too.
Considering they skirt the whole "will this play backups" question, I think the HDLoader disc is much like a boot disc and goes around the region check. Just a hunch, but that's who I read it.
Also, if you check the "Compatability" page, first game, Biohazard Outbreak. Biohazard = Japanese RE. Hmm...

"Final Fantasy XI is only available bundled with the new hard drive for the PlayStation 2; together, they sell for $99.99. To date, it is also the only game that uses the 40GB drive, although the upcoming Resident Evil: Outbreak and Syphon Filter: the Omega Strain also plan on using the device. SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs will also support the drive with downloadable content." - GameSpot.
