Phelios

For those of you that remember me, (how's it going captain wrong? Hey Yashiro), I have returned... and I see there's a shiny new SHMUPS forum where there was none before.

So, what's everyone think of one of my favorite underrated shmups of all time, Phelios (either the Genesis or arcade version)? I've been playing it a lot lately (when I'm not playing Ikaruga and Contra: SS), and it's really grown on me, even more so than it had before.

Namco clearly knew how to make a good shooter. It's a pity that they stopped doing so, even though they might have created more shumps that featured uncomfortable reworkings of Greek myths.

Hey, wasn't Artemis supposed to be some virgin hunter-goddess who would turn you into a stag and release the hounds if you so much as looked as her cross-eyed? It seems quite a stretch to turn her into a helpless blond torture target.

Phelios, yeah. Good game. Fenris is right. Namco could make a good shmup. They could have been a real elite shmup maker if they'd stuck with it.

Fenris - I'm glad to see that someone does in fact read my articles. :) I had to put that up on the site after playing as much Phelios as I have recently, and knowing what I know about the actual myths...

cw - I'm still around, just been busy in RL a lot lately. I'll pop back in from time to time. Personally, I would have loved to see Namco make more shmups, but it seems they stopped after Xevious 3D/G (at least, that's the last shmup they did that I remember).

I love phelios...great music too....My favorite music I think second stage where the game speeds up and your flying in the sky outside the castle....awesome shooter by Namco.

That's one of my favorite stages as well. I need to play it again soon... got on a RayStorm kick there for a bit.

Phelios Rocks.

I rememeber I beat that gfame in 2 day on its hardest mode when it came out. Weird thing is, all my freiends thought the game was too hard and copuld barely make to even stage 4. Yep, I's bad.

Ok, enough bragging.

And Yeah, phelios is yet another buthered myth game. Lets add it to the list:

Battle of Olympus
Kid Icarus
Phelios

And ummm, that's all I can think of right now.
