This is what is known as an "elevator". It can be used to transport within "buildings", between the "floors". It is not the fastest portal, but can be most reliable if the "Soul Wire" doesn't break. This is the wire that can move the "Golden Portal" between the "floors". "Buildings" also use "stairs", which require bipedal users to "climb". Google the word "stairs" for a more in-depth manual on the usage of "stairs".
