Is there no Wipeout 2? The guide has no mention of it. Only a Non-US 2097.

Also, was 2097 released here in some form?

Also, are there other Wipeout games out there not on that list aside from Fusion for the PS2? (Which I picked up yesterday for $7.99.)

Because if there aren't any more. I just need Wipeout 64 and the Saturn version to have all the US releases.

He's right, Wipeout XL is the sequel to the original.

It's also the best in the series, IMHO. If you weren't paying attention to the Wipeout series when it was at its peak (really just after XL was released), this is a good time to catch up!

wipeout 3 was OK at best I just couldnt get into it like XL
but Wipeout Fusion is a great next gen sequal to XL even though it wasnt developed by sygnosis (or was it) I know it was published by BAM! says so on the cover ;)

I believe Fusion was developed by Sony of Europe, which absorbed Psygnosis at some point.

So, is Wipeout 64 a port of another Wipeout game or a totally new game?

Wipeout 64 is a totally new game. IIRC it is the first Wipeout with "super weapons". It has different music as well, although it plays in mono it is an excellent soundtrack (without exception all the Wipeout games have great music and sound).

EDIT: re: super weapons...I will have to play this and Wipeout 3 tomorrow...heck I might as well play all of them...here's how I remember it:

Wipeout + XL - no super weapons
Wipeout 64 - one super weapon - a machine gun that fires continuously for about 20 seconds (unlike regular weapons that you can only use once, or you have limited ammo)
Wipeout 3 - several super weapons
Fusion - has the same super weapons as 3 but they are no longer called that

There is also Wipeout 3: Special Edition. It has brand new art from the Designers Republic as well as 3 new tracks & many (if not all) of the tracks from Wipeout XL!

It's really amazing. Only available in PAL format, and I have never seen it on eBay. I did aquire a copy, but modifying the image to play on an NTSC PSone works, but, by no means does it to it justice.

Wipeout Fusion is a decent effort on the part of its developer STUDIO LEEDS, but it has more in common with Star Wars Pod Racer and F-Zero than it does with the previous W1P30UT games. But it is what the title states, a Fusion of things wipeout with other similar racers.

Wipeout XL (aka 2097) had me hooked the most, I did everything possible in that game. But I really like Wipeout 3 the best due to the simplified DR design and the fact that the soundtrack is compiled and mixed by Sasha (a god of sorts in the world of electronic music).

My icon is the DR angryman, you'll see him in the intro to Wipeout XL.

Wipeout was the best of the first wave of Playstation games. It really was the one that hooked me the most. Heck, I think I even liked the Saturn version a little more, if only because the ships didn't screech to a halt when you hit the guard rails.

Wipeout XL was the best, by far. Great tracks, supercool music, everything was just killer. I've never seen the Saturn version (Giri Giri will hopefully change that), but it's supposed to be nearly as good.

So was Fusion any good? It kinda came and went without any buzz, so I'm thinking it wasn't anything special, like, say, the F-Zero sequels.

Another question... "Wipeout 0"? What's the deal with the "0" on the spine of my copy of "Wipeout"? It's not a Long Box version. Just a non-GH version of Wipeout in a jewel case.

Also, how many of these went on to be GH?
