Fantastic news, everybody. Sega Ages is finally coming to the United States, here is the scoop:

Conspiracy Entertainment announced they will release the Sega Ages titles in the US under two separate compilations, instead of releasing each title individually. Sega Ages: Classic Collection will ship in winter 2004, and Sega Ages: Phantasy Star Trilogy will ship in early 2005.

-Sega Ages: Classic Collection - Fantasy Zone, Golden Axe, Monaco GP and Space Harrier

-Sega Ages: Phantasy Star Trilogy - Phantasy Star Generation 1, Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Star IV: End of the Millennium

I am super super super excited, I so can't wait :D :D :D :rocker:

I just got #13, the OutRun one.

All of them so far have been fun a couple of times and none of them get a lot of replay value in my house (YMMV).

BOOYAH!! I'm especially stoked about the Phantasy Star and Golden Axe remakes. I'll die happy if Alex Kidd were to undergo a redux... :D

I am happy about this development as well. Ive heard on all accounts that the graphics arent too great though which is ashame. Isn't that the whole point of the series? To upgrade the graphics. I still will pick up the collection with Golden Axe. I wonder how much it will all cost. I am guessing $40 per disc. I am hoping $30. I will hold off if it's$50.

I've got all the imports up to 11. Didn't know OutRun was out... what was number 12?!

digitalpress

Oops nevermind. Number 12 is Puyo Puyo. Just added those two to my shoppin' list :)

I like the series a lot. The little upgrades they add make the games worth checking out, even if they're not worth $30 each. I figure by having the whole set they'll be worth more someday. Plus I'm just a Segaholic.

Come on. SOMEONE needs to give us that smart conversion of Virtua Racing. I may have to get a Japanese PS2.

Hmm, but what about Alex Kidd and Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken)?

I have fist of the north star and it's awesome. For some reason the original is included, but crashes my PS2...dunno why.

AWSOME NEWS!

Let's just hope the Phantasy Star collection comes out -- I still have nightmares about Enix scrapping the remake of Dragon Warrior 4 for the States. :o

I'm not convinced these collections will ever ship, as Conspiracy is on death's doorstep (no presence at this year's E3, no PR people in-house).

I'm also very concerned about the quality of translation on the Phantasy Star "Trilogy," as I don't expect Conspiracy has the budget to hire genuine translators, writers, and editors.

I don't care WHO does it, I just want a updated version of Phantasy Star 4 to be released in the States!

I thought it was kind of odd that we didnt hear anything about these titles at E3 either. In Conspiracys defense, I understand that it is ultra expensive to display anything at E3 and it isn't getting cheaper. Hopefully atleast the first comp will come out. I could care less about Phantasy Star.

They're between $25 and $30. You can find them at www.ncsx.com and www.play-asia.com.

They rarely do hire anyone worth a shit... at least according to a buddy of mine that used to be in the business. Sad that they don't do it in-house.

Great news! I will get both additions
even a slightly upgraded versions of Phantasy Star 2 and Golden axe are enough to make me a happy retro-gamer :D

Yep, hosting any sort of space at E3 is pricey as hell. I can understand why Working Designs has bailed on an E3 booth two years running (Vic has nothing to show), and why Mastiff didn't have a meeting room this year (Bill is a one-man band), but Conspiracy didn't even have employees roaming the floor.

I would LOVE to work on the "Trilogy," but I don't know that Conspiracy even has enough of a budget to cover my mandatory supply of Mountain Dew. Still, I'll put in a bid. And I'll swear not to introduce any WD-style "humor" into the translation. :)

I couldn't agree more. None of the Sega Ages games are on my list of all time Sega greats. Though the Sega Ages version of Fantasy Zone is fun, the rest get suprisingly little play from me.

If they scrap 5 I'll cry. I mean 4 was bad enough but at least I have the NES version, 5's like my second favorite Dragon Warrior game, I want to own an english copy.

And I'm soooo looking forward to the Phantasy Star collection. It's too bad Sony turned down the games for indiviual sales, 2005's along time to wait for something like this. I fear cancelation.

zmweasel: I dunno the PS scripts could use a bit a homour here and there. ;)

I see once again we disagree with our RPG tastes, Daria. ;)

Dragon Warrior 4 was, and always will be, my FAVORITE of the series. I LOVED almost everything about it. I liked how you switched around chapter from chapter with new people and their own strories, and finally in the last chapter meet the main hero and then everything connects together. The graphics and music were a high point of the NES DW's, and I even have the official hint book for the game. :)

I bought the remakes of DW 1-3 for the Game Boy and enjoyed them, but I really wanted to play the PlayStation remake of DW4. Then Enix scrapped plans to bring it to the States.

I've played the translations of 5 and 6, and they are decent games, but I hated almost everything about 7.

Maybe it's just my tastes have changed. Dragon Warrior was the first console RPG I played back in the day, and I really loved it. But 7 just seems EXACTLY like 1. It's stuck in the past. It has'nt evolved, like Final Fantasy has. Nowadays, that I'm older, I like my RPG's to be on the mature side, heavy with stories and plots, and moving characters and music. DW just does'nt have any of that anymore.

Oh, to get this back on topic, I DID really enjoy the Phantasy Star series when I finally played them. Probaly my third favorite RPG series behind Final Fantasy and Lunar. I bought 1-3 for the GB, now I just need 4 for my PS2! :D

aside from translation, im also afraid of the soundtrack of Phantasy Star IV being updated. the original had an outstanding techno soundtrack that was well suited for the genesis sound chip, but i fear what will happen when this is updated... will it sound like a cheesy car commercial or generic background music every daytime talkshow plays when they have a fashion segment? i shudder at the possibility. :o
