I saw the DKC thread poll and said great idea. So just post why you think which game is the best. I just dont know. The first one is so classic and fun...but the 3rd and S&K are great too. The 2nd one has some unique levels too. I couldn't decide so I just didnt vote.

I picked Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Which is my favorite next to Sonic CD.

Personally, I'd put down Sonic 3 & Knuckles, since they were essentially two halves of the same epic. Kinda like "Use Your Illusion 1 & 2."

Of course, I'd rank Sonic CD near the top, too. I'm just being screwy.

I'd vote for this one as well. As seperate parts they are alright, but combined they make an epic game.

Sonic 2 was the best - 2 Player Splitscreen (it does have a lot of Slowdown, but it's the best Multiplayer Sonic to day), Great Levels AND a perfect level of difficulty.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles simply is MUCH to long, and the Sonic & Knuckles levels don't really feel like to much of a Sonic game.

sonic 2 was the best game. it had the right amount of innovation, and it wasnt over done

choice 2 would be sonic 3 and knuckles put together

I think I am one of the strange ones that really enjoyed Sonic Adventure. Don't get me wrong, some of the levels were not needed (like the fishing levels), but the main character levels (sonic, tails, knuckles) were excellent. The Super Sonic level was also awesome.

I just like Sonic Adventure for the way they brought about Super Sonic. I have never gotten Super Sonic in any other sonic game by normal means (I guess you need all 7 emeralds just like in Adventure), but they actually put the emeralds in a form of a better story.

I am also one of the unfortunate peope that still hasn't played Sonic CD, so I can't vouch for how good it is, but I hear it is excellent.

Sonic 1-3 you pretty much have to figure out the story through reading the instruction book, and nothing is really explained in the game. Yes, there are alot of cut scenes in Sonic Adventure, but they really help explain the story of Sonic's world.

I know that with a game like Sonic, you can't explain much, because it is completely action oriented, but I still think it would be awesome to have everything explained, like Eggman (a.k.a. Dr, Robotnik), and the origins of these characters. No point in reading an instruction book if you don't need to. I have played many games that have explained these things without the use of an instruction book. I am going off on a tangent, but not really. I am really trying to say that of the Sonic games I have played, Sonic Adventure explained the story more. Sonic 1-3, S&K, 2-3(S&K) really just plop you right into the game and off you go running through the levels.

Out of the Genesis games, I picked Sonic 2 just because it had to make the Sonic games a franchise. The original Sonic was a huge success, but with Mario coming from Nintendo, if Sega wanted a mascot, Sonic was their best chance. They really couldn't afford to blow the Sonic franchise. They had to show that Sonic was here to stay, and Sonic 2 showed just that. Sonic 2 exploded. Extremely good levels, good bosses, even very good secrets if you could find them. After Sonic 2, the rest was pie. Sonic 3 was innovative, but still nothing that really hadn't been seen before. Sonic 2 was such an incredible title, that it actually made its sequels sell worse. Let's face it, look at the sales of Sonic 2 compared to 3 and you will know what I mean.

If Sonic Adventure was on there, I would have picked it definately. It was doing for the Dreamcast what Sonic 2 was trying to do for Genesis. People wondered if Sonic could "still hang" with the transition to 3D (I don't count Sonic-R because it was racing and Sonic 3D Blast because it was isometric and sucked). Sure the fishing in Sonic Adventure should have been taken out completely, but hey, it happens.

I went with Sonic 2 as well, just because it was such a huge improvement over the first game and made me want Sonic 3 that much more. Ya can't beat the chaos emerald special zones in Sonic 2. The last zone with no rings took me forever to beat without cheating by using debug mode.

I really liked Sonic 1 a lot... but I always felt that the addition of that "duck and build up speed without moving" move really helped the game a lot, so I guess I'll go with Sonic 2 instead.

I can't believe no one has picked Sonic 3 yet... Heck, I'm not even completely sure why I picked 2 over 3 either...

Like Sega Ages I love Sonic Adventure. Has alot to to with the characters and adds to the main story of Sonic vs Eggman with Tails, Knuckles and even Amy. Playing as gamma (which I haven't done yet) is a nice twist too. Big...is kinda useless and should have stayed home.

Anyhow on the list I'd say its a tossup between Sonic 2 and 3.

This morning I played through Sonic 2, got the emeralds on the way or course. What a great game, I like the levels for Sonic 2 the best. And yes Sonic CD is a great game.

Sonic cd deserves more recognition too- sure it came out late in the ill-fated Sega CDs lifestyle and didn't save it, but some of the innovations and quality to the game make it an outstanding product.

Sonic 2 is my personal fav. IN my opinion, SOnic 2 is the perfect platform title. It just hits every mark so well. Everything is so outstanding. THe other SOnic titles of the time are pretty awesome as well.

My vote auctually went for sonic 3. I just like the new levels and level design. I have more expierence, actually lots more in sonic 1 + 2, but still like 3 better.

I am with the guy in liking the sonic adventures for the DC, then the ones ported over to the GC. I have ALL of them for the DC and GC, I mean I have every Sonic released for each system.
Sonic Adventure 1 was my first DC game and absolutely loved it. And I LOVE the new Sonic Heroes games, as well as I loved Sonic Adventure 2. So my vote if there was a poll with all the sonic games would have went to Sonic Heroes.

I picked the 1st one. I like the level design the best, even though it is a little plainer. The 2nd one has amazing level designs but for some reason I just like sonic 1 better.

Call me a heathen, but Sonic 3D is probably my favourite. I'd pick Sonic 2 out of the ones in the poll, though.

It was a close call between Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, but I liked the spin dash. Sonic 3's levels were just far too long to hold my interest.

I left sonic 3d blast out because it isnt really like the other ones, I would have put a bigger list of sonic games but I just wanted to know peoples opionions of the 4 that are alike for the genesis.

If you like Sonic Adventure because it explains the characters, their motivation, and has a neat story, check out Sonic Battle on the GBA -- it's like a fighting game RPG, and has the most dialog and story of any Sonic game yet.

I picked S&K because Knuckles is my 2nd favorite Sonic charater of all time (Shadow being first). And its a really cool game, plus the whole 'Lock-On' feature is pretty damn sweet.

I picked Sonic 2, because it was basically Sonic perfection ... it improved on the first installment with some well thought out extras, like the charging up a spin, being able to become Super Sonic, the absolutely unbeatable two-player mode ...

Sonic 3 overloaded things - there were too many different power ups, and it wore off the essential simplicity of it. Plus the two player modes sucked.

Sonic & Knuckles ... well, it just wasn't Sonic 2! My vote goes for Sonic 2, then Sonic 1. I loved Sonic CD .. and I also loved Sonic 3D - but it was faaaaar too easy! I finished on my first go!!!! I didn't even manage to finish Sonic 1 on my first go - and certainly not Sonic 2! Plus I tend to agree that it is not in the same genre as the others. It's more of a sequely to Flicky than to Sonic, I think. I'm not saying that's not a good thing though ... I was so addicted to Flicky it was unbelievable!

Someone needs to make a poll with ALL the sonic games. It probably would be cooler to just have the ones from the big systems-GC, DC, Saturn, genesis, etc.

You can't include 3d blast in this list.

Oh, Sonic 3 way overloaded everything! I guess thats why I liked it the best. Usually I wouldn't like it if a game overloaded things too much, but sonic 3 is the exception with me.

I loved the different shields on Sonic 3. From the fact that spikey projectiles from baddies would bounce off to the differing abilities of each added a nice little strategic element. Plus that bubble shield made the long underwater parts of Hydrocity fun to explore instead of a frantic race to find air.

BTW the part in Hydrocity where Sonic skims across the top of the water at full speed is the coolest part ever. :)
