Does anyone else remember a T.V. show in the early 90's called Video Power ???
It was an NES game show hosted by a guy that called himself Johnny Arcade...
Kids answered NES-triv in the first round, competed against each other in 1 or 2 NES games in the second, and ran through a maze and collected NES games off the walls in the third.
This was one of my fave T.V. shows when i was young...i'd watch it every day after i got home from school. I'd do anything to get some episodes of it on VHS.
I've seen places online that distribute episodes of very, very obscure T.V. shows, but nobody's got this one. :( Does anyone know where i can find some ?
Also just looking for stuff about it online...post any good links you got too.
Thanks,
Mike-AKA Gigolo

LOL Where were you guys 6 months ago?
I had just about EVERY episode on VHS, all re-recorded onto new tapes in SP mode. Pity I sold them all for $50 shipped on eBay, but they had to go. If I ever hear back from the guy who bought them on coverting them to DVD, I'll let you guys know. Until then, good luck!

I never saw this show. I remember seeing one very similar one nickelodeon where these kids would answer questions, then compete on an arcade machine until they died to see who did the best and get points or something then they would run through this smoke filled maze and see if they could compete it in time or something, it was really weird. I don't think it was the same show.
:eek 2: WOW I cant belive I forgot about this show. I dont remember much though. Just NES games stuck to a wall and a kid yanking em off. Id need to see a vid clip to be shure Im remebering the right show.

Written by a contestant that struck me as being kind of a strange kid, and my reply to his critique is at the bottom.

Holy shit! I remember that show!
I used to watch i religiously after school, even though I cringed at what an asswwipe Johhny Arcade was. I knew damn well that he didn't know jack shit about games and that I could ace everything those kids ever did on that show. It was like waqtching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and everyone was flunking on the $100 questions all the time. They all sucked and I felt I could be a god on that show. Luckily, it was never to be, judging from what kids treated the author of that article like.
I remember my sisters or mom cringing as they saw me watching that show. It sucked bad and I knew it even then. But hell, it wa a show on VIDEOGAMES! That was a much needed thng in my youth, I think. Shit, as bad as the show was, I sure am glad it was there when it was.
That JD Roth show was a little better, but Roth also knew jack shit about games. Neither host was very believeable.

I think that was Phil Moore.
Y'know, I have mixed feelings about Nick Arcade. It replaced a great Jeopardy! style game show for kids that had the dignity and class that Nick Arcade was sorely lacking. Yet, at the same time, Nick Arcade fed my insatiable hunger for video game coverage, and I liked Psygnosis' virtual video game segments (even if it was clear that the kids in them were totally lost). And I really can't stay mad at a show which told me about the Sega World Tour, the first major video game event I ever attended.

heh, good times, good times. There were some pretty decent episodes of the Power Team: my favorite one was when the gang went to Kuros' game and tried to get to Malkil. The show was pretty much a big cliche, though, Maxx Force was the cool-headed and collected leader, Bigfoot was 'wild and crazy' but loveable, Quirk provided the comic relief, Kuros was the strong silent one, and Tyrone was the token black guy ("Aww mahn, Quirk, you almost messed up my pumps!"). This was gold to a 9 year old, though, expecially one with no cable. After the format change, I remember an interesting episode where a kid asks "what color is megaman's hair?", to which Johnny Arcade replies, "Blue", and acts like he's right. The crowd buys it, cheers and they move on to the next question. I was all like, "wtf"!
I missed the format of the old show, and drooled at the first look I ever got at stuff like Castlevania 4 and the color (backlit) game boy, which never became a reality.

I remember Nick Arcade. I used to wonder what the Blue Screened room the kids played the "Game" in actually looked like without the computer overlaying we see at home. To an impressionable kid at home, it looked like they were actually in a game. But I was smart enough to know the truth.

"Make the Grade" had two totally different hosts.

I just want to point out the Internet Movie Database isn't just for Movies. But also TV and Video Games. Use it when you want to know who did what.

Looking back, Johhny Arcade was a real bastard wasnt he?
Did they ever give away a game on the "Stump Johnny" segment or did he always have some "witty" retort to questions he didnt know?
