View Full Version : R.I.P. Globe Flea Market, Fall River, MA
I visited my favorite flea market last weekend, but as I pulled in the parking lot I was surprised to see it completely empty. I pulled up beside the building and there on the door was a note saying "Cease and Desist". Apparantly it had been closed since April 16th (I didn't realise it had been that long since I'd been there). Does anyone know what happened? It sounds like the building was condemned (not surprisingly). Anyone know what happened to the video game guy that was there?

Sad times. I have no idea what happened there, though.

yikes, thanks for the heads up.
i felt a certain ownership to that hole of a fleamarket, it was pretty hard to find and fairly unpicked when i first got there, glad i got what i did when i could. now if toddst would please post the pic i took of their mens room one might understand why it got shut down, aside from being a firetrap.
funny thing i was out flea marketing in that area sunday, we blew all our cash at some other markets and decided to skip fall river, woulda been a wasted trip, unless we met keir in the parking lot of course ;) next time i'm in the area i'll ask at bobs video games, he might know what became of the smoking man with way too many C64 drives.

Weak, I never got to go there! Was it any good?
Seems like people around here are going under too, must not be making enough $$$ to pay the rent.
Although, Cease and Desist usually is a court-ordered stop to doing something, not a rent problem... so maybe someone there was dealing drugs or something :hmm:

nahh nobody over there was dealing drugs, most of the people there were old men sitting beside giant piles of unchanging junk. it was, like everything else in fall river, an old crumbling mill building. the place had more than a touch of gloom to it, the still yellow air, you could move teapot there and come back 6 months later to find still in the same place. i dont how they ever would have paid any rent, it seemed as though the game guy was the only one who ever did any business, he took up a 1/3 of the space anyways. there was the other guy across from him who may have had something but you couldnt look...he was afraid if somebody went digging thru his stuff something would fall on them and they would sue him. i guess that building is the problem, it really was nasty looking. there used to be a thrift on the otherside of it where i made my best $$ find ever, a neo geo and 8 games for $30, poor fools apologized for not having any good stuff like playstations. its kinda sad, that and the providence one were winter game hunting mainstays. i predict the next to go will be bostons maxwell flea in the old box factory.
despair not aaron, the best game finding spot in all of new england, our trademeets will return june 27th!

Maxwell's better not go, where will I buy Ms. Jonni's cake? Even if you don't find any games, Maxwell is worth it for the 3 dollar slice of chocolate (and Ms. Jonni is essentially the nicest lady ever to work at a flea market).

I regret never buying the huge Micheal Jackson bust at Fall River. However, what I will miss most of all is their bathroom:

thats what it looked like after todd finished in there!
uh no todd actually was briefly keeping camblog of the worlds nastiest bathrooms yet lacked the courage to actually set foot in this one. i being a fearless sort went right on in! its ok to "stand and deliver" in there but if one needed to do the other thing you'd have been better off outside in the weeds. man that was one weird flea market, the lesson here is....i dunno but that was one nasty toilet.
