Nintendo's "Give the World a Wedgie" TV Spot

Many years ago, during Nintendo's "Play It Loud" era, I dimly recall an extened commercial whose concluding message was "Give the World a Wedgie". It was quite possibly one of the most awful video game advertisements I had ever seen. (It felt more some of the stuff Rebok or Nike has put out on bad days.)

And yet, if Google picks up this post, it will only be the fourth hit for a search with that phrase. (I'm hoping I'm not spelling it wrong.)

Does no one else here have any recollection of this commercial?

I don't recall the commerical, which likely means I never saw it. I would think the all time worse game commerical would be the Game Gear commercial where the guy is sitting there playing Gameboy, sees a dead squirrel, picks it up, hits himself on the head with it, and then says "duhhh colors!" No matter how stupid that Nintendo commerical you're talking about was, it can't be worse then that. It's just not possible.

I'm intrigued. Now I wanna see this. I think I have a very faint recollection. But no.. it's just not there. I haven't seen it yet. I tried Google too, but no dice. Oh well. Maybe someone remembers it... or has a Time Machine.

hahaha...i love that commerical....doesnt it go its the legend of zelda and its really rad, those creatures from gannon are pretty bad....

those kids were hilarious...i have to find/download that one again

The commercial offends me to my core.

Not only for the use of the "Super Dork" who owns the Nintendo but also for the fact he is trying to impress the "cool" kid (who has Corey Haim's haircut).

Plus the rap is pretty terrible too.


Now a funny Zelda commercial...ahh that would be the Japanese "Link to the Past" commercial. Link and the other characters are dancing ala some boyband video. Hilarous. Bonus points for having Link be played by a girl.

Doh, wait, it's only 58 seconds. In my dim memory they actually had someone (quite possibly these Butthole Surfers, yes) talking for a very brief interval.

On the other hand, 58 seconds is indeed pretty long for a commercial, and what I remember was definitely something like that.
