Well, it's Wednesday, which means back to work for us government folk after a long holiday weekend (giggle). This week's MAME Game will end up running a couple days short, so don't waste any time -- hop on in and let's get to gaming! This week's game, brought to you by QBert, is oddly enough, not QBert. It's a fun little game that involves breaking open stones. Mysterious stones. In fact ...

Mysterious Stones by Technos is QBert's MAME Club pick of the week!

This week's contest: Let's get another high score competition going!

Here are QBert's comments: "I used to play it at a barber shop when I was young. Took me a while to figure the game out but basically the player must explore the rooms of a dungeon. Inside the dungeon are lots of eggs which the player must crack by kicking. Most of them contain items worth 10-15,000 pts and some contain special items like one to crack all eggs, a 'helper', a grim reaper, an angel (invincibility) and the ever important "key ghost" which you must shoot to get the key to the next room. The player must find treasure room and bring back a treasure. Then get out of the dungeon and make it to your plane safely before time runs out. You are then taken to New York or Hong Kong to get your treasure checked and score bonus points."

Download the ROM if you don't already have it, give it a spin, and respond to this topic with your review! Have you played this game before, or is it brand new to you? Do you like the genre? How did it run on your computer? Did you beat it? If so, how long did it take? What was your high score? How far can you get? Did you have any problems emulating the game? When writing your review, post it right here in the sticky topic and include any thoughts you have about the game. Remember, YOU are the reviewer. Let us know anything and everything you think about the game!

Your wish is my command! This is definitely a weird one that will take some getting used to!

This game left me utterly confused. It's a little like Pengo, but with added features and items that overly complicate the gameplay. Things seem to happen at random... you'll be attacked by different enemies all while wondering what you did to incur their wrath. Mysterious Stones isn't at all what you'd expect from the creators of the Kunio/River City Ransom series, and after playing it, I honestly think that Technos should have just stuck with the endlessly fun fighting games that made them famous.

Only a few more days left on this one folks. If you have any free time this weekend, be sure to check it out.

I'm with MN on this one ... the word "Mysterious" is quite fitting in the title as I spent quite a bit of my time wondering what in the world was going on!

Wow, this one is really weird! I'm still not even entirely sure what I'm supposed to be doing. What does your gun do? I haven't been able to shoot anything with it. Is the point just to break open the eggs and collect treasure before that guy destroys the room?

As far as I figured out, you have to get into the room with the treasures, keep going left and evenually you'll find it. There are 3 items to choose from and once you grab one, run out towards your waiting plane. Then they will fly you to New York and you will see if you've gotten the right treasure or not. ive been to 3 different levels I guess you could say and if you bring back the wrong treasure, If I recall right, you have to do that level over again.

Keep playing...its fun once you get the hang of it.
Sorry for rushed post....but Im just leaving work.

Well, I managed to get a treasure out of the first level, and found out it was worth 10,000,000 points!!! @_@ @_@ @_@ ... my final score ended up being 10,029,050

When I got to the next level, there were three stone heads on the left, and I assumed I was supposed to enter one of them... but each one had a blue square in front of it and I couldn't get past. Seems like an emulation bug? Anyone else get this?

By the way, it seems that the first screen always has some way to get a hint. Talk to the statue, and he'll tell you stuff.
