Here's what Postermen said about it:
My game would be Deadly Towers (unless there is a rule about picking games everyone thinks sucks) I actually liked the game. My challenge would be to complete the game without using any Magic Maces.
There's your challenge folks. Have at it. :D

What's going on? NOBODY has played this game yet or what? C'mon, Deadly Towers is a classic!... well, kinda... Personally, I never thought this game deserved it's bad reputation. It has it's problems, but I think it's kinda fun. By the way, you'll find auto-fire very helpful in this game. If you shoot someone, they're stunned and held in place for a second... so get close and just whale on them with the auto-fire and they'll go down without a fight. This is really important, since there are tons of enemies that take like, 50 hits or something.

Bah, beating this game at all is going to take some doing... There's a pretty good FAQ sitting on GameFAQs that looks very helpful though. Seriously, try reading the FAQ and giving this game some effort, and you might find out that you don't hate it after all.
By the way, Using NesterDC 7.1, I get weird glitches when I go to the sub-screen... anyone else getting this?

Well, in case anyone else decides to join in this week, here's some codes:
GW1GQAQEAE - This is one I actually did. You'll start off with 100/140 health, The shield, chain helmet, and the hyper boots. This won't make the game THAT much easier, but it'll give you a better start.
GDXHDPMM10 - This code basically maxes you out. You'll be a killin' machine after this. 100/262 health, all the weapons, all the armor, and all the other stuff (?).
However, no matter what code you use, you can NEVER start with more than 100 health. The codes only increase your maximum health, but you still need to pick up hearts to fill it up.
Also, keep in mind that the actual dungeon entrances are ALL hidden for some ridiculous reason. If you want to enter them, walk into some suspicious corners and you'll find one soon enough. There are other hidden secret warps that work like that too. I have a weird feeling that these are actually bugs in the game rather than "features", but po-TAY-to po-TAH-to, right?

I for one have not gotten around to playing this game yet this week (finals week :o). however, i do plan on playing it... say tomorrow.
I remember playing when i was younger and being utterly confused. I also remember that if you kill all the enemies on one screen and then come back they all regenerate and you have to fight them off again! I wonder if this game is like the legend of zelda, where if you kill all but one enemy on the screen and leave it that way, that the enemies will not regenerate themselves and that one will stay there until it is killed off. I guess i'll have to give that a try. Anyways, interesting pick. my apologies... I haven't been around lately.

Im not on the list or part of this club, but Im posting anyways!! :P
When I was younger and living at home I bought this brand new and would play it with mom and dad damn near every night.
This game is a little slow at first, but MAN I LOVE IT! The secret dungeons you have to play over and over again to memorize or write down the paths(thats what mom did).
Plus we now have good ol Internet for cheat codes and maps, man you guys got it good nowadays....
Finished it many times.
I would definitely give this game another chance if you havent already.

I'm not a member either, but I have to post when the subject is DT, one of my favorite underrated classics.
No disrespect to Seanbaby and his famous list (http://www.seanbaby.com/nes/w20-1.htm), but this is absolutely not the worst NES game ever. It may, however, be the most difficult NES game ever, or it may seem that way if you're not extremely patient. It really requires a lot of exploration, health and resource gathering, and memorizing enemy locations (how many times did just ONE of those damn bats waste all my health because I couldn't get a clean shot at it). The worst part of the game is the sluggish controls, but things really improve when you get the Hyper Boots.
The graphics aren't all that great, but they're really not as bad as people seem to think. Prince Myer looks like he's wearing pajamas rather than armor, but what the hey. I've always liked the music. SUPER repetitive, but good. SUPER repetitive, but good. SUPER repetitive... well, you get the idea.
I see a comment on Seanbaby's site from Alan Weiss, who claims to be the games' producer. He says the original title was "Hell's Bells." That would have been great!
Magic Mace all the way baby!

I haven't had the time in the past week to play anything (and probably won't for a couple of weeks), let alone the NES game of the week, but it's a game that has been in my collection for some time. I can't say I'm a huge fan of Deadly Towers, but it's certainly not the worst game of all time (like Seanbaby said). I remember renting it a long time ago as a kid and being intrigued by it since the top-down view was reminiscent to Zelda; plus I thought the name "Deadly Towers" was really cool back then. The fact that it's so hard and takes so much time to beat pretty much takes me out of the running for putting serious playtime into this game. I've got a huge backlog of great games I need to play, and I think it'll be a little too hard to fit Deadly Towers in right now. I find it interesting that quite a few of you out there have really enjoyed this game. It's fun for a little while, but I just don't have the patience for it.
BTW, whoever decided to post this in the general video game forum should be commended. The NES Club deserves the extra exposure.

Wow! I can't believe this didn't turn into a Deadly Towers is really lame discussion. While not my favorite NES game, it is by far the most underrated. For a better start, die immediately, and change the password by using "EF" or "FE" for the first 2 letters.

Yeah, I just learned last week that Angelfire no longer allows off-site downloading. I can still get images to load though. Alas. You'll have to resort to navigating www.planetemu.net.
