True Fantasy Online cancelled XBOX

Development of True Fantasy Live Online has ceased, Microsoft announced today. The planned Xbox MMORPG from Level 5, developer of Dark Cloud 2, was to be Microsoft's biggest first-party Xbox release for the Japanese market, but difficulties in its development have resulted in its cancellation.

Ohh man, I can't even belive they even considerd releasing an RPG here in the U.S. Those games take too long to make and you can't run ads for them on MTV.

P.S. Sorry about my little sarcastic rant, but I've spent my whole life seeing wonderfull RPG's never being relased in the U.S. and die a little inside every time I find out about a new one. :(

but about the game True fantasy did look as though it had potential but I dont have braodband access for my Xbox so it really didnt matter to me :)

There's too much love in this thread.

I think the thing I loved most about TFO was the character concept art, definately wasn't anime and had a very unique style to it. If Level 5 would do a normal RPG set in the same world with those concepts I'd be happy. (:

And I think Fable's safe, it's not an MMORPG anyway, which I think was the whole problem here. The market's much more competetive then it was when True Fantasy was first being developed, and any one system can only have a couple MMORPGs or they'll end up competeng against themselves for the same pool of players.

Although besides PSO I can't think of another MMORPG for xbox, maybe the systems getting a Matrix port? Something's definately replacing TFO anyway.

two things:

one: in a way, it's a good thing. although tfo had many great aspects to it (i really love level 5's art style in all their games, and the customization and some gameplay ideas here were really cool), the simple fact is the game probably would have done poor at retail without an offline mode to draw in the loads of gamers without xbox live who just wanted a good japanese rpg (and no, not climax's japanese-style sudeki, nice as it looks). that and the fact that trying to pull gamers away from ff XI is a lose-lose proposition, lol...before you turn up the flames of heck on poor me, go check on what's the size of the xbox live pso community these days...

two: it's not a RPG, but kingdom under fire: the crusaders looks good enough to take your mind off any canceled game for a while. microsoft FINALLY picked this up, and for an almost 3-year old game, it's not bad-looking:
