Basically. I've been considering designing and building my own Arcade Cabient for MAME use. I know it won't be easy..but I belive I have an idea that'll work. I'm gonna buy a Dreamcast..and use that as the power behind it. Mainly because..well. a Dreamcast is heeluva cheaper than a PC at the moment. ANYWAYS... eventually thou I'll find some cheap machine to throw in there and use instead of that.

What is the common measuremtns of a normal arcade cabient, as far as Length/Width/Height goes? ... aswell.. How big is the "normal" arcade Monitor/TV? My Guestimates based on the fact I have'nt seen an Arcade Cabient in a while...

Height: about 5/6 feet
Length: about.. 2/3 feet?
Width: about.. 2 feet?
Sreensize: 18 inch?

Thhhhank you for your help.

Here's a link to help you on your project.

Your measurments are about right but your tv size is too small. I suggest using a 27" to 32" tv if you can. This will be especially nice if you play (vertical) shmups on a horizontal tv.

I bought a used top speed cab (http://home.comcast.net/~evilmess/cabinet_01.jpg) for $100 that I'm modifying for mame and it will have a 20" tv. This saved me a lot of time by not having to build the whole thing from scratch.

I think all your calculations are short. I have 11 or 12 cabinets now and I think 3 of them are right at 6' tall and the rest are a little taller. I can take some exact measurements if you want. All of them are around 2 1/2 feet wide, as they all have to fit through an average (32 inch) doorway.

Please? or at least your best guestimate

I did sort of the same thing, except im using a mega drive with a really sweet 2-player arcade stick (microswitched, etc).
Youll probably want to make sure you have the joystick panel the right height to avoid cramps, soreness, etc. When i was planning mine i used a really big cardboard box (think fridge box size) and drew a plan on that to make sure i had the height just the way i wanted it.

In the end mine ended up being slightly too tall for my liking but i choped a bit off the bottom and it all worked out nicely (except for the poor quality workmanship, 6 control changes, rigidity problems (fixed) and a craptacular tv that only takes RF).

Ok, these are all rounded up to the nearest half inch.

Neo Geo
Tall: 6'1"
Deep: 30"
Wide: 25.5"
Monitor: 19"

Donkey Kong Jr.
Tall: 5'7" (shortest one I own)
Deep: 34"
Wide: 24" (narrowest one I own)
Monitor: 21" (PC Monitor for MAME)

Rampage World Tour
Tall: 6'
Deep: 40"
Wide: 27.5" (cabinet) 37" (control panel)
Monitor: 25"

Galaga
Tall: 5'8"
Deep: 34"
Wide: 25"
Monitor: 21"

Road Riot
Tall: 6'1"
Deep: 33"
Wide: 27.5
Monitor: 25"

I took these measurements at the widest point (ie: the tallest part of the cabinet or the deepest part of the cabinet, usually where the control panel is). Hope this helps!
