I recently picked up the old PS2 release of Code Veronica and its got me
thinking about trying out the original series again. The first one was always
my favorite so I was wondering whether I should try to track down the
original version or the Director's Cut which I know really isn't uncut but just
has items and monsters in different places. I played the DC originally and I
know its one strong point is its dual shock support. But its been so long that
I don't even remember if its really well used or not.

Well, Original may run you a little bit more, not too much. But DC has extra's and a horrible soundtrack ;)
If you can stand the music, go for DC.

If you got Gamecube, I suggest you get the Gamecube Resident Evil version. :-D

I agree with NeoVenom, I guess it all depends on how "orginal" you wanna get. The gamecube version is really cool, and even though it is based on the orginal in my opinion it's not the same game, I say go pick up the DC version for the PSone. Unless your feeling like being all hard core then play the org, then the DC, then the Cube version!

If you really want the best of and uncut get the Japanese Sega Saturn version. ;)

Well on PSX, a lot of people say that Director's Cut is better than the original RE, so you should get that version. But if you have Gamecube, get that version. LOL

You mean the music is different too? I had thought that the only changes
with the DC was the placement of objects/monsters. I don't recall the music
being all that bad when I played the DC all that time ago...
Buying gamecube RE... well did I mention anything about a GC in my
original post? :hmm:

Yeah, he is just trying to help you out!
I am going to go ahead and say it too. I just picked up most of the RE series on the GC and love them. I recommend the GC versions too.
I have only played the Original version of RE of the psx and loved it. I am sure the director's cut is just as good if not better.

The music in the begining during the Character intros is different and very B Horror Movie style, I thought the original was a lot cooler in that respect, but then the Dir Cut has Dual Shock support and some extras.
I say go for the Gamecube version. I only say this because if you are going to say, play through the entire series before RE4 comes out, you will get your fare share of the original graphics engine while playing 2 & 3 (on Dreamcast, PS1 or the Cube).
But then again, I can really understand why some people would say that the GC remake of RE1 is a VERY different game. Because it really is, there is so much stuff added, like that hunchback thing... well, I wont spoil it.
Conclusion - you got the time? Play all 3!

Sorry guys, but since I asked about a PSX game and don't own a GC nor
can I afford to get one so constant recomendations to buy the GC remake
is frustrating. I'm sure its amazing, the screen shots certainly blow away
most of what I've seen on the PS2, but it (and RE4) are just not in the
cards for a while. I'll get a gamecub probably when they put them on
clearance to make way for Nintendo's next machine.
But I will be buying a copy of the DC, its so much easier to find anyway but
for collecting purposes the long box original I'll have to get one day. thx
