Well, I finally had some bad luck today. I was saving my franchise to the memory card -- NCAA Football 2004 for the Game Cube. The saves take about a minute. Half way through, WHAM! Power failiue. :(
Of course, I figured the worst had happened. When the power finally came back on a couple hours later, sure enough -- corrupe file. Bye bye to six months of work and over 50 game years.
Why do saves on these modern games have to TAKE so long? This NEVER would have happened back in the days of the NES, when you could save and shut off in three seconds.

Unlike the NES, GC games are a but more complicated, and arn't as easy to save. Lots of things are changed when being played in more complicated games and take time to save and update... sadly, it's something we have all had to come to accept.
Don't worry about it, the same thing happened to me with Animal Crossing, I was angry, but you get over it. And hey, before you know it, NCAA Football 2005 is almost out, July 17th isn't it?

August, I think -- I'm getting the XBox version this time. But yeah, you're right. I was just pissed.
I have'nt lost anything on my memory cards since I stopped using those awfull 3rd party stacked ones for my PSX back in 97. :o

I think that with the GC they have to compress the data to save space on the smaller memory cards, so it takes longer. The Xbox version should save the file faster since saving to the hard drive is faster than saving to the flash memory cards used by the other systems.

I don't really think the GC compression anything to do with it. My old roommate had the PS2 version a couple years back and those save times took forever, even just for one season. I can't imagine saving 50 game years worth of data. I'm sure the xbox will be faster, but I still think you'll have to wait a bit for that much data.

I've noticed that the more data there is on the memory card already the longer it takes to save. Seen this with PS1, PS2 and GC.

yea, those sports games save times are crazy...they are the only kind of games my roomie plays, and it takes him forever to save a season
