The side art, the marquee art, bezels, overlays, control panels... so much room for an artist to stamp the "look" of the game on the game when you're not even playing it.

So think back to all of those arcade machines you've played. Which one really stands out in your mnid as a favorite?

I'm still really partial to Centipede. I've never been particularly good at the game but I just love the text style, the colors, and the artwork.

The whole cabinet looks sooooo nice. With most my cabs, I look for reusabiltity, i.e. Jamma cab for Jamma Games, Nintendo cab for Nin games, Jamma adapters on Non-Jamma Boards, etc. But man, if I could get a mint one of these, I would just sit and stare at it. Beautiful. *sniff*

Definitely the original Taito Space Invaders. The sideart with it's dark blues and large monsters walking on the planet, the cardboard background with the display floating on it, the "space station" control panel all had a definite feel and quality the Midway cabinets just couldn't match. And of course there's a nostalgia factor there as well :) They definitely don't make em like they used to..

Everything about the "Environmental" Discs of Tron cabinet is amazing... Really the art was just a bunch of lines, but it looks just like the Movie.

I love the rather limited artwork for Qix. It puts such a completely abstract game in as concrete terms as it possibly can.

Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe kick ass too, as does Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator.

Galaxian...were the producers of Lexx staring at this cabinet when they came up with the "Moth" ships? The side art's kinda like Lexx Meets Half A Dozen Roger Dean Yes Album Covers.

In the end, though, I guess my vote has got to go to Tron. Granted, it's a photo-collage from the movie, but the wrap-around bezel over and behind the monitor, the computer-world look of the control panel...it's perfect. Even Discs Of Tron, beautiful as the big environmental cabinet is, isn't quite as pretty (though it does have an insanely cool lenticular marquee that changes perspective as you move past it).

Call me biased because it's the only cab I own, but I love the Primal Rage art...

It's got that cool molten lava look all over it, I love it!

Anyone know where I can get replacement side art? Mine's starting to peel. :(

1943 The Battle of Midway - Great game nice pleasing art work always loved that style of plane and the art here is perfectly suited to look at when waiting for your game and not distracting when playing

Top 3 favorites:

Pac-Man, bright colors, cartoony style, and intense memories
Tempest (like many others) I've always wanted to make my own Tempest cab out of hardwood and do the sideart like classic German/East European woodcut: with chisles, wood stain, the whole meticulous 9 yards.
and I've also had something for Donkey Kong Jr., I don't know why. It starts off like DK from a distance, but eventually the colors are different, and the monitor bezel is fun.

Mine would be Tron. I loved the translucent joystick, the recessed backlit picture of the MCP Tower in the background, and omg the purple blacklight running across the control panel. I used to stick my head as far as possible inside the cab to play it. I know I burned more than a few brain cells inhaling all that ozone.

There was nothing more beautiful in the arcade of 1982 than a brand new Tron machine. Last time I saw a Tron cab was four years ago at the local amusement park; Backlight burned out, faded control panel, side art graffitied and knifed. I swear, I wanted to cry... :(

As basic as the side art for Burgertime is, I love it! I like how the top is shaped like his hat.
