View Full Version : What can I use to power a 2600

alright, i got an atari 2600 in a lot with a bunch of games, but there is no ac adapter or controllers or tv switch box....i have controllers and a tv hookup, so i dont need those, but i dont know what to use to power this....what are the voltage requirements and any idea on what i can use as a replacement to test it out....thanks...

You need DC 9 volts, 500mA. Easily had at radio shack.

He's not kidding. You can run a 2600 off durn near anything. You really only need five volts, y'see. But 9V was the official power supply.

The voltage regulator will safely run from 7.5 to like 18 volts, but I don't know if the main power supply capacitor is rated that high and will probably blow up if you go 18V. Plus the regulator doesn't have that good of heat sinking and may melt at voltages that high.

Oh yeah, positive tip on the power connector, too. Very important.

well, i dont have that kind of specific power adapter lying around, so it looks like a trip to the rat shack is in order....thanks for helping me out

a quick trip to a local electronics store, and now i have a working atari 2600 4 switch....thanks for the help
