Holy god, go buy this NOW. Best Zelda game ever. I've only been able to play single player so far, and it's absolutely incredible. The 2D graphics are fantastic, and going back and forth between the TV and GBA is extremely cool. Man, I can't wait to try this with 4 people.

By the way, anybody know off hand how many stages there are?

What's the difference between this and the Four Swords game built into the Game Boy Advance version of Zelda? Does this contain new content, or is it just the GameCube version of the same game?

24 in Hyrule adventure (8 worlds with 3 levels each) and 5 (plus 5 more to unlock) in Shadow Battles.

(only 1 world in Navi's Trackers, but you don't have that game in your version :P )

I have been enjoying this since April when I got my import copy... I just am stuck on the last level now :/ Anyone care to help?

Oh yeah, if anyone wants to donate a PIN number, I'd really appreciate it...

My understanding is that it's totally different from the GBA Four Swords. I've not played the GBA one yet, though, so I'm just going by what I've seen from that version.

And what is Navi's Trackers? Is that the GBA version, or something different?

Navi's Trackers is a 3rd game that was removed from the US version. Basically, you are going around Hyrule trying to find pirates to get stamps from.

Weird! I wonder why they took it out of the US version. Is there a central theme of pornography or religion that had to be censored? ;-)

Gald to hear, I have been waiting for some kind of review or something for someone on this site on how good this game is. I pick up every Zelda game released, always, but don't have the spare cash to just go and buy four swords. But if it's half as good as everyone is saying, I'm getting it this weekened for sure!
Can't wait to play!!! I love the 2-D in this one!!!

Yeah, Nintendo thought the scene when Link enters the whorehouse for "a little fun" was too graphic for us US gamers.

Oh, wait... no, NIntendo said that it was because they couldn't get the voice synthesis done in time (Tetra speaks a lot in it).

Anyone out there wanna donate a PIN? I'll give you a nice shiny NES game for it...

I'd help you out with the PIN, but for some reason none of the blockbusters in my area are getting it for rent.

I swear, this company is absolutely daft.

"Blue Link needs food, badly!"
Ha ha.

Seriously, how awesome is Zelda + Gauntlet? This is going to be a blast when I can find some people to play with.

Glad to hear that the game is that good. I had no doubt. It's obviously different from the GBA version b/c you can play single player as well as having all the new multiplayer levels etc.

But is the game really worth buying if you are probably going to be playing single player most of the time? I love multiplayer but the fact remains that my roomate and girlfriend are not big into games and having just moved, I dont have a lot of friends who are gamers (at least they dont admit it).

You NEED a GBA to play it, right?

YES, it is worth buying. You do not need a GBA for single player. The single player (Hyrule Adventure) is extremely fun controlling 4 Links at the same time :D

I have a couple of questions (one of which has pretty much already been answered).

- Is this worth getting for the single player alone? Admittedly, that's what the game would be most used for.

- Can you play the multiplayer *without* the GBA involved (ie: with plain controllers) or is it required in the multiplayer game?

- If two people are playing multiplayer, do they each need a GBA or can one play with a controller and one with a GBA?

I'd like to pick this one up, but it's got to be *very* worth it.

I've only got a chance to play this game once so far, but as fa as I can tell....

Yes, you can control the other Zelda's pretty easily (in my opinion), and -slipping into Zelda fanboy mode - any Zelda game is a good Zelda game (even Zelda 2 :P ).

- Can you play the multiplayer *without* the GBA involved (ie: with plain controllers) or is it required in the multiplayer game?

Not multiplayer, no. GB's are required.

- If two people are playing multiplayer, do they each need a GBA or can one play with a controller and one with a GBA?

I was hoping so, but no, either one controller or all GB's.

I'd like to pick this one up, but it's got to be *very* worth it.

In my opinion, even with my 20 minutes of playtime I've put in - playing with a 7 and 4 year old - It's already worth the money I paid. And I bought the SP classic to play it with too.....

Nintendo really misses the boat here with its lack of multiplayer online gaming. Imagine having online sessions a la Diablo style. Oh well. :(

Yeah, that could have had decent potential, but I can't shake that feeling that the highly cooperative nature of the game would be a total nightmare without voice chat.

Typing... "Okay, now push the swi..." And then suddenly annihilated by a bunch of knights and bombs. Heh. Typed messages would be FAR too slow and cumbersome for a game that's this fast paced, and so dependent on cooperation.

I just picked this one up yesterday... Circuit City has a deal going... Regular price is $49.99, then take off $5 for their current sale, and on top of that, you get a free $10 gift card...

Hmmm, no fair that my topic got locked seeing as I was talking about the PAL release...

Anyway, I guess the same probably applies. Meh.

Whaddya mean, no fair? There aren't any gameplay differences between the European and the US versions. The packaging may be different and there might be a multilanguage option (I don't know if it's like that or not, but it doesn't matter), but it's still the same game.

Whatever people have said in their comments regarding the NTSC US version applies to the European version as well as the Japanese version. Simple as that.

New Year's day a few friends and I got together to give this a whirl; I had gotten some regular GBAs for $30 each (it was that GBA / e-Reader bundle that was on Amazon.com a while back), and while the regular GBAs are not ideal for it the game was a lot of fun on the whole. The whole competetive / cooperative thing is done so well - you're actually helping each other and trying to outdo one another at the same time! Some of the puzzles and bad guys are really interesting, too...I don't want to give anything away, but suffice it to say that it really puts a great twist on some of the classic Zelda "formulas" when you have four people involved in the process.

Great game. You could get it from KB online for $36 (free shipping, I think) over the holidays; this sale is probably over.

I've just played through the first level, and am still unsure whether or not I like it...

I loved Minish Cap, but this seems too fiddly more than anything. And honestly, i'm sure it doesn't need to keep jumping to the GBA as often as it does...

The thing I find most annoying though, is how you can only save after each level is completed...

And is this the same or a different game to the one which came with Link To The Past? If not, what is it's relevance to it?

I played with my brother and my friend, both of which are the biggest zelda fans I know, and they totally loved it. Of course I killed them on points becuase they spent the whole time trying to kill each other while I was collecting rupees but we had a blast. I have to admit that burning each other and blowing each other up is really addicting and I'm surprised this game hasn't gotten more of a buzz because it's really fun to play. It's also pretty long, we played for like 2 and a half hours and only beat the first level so there's plenty of gaming to be had. I'm not sure how difficult the game is later on but I'm not worried about it. It's not the challenge that's fun, it's the collaboration and competition that makes this game amazing.

By the way I played a demo of minish cap at Target and was very impressed with the graphics. Right up there with Chrono Trigger as far as the backgrounds go.

Besides the fact that "CDi Zelda" in Google would have answered your question...

As part of Nintendo's half-baked attempt to screw Sony and go with Phillips for a CD-based video game system, they struck a deal to release several Zelda games on the CDi system. They all stunk; therefore he "keeds" (kids) when he says that the game should be put on the CDi.

I bought this game when it first came out and played
it in single player mode for about 15 minutes.
It sat on a shelf until 2 weeks ago.

I was under the impression that you either had to
play in single player mode or with 4 players.

How wrong I was. My 7 year old daughter and I
have been playing it and having a blast. It is my favorite
coop game of all time. We just finished level 5

I highly recommend it. You wont be dissappointed!!!!

Wow. This thread is old. But hey, I'll chime in and say it's probably the most under-rated Zelda game ever. Lots of fun. Just be sure not to be playing with total bone-heads in multi-player (took us a freakin hour and a half just to get through one level because one guy kept wandering off and another thought it was hilarious to keep hitting everyone with the Fire Wand)

Hee hee, that's the fun part, being a sneaky little player and getting all the loot for yourself!

I've only played this two player so far, but it SO fun. I'm very glad I bought it and considering it includes a link cable (haw haw, LINK cable... .....) it is, in my opinion, worth the price tag. I ended up buying the UK box because it's a lot nicer looking than the Australian release.

Nothing better than playing it with a Zelda SP!

Ancient thread revival...

Just picked up Zelda: Four Swords Adventures very cheap and decided to try it out (on my Wii) since I missed it back in the day when it was first released. Only a couple of hours in but OMG, this game is one of the most fun experiences I've had with my clothes on for a very long time.

Anyone who has yet to play this, please do yourself a favour and pick it up for cheap and try it out.

I have fond memories of Four Swords. I only wish it was longer and maybe a touch harder.

My copy has a strange glitch. Every so often, you'll switch screens and the controls will reverse, forcing me to pause the game and unplug the controller.

Four Swords is extremely awesome multiplayer. I own four SPs and Link cables just so I can bust out the game during parties and everyone always loves it. Although my friends tend to lose patience during the shadow town. They just like killing things and shanking one another in the back for rupees.

Im yet to play it multiplayer :( However ive been told you can be very evil on it...
Picking up a new weapon/useable item, will leave your character invincible until the dialogue has left your screen. So leave the rest up to your other players as you read slowly.

Yeah, but your friends can beat up on you, and steal your shit. Also if they pick you up, you can't do anything until they throw you down. Pissing off your friends isn't generally a good idea.

Four Swords is such a fun game. It's essentially "Zelda Arcade" and it works so very well. I too played it on Gamecube with all the wires, still excellent.
