View Full Version : Anyone Using Self Storage for their Overflow?

I was initially going to post this in the Arcade Alley forum, but I felt it could apply to anyone really.

I'm experiencing a bit of overflow. I have too much stuff for the space I have. Many things don't get a whole lot of use, but I don't want to get rid of them. Team this with the desire to add some more arcade cabinets, and we're talking no spare space at all. So, until I move out, I was thinking of renting a self storage space. You know, climate controlled, locked away, the whole bit. There are several options in my area and I'm planning to visit them this weekend (well, maybe).

Does anyone here use self storage for their collection or anything else? Worth it? Good idea? Any bad stories?

Generally, unless you have some real value items to store, it's probably not worth it. Those rental units are ~$100/month. Plus there's the factor of not really wanting to put valuable items in there.

What exactly do you have to store? I probably couldn't provide as much storage as a 15x15 room, but if it's short term there's the possibility of my holding some of your stuff in my basement (it's clean, secure, it's where all my stuff is).

I put my entire collection in a storage unit about 3 or 4 months ago. It costs $40 for a 5 X 10 room. I haven't had any problems so far.
