View Full Version : Gratitude!
downfall

I wish people were more thankful when you go out of your way to do something nice for them.
Anyway, I put up a Resident Evil Anti-Virus kit on ebay. Three days, starting at one cent. Brand New kit, nothing more, nothing less. A few hours later, I get an e-mail from a guy in Belgium, asking if I can change my auction to ship the item to Belgium if he wins. Sure thing, go ahead and bid, and he does. I make it clear that the shipping will be more than the listed $4, and it will take a bit longer to ship.
Fast forward.
Same guy from Belgium wins the kit, ends at $26. I say hey, since the bidding ended at $26, I'll eat the rest of the shipping charges, it's only a few extra dollars anyway.
Later that night, my car is totaled (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35237&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=), so I send them an e-mail with a photo of the car and say hey, I cannot ship because of this accident, I hope you understand, and as soon as I am able to make it to the post office, I'll ship it out.
They were very understanding, and very nice.
I then shoot them an e-mail and say hey, since I got delayed on the shipping, I think I have an extra Resident Evil Outbreak Poster and a magazine I can throw in there for you also if you want them and I have them. I knew they were a big RE fan from their other auctions. They just bid on a ton of RE stuff at once.
Finally ship it out, and I get the feedback:
"everything received. little bit disappointed because the poster has been pleated"
Ugh.
The poster wasn't even part of the deal to begin with. I was being nice because the car wreck was out of my control, offering them something extra, for free, in addition to everything else I did for them:
- Authorized them to bid on the auction
- Ate the extra shipping charges
- Let them bid with 0 feedback
- Threw in the FREE poster
And then they leave that for me.
Yay for humanity!

Was it reported as positive, neutral, or negative feedback?

It was left as a positive, but my topic would lead you to think otherwise.
Personally, it's not about the ebay feedback being positive or negative. I'm not looking for some kind of praise or anything either.
It's just that when you go out of your way to do something nice for someone, and they show little to no gratitude in return, it (at least for me), makes you wonder why you even bother to do things like that in the first place.

that is FUCKED up man.
I'd be sure to write him a nice long e-mail stating how I feel about his ignorance. What's his e-mail address, you don't want to do it, I will. I can't believe some people are really really this moronic.

This is why you don't promise anyone something before sending it out, no matter how long they've had to wait. Because all of a sudden, "the goodies" were in the original auction and they will hold you to it.

I had a guy buy something from me BIN and 4 days after the auction he tells me that he can't paypal the money and wanted to know if he could send a money order to me, well it gets here almost 2 weeks after the E-Mail, then I had to wait for my bank to clear it, so another week gone by, he threatns to report me to E-Bay for not sending the item, he said" I checked and it is a 4 day turn around from your zip", I sent the item and I basically told him to fuck off, then he has the nerve to bid on another one of my items, told him that he couldn't buy from me anymore, so he wins and doesn't pay, he sent me a message that only said "HA!". I use E-Bay to supplement my income so it is not a joke for me, I guess some people don't take money seriously or contracts for that much.

Why are you waiting a week for a money order to clear? The whole point of using money orders, as far as a buyer is concerned, is to not have to wait for the money to clear before the item gets sent.

My bank treats a money order like a check, so to avoid fraud and insufficient funds they have a week holding on personal checks and money orders, it is just one of their policies.

this is one of the reasons I use Pay Pal only, I like my bank but some of the waiting periods are lengthy.

Once a money order is cashed though there is no way that I know for the purchaser of the money order to cancel it. Since you pay cash for the amount that is shown on the money order I am a little confused by the banks statement about fraud or insufficient funds. A money order is supposed to be as good as cash.

some people take the money orders put them in an old type writer and add zeros to the total and try to pass them off, and yes through some money order issuers you can request tracing/refund, but the reason for the bank delay is some people will send them out and before they arrive request a refund then when that person cashes it the bank takes it out of the payees bank acct to cover the ammt. i thought it was crazy at first, but the added security verses the delay is worth it, especially when dealing with anything over $100. I have many from integrated payment systems that have on the back of the stub the request form, and I won't send out an item until I have the money in my bank acct or paypal acct.

The guy was a bonehead, to be sure, but don't let that stop you from still doing cool things for some people. In all of my auctions I always try to do something cool for the people, somehow. I don't know why, I just do. When I used to trade CD's I always included bricks of Bazooka gum. People loved getting that little bit extra.
I've been screwed by people, but the ones that truely appreciate a little extra effort make up for the suckass clowns.

I think I'll be trying to trade with you in the future. LOL ;)
Anyways, nah man, no need to let this discourage you from being nice in the future. Hell, I've done nice things, lots of times people are greatful, but 1/2 the time they arent. I ran a contest a few years ago on GameFAQs, the NES board, for Christmas and I gave away a box of goodies to whomever got all the hidden boards correctly. Well, in the end, the winner didn't even send a quick e-mail to say "thank you, I recieved the package". Actually, I got quite a few e-mails from some of the people who didn't win thanking me for bringing some much needed fun to the boards. After the gameFAQs children overrun that board, I left, and haven't been back.
The point is, there are a lot of really ungreatful jerks out there. Some people just don't care....but for every bad one theres a good one. And just putting a smile on one persons face, and getting a wholehearted "THANK YOU" e-mail, is worth putting up with all the other jerks.
