First off, let me explain to you how much I love RGB. RGB is a dream. Nothing is better when it comes to displaying interlaced video games. When it comes to the TG-16, Master System, Genesis, SNES, Sega CD, Atari Jag, 32X, Neo-Geo, Sega Saturn, Sony Playstation and Nintendo 64, there is no better video signal to feed to a monitor.

RGB is how games are coded. It's their natural form, at least back in the era of 1988 to 1998. When you are playing a game on an RGB monitor you can't adjust the color. The reason that you can't adjust the color? Because you don't need to. The color in RGB is exactly how the developer intended the color to look. The only thing you can mess with is Brightness and Contrast. That's because the RGB signal is the best pure signal to mess with. At least prior to Progressive Scan gaming that came along with the Sega Dreamcast and the VGA Adapter.

Anyways, not to digress, but you know how much I love RGB. I'm always doing different topics about RGB.

Well I recently discovered something pretty freaking amazing. If you have a Modded XBOX, and you have the Neo Genesis emulator on there, and if you have a HDTV that does 1080i, then you can have a signal that is virtually EQUAL to a TRUE RGB SIGNAL!

Here is the deal. You need to configure the Neo Genesis emulator to do 3 things.

1. on" Xbox Hardware Filtering" turn on the "Trilinear Filtering" option.

2. On "Software Filter" set it to "Super Scale 2X"

3. On "Video Mode" set it to " 1080i "

Now, if you use these settings, and you have a XBOX High Definition cable, and you have it hooked up to the HD component inputs on the HDTV that can handle a 1080I signal, then you are basically playing the Genesis in freaking RGB!!!!!!!!!

I mean believe me when I tell you. I have played tons and tons of RGB, and this emulator on the XBOX, with those settings hooked up to a HDTV is the equivalent of having a 51 inch Widescreen RGB monitor!

It is so good, that if I can eventually get a Genny controler made to work on the XBOX, that I would be willing to sell all my Genny gear. (well, maybe.)

You are a high definition whore. No but seriously, sounds cool...now only if I had an xbox and were to get it modded and have a high def tv, and be able to hook up every controller to the xobx... i'd be all set.

Yes, I'm a High Definition whore. I love resolution. The more resolution, the more I love it!

But anyways, the Genesis is one system where on the XBOX in this form it is actually just as good as real RGB. That is a pretty amazing thing. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the SNES. The SNES does look good in 1080i, but not better than RGB. Now, the old NES, which never could ouput RGB looks great with these settings too. I really don't need a NES anymore. I just need Mad Catz to make a RetroCOn controller for the XBOX.

I'm actually considering getting rid of my entire NES collection. At some point, anyways. I have tons of other stuff to sell, before I sell my NES stuff, but at some point I could see getting rid of all my NES stuff.

a collection of roms in my opinion isn't really a collection. i don't think you
should sell your collections you might regret it later. it might look better on
the xbox but wouldn't you miss putting in the cart and powering up the
systems. i know i would.

"No longer needed" perhaps, but I'm pretty sure it would be substantially cheaper to get an RGB Genny set-up than it would to fork out for a HDTV & medded XBox for "virtually" the same effect.

I'll stick with my 60Hz RGB Megadrive on a 32" TV, thanks.

that statement assumes that every color in your home monitor is calibrated exactly the same as the programmers (probably) professional monitor. not to be picky, but you can set up different monitors with rgb, and get not the exact same picture.

Normally I would agree with you, but when it comes to the NES, there are a couple of reasons why I wouldn't actually mind just going with roms.

1. NES systems are faulty! I've had a number of different NES systems, and they've all had problems. I've even put in new connectors but eventually they start screwing up again. So actually getting a real "NES" to work, is a chore.

2. Then you have the issue of cleaning the carts. You better make sure you carts are really clean, or sometimes they won't play, or they could even mess up you system.

3. Once Mad Catz makes the RetroCon for the XBOX, which supposedly is coming real soon, then you will have a controller that will be very close to what a old NES pad is like.

4. I was never a big NES guy anyways. This is probably the most real significant factor. When I had a NES I wasn't really a gamer yet. I didn't become a "gamer" till the TG-16 and Sega Genesis showed up. That is when I became a gamer. So I have many more fond memories of systems released after the NES. Sure I had my memories with the NES, but nothing like I do for the systems that came after the NES.
