I figure most of the people here have heard Pac-Man fever, or more recently the Mini-Bosses (if you haven't do so quickly), but does anyone have any other great songs/bands etc. with a video game flair?

My personal fave is a local Indy band called Johnny Socko, who are a great ska band in their own right but also have an awesome VG song called "Old School Master". They actually manage to get the Konami code into the lyrics. It's good stuff.

Johnny Socko are pretty good. I've got their "I do Hope it's Roast Beef!" EP and it's good stuff. There's a list around here somewhere but some songs with game references that I can remember:

Randy's "Welfare Problems"
Del the Funky Homosapien's "Protoculture"
Attaboy Skip's "Oceanside Putt-Putt"

that's all I can think of right now but if ya want use the search feature and drag that old topic back from the crypts and dust it off..

These guys are working on making a metal remake of every song from the original Metroid. Good stuff.

Not really videogame related.. but when I was playing FF3 actively when it came out I was listening to that Jap heavy metal band Loudness and their album Disillusion (which was before they came to the states and were heavily commercialized and lightened). Oddly enough there was a song called "Esper" on there (anyone who's played FF3 knows the obvious connection), so ever since then I always associate that song with FF3 :P

There are Japanese and english versions of the lyrics.. here's the english. I don't know if in jap they're singing the same thing though... I will say that before the net, I never knew what the guy was saying because of his thick accent LOL

A hurricane, alive with death and danger
She struck me down, made me feel the power
Crazy guys, you'd better fear the reaper
Belive it now... It's mystic power!

After the storm, I see there's nothing standing
Death and destruction, corpses fill the city
I am reborn from those who died before me
Believe it now... It's mystic power!

* Oh yeah, neverending fire, energy
Oh yeah, secret mystery, energy
You are Esper!
Esper! Esper! Esper!

You'll never know the feelings I have tasted
You'll never see sensations I have wasted
The universe is open now before me
Sing me away... it's mystic power

* Repeat 3 times

This ones been a fave of mine since I heard it a few weeks back. Doesn't deal with any particular game but it's as catchy as hell. The version below is set to a Flash animation...which only adds to it in my opinion. :D

The giant, floating, pixellated head of Sir Clive Sinclair is most disturbing in that video. LOL

I like the Techno Maniax albums released in Japan - remixes of old-school game music and sound effects that run the gamut from very cool to "why on earth did they bother?"

And of course, our own Tony Fox graced us with the aural wonder that is I Am Humanoid (http://www.digitpress.com/tonyfox.htm), and running a very close second is 8-Bit Weapon (http://home.earthlink.net/~naughtyboy/8bw/sounds.html), one of many acts who played live at CGE last year. I give those two very, very high recommendations.
