anyways, great site, but I just never cared for this type of artwork. It's too...i dunno....looks like a child drew it. Meh, to each is own, so don't flame me for my opinions. I like the artwork more during the FFVII & VIII era.

Daria, I came across this when I was looking for ref pics for some cosplay ideas and was reading some on Amano-related cosplays when someone posted this link. I wish it was in English though, love to read his bio..maybe buy an art book at the con next week too.

I said the same thing once before and was flamed to no end for it.

I've known about that site for a long time. :) Forget the Amano, check out the brilliant works of Nobuteru Yuuki and Kou & You Yoshinari. :P

As for Amano, like everything related to Final Fantasy, he's vastly overrated (and completely lacking in variety), but I do like some of his older work to some extent (like the Final Fantasy 6 art and such).

It's funny how people can knock great games just cause they sell well. Same thing happens around here for games like Madden and Half Life. :o

But yeah, I much prefer the more realisitic style used in FF8 and 10 myself. One of the things I really loved about 8 was that you can tell how the charcters are feeling just by the way they move their bodies -- all very real and a great touch.

Wow, it's really cool to see some FFVI artwork.

But, I do wonder... why is Terra's hair blond? She has turquoise hair in the game...

One thing I love about Amano's work is that it isn't anime, which automaticaly means it looks drastically different then the artwork done for every other video game.

Stylistically though I love the way he weaves patterns through out his drawings. Sometimes the way he draws women bothers me, they all look alike. But I love the drawings he's done of Edgar, Locke and Steiner. And then there's another of Terra lounging on a mech over looking a city which is just really fucking cool.

And I don't even particuarily like FF6. :D

Anyway I just appreciate how different his artwork is.

I think most people here are intelligent enough to form opinions on what they play based on how much they've enjoyed a game, not because of sales numbers. :/

Even if someone is the biggest fan of the Final Fantasy series, I think it's a bit silly to suggest that it ISN'T overrated (and at least somewhat lacking in variety). Since FF4, each game has had a very similar battle system and plot (and the earlier games weren't much different either), and most people who have played any decent amount of RPGs can pick out one like they like better than the Final Fantasy titles. I mean, I LOVE Chrono Trigger, but even I can admit that it's really overrated (and the rabid fanboys annoy me to no end). Likewise, I can admit that the battle system is pretty standard.

If you don't like the later FF games and have played them for several hours, that's fine -- I may not agree with you, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I was just saying I hate people who flame games just cause they sell well and/or have'nt played them. I explained that pretty poorly. :)

And yes, I admit that I'm biased, because I AM a huge Final Fantasy fan. :P

I've personally never been able to stand Amano's work. They make me shudder whenever I lay eyes on them. I think the guy has zero talent and the pictures look cheesy....but you know, to each their own. *shrugs*

Just a note though, most of that art was included in the manuals for the OSTs of VII, VIII, IX, and X.

Some of his stuff's pretty well... ugly, (see Kartia's artwork), but no talent? Umm... heh. No. He's done plenty of other paintings that are simply beautiful. I'd say I admire about half his portfolio, but I wouldn't deny the man has talent.

I do agree Daria, his paintings have that flow to them that feels so lifelike and beautiful, ya know?

I absolutely agree with you! Anyone who denies his talent should maybe check out his artbook next time you stop by Barnes & Noble* or wherever. There may or may not be any difference between the internet postings and the printed page, but I prefer the latter.

Atomic, B&N has his artbooks usually and how much they go for? I'm thinking of looking for one his artbooks when I go to Anime NEXT this weekend or next time I'm at a Japanese bookstore.
