Can anyone give me any info on this thing. I know not to buy from these guys based on some of the threads here.

Take a look at this page (http://www.gamersgraveyard.com/repository/snes/peripherals/super8.html). :)

I've got one. Only mine came in a Purple box with the text reading...

"Innovation Super 8 -- Put the NES back in the SNES".

Anyway... it's basically an NES/SNES/FC/SFC adaptor, like the website mentions. Of course, I don't have any Famicom or Super Famicom games.. so I can't really try that part. But the NES adaption is good.

You'll get some fairly faint light lines going down the screen at most times, but you'll get used to them and rarely notice they're there after a short while. I also tried a few games out on the Model 2 SNES and it seemed to be just fine as well, including the Game Genie for both NES and SNES. Super Gameboy doesn't, however.

The Only problem I've ever experienced with an NES game is in River City Ransom. The colors of the first stage are inverted for some crazy reason, but once you leave that section and return, the colors are back to normal. There are a few SNES games that come out funky. Street Fighter Alpha 2 for example gets all blocky and pixelated.

And I think, I memory serves me correctly, a few later era Nintendo games prevent it from playing, assuming it is a copying device... like Super Metroid. Then again, why bother playing with an adaptor what you can play normally on your SNES?

:P

Here is a picture of it in use. Remember to reload it since it's on Geocities.

I have a Super 8 also, and for the most part it works like it should. However, I wouldn't recommend it to someone who has a large NES library and plans to replace their NES console with it. There's some incompatible games, some not even listed in that old Super 8 FAQ. Battletoads randomly crashes on the crater stage (from my own experience), and I've heard more of the later NES games with special chipsets have problems as well. I haven't noticed a vertical lines problem that was mentioned above.

That's odd.

Question... is your Super 8 the purple box one, or the one from the pictures above?

Mine's the purple box "Innovation put the NES back in SNES" just like you described.

Hmm... guess I'll have to track down a copy of Battletoads to try out.

Thanks.
