recently i recived 2 sealed games for the intellivision that are not gatefold and are shorter, even though they are in the same like game line and made by intellivision
any info on when they switched? and whats the diffrence in age between the 2 THANKS

The gatefold boxes came first. I believe the non-gatefold boxes were later releases (including additional print runs of some of the earlier titles). As for why they changed, it's almost gotta be cost - the gatefold boxes had to be more expensive to produce, plus there was the additional little plastic tray that actually held the cartridge, which would've been an added expense on the production end of things.

When INTV Corporation continued the Intellivision line after 1983, they opted to go to cheaper boxes (shorter), black and white labels and manuals to save costs.
Mattel released a few games in small boxes too. Burgertime, Kool-Aid Man, Masters of the Universe, Mission X, Motocross and maybe others. I think these were also released in 1983, but before INTV Corp.

also i noticed when i was looking at dupes of some of my gatefold boxes, that some have like a number on top and some dont, even though they look the same, when did they change that?

There are a TON of variations in Intellivision stuff. For any game you can find 4-5 instuction variations, 2 overlay, and 3-4 boxes. Some of the gatefold boxes had plastic trays, while others built the cart holder into the cardboard. I found 5-6 label variations for Armor battle too. It's really ridulous, and was too much to keep tracvk of so I stopped trying, and now I'm only keeping my favorite games lose.
