Apparently they removed a lot more from the Beta of Chrono Trigger than simply two music tracks. They removed entire areas, radiacally altered the landscape of an era, and subtracted some things from another era.
...
Other bits of information: Ayla is nowhere to e found, and Schala was originally intended to be a playable character, aquired after you lose Crono. Due to lack of time, and a lack of interest to fully flesh out a story for her, she was removed. It's been suggested that Flea and Dalton were playable at one time, although the only evidence for this is a unusually high amount of poses and animations for them."

Interesting. I always wanted to have Schala in my team, and the fact that there was a blank space on your character screen (if I recall, it's been awhile) always made me wonder if they had originally intended for her to join your crew.
A Schala/Magus/Robo team woulda rocked.

Yeah, a lot of data was changed before the final release. The build of that beta was 3 months before the final version.
All of that beta info has been floating around the net for a few years but there's never really been a central place to find it, so every now and again it is "re-discovered" and posted on some forum.
It's definately the best beta I've ever seen in terms of changed content. Some really good content was scrapped, Singing Mtn., Zeal secret path, colleseum, Keeper's Dome song, battle remix songs, etc. etc.
BTW, Alya and Magus are in that beta, and Schala is still just an NPC

Interesting, I have never heard of this beta. It would be cool to make up an article with all the cut out stuff, but quite frankly, I don't have the time to do it myself. If anyone wants to, I'll be happy to put it on my site.

Would this "beta" perhaps be the Japanese in-store demo cartridge?

Very cool, interesting stuff, but it also kind of gives me an eerie feeling, for some reason. I wish I could just sit down with one of the developers and find out the full story behind the stuff. I don't think that would fully satisfy me, though. I'm so in love with Chrono Trigger that I don't even really see it as a game. It's more like a tiny little world to me, and I want to explore those areas and get an explanation as to why I couldn't never find them before. :P
I've always loved the song Singing Mountain, and it's interesting to see that there's a "Singing Mountain dungeon". It's a very sad, touching song. I always pictured it being played in some lost scene after Crono dies. Like after the tidal wave hits, you'd see Marle, Lucca, and others on the wet cliff, and the song starts as a dialogue event begins with Marle thinking of Crono. Like the event after he is revived, but instead of the joy and relief, it's just sadness.
ANYWAY... o_O
I highly doubt that the song plays as a dungeon theme in that place. It's just not fitting. Perhaps once you complete the place a sad event occurs and the song plays. I still like my make-believe scenario better. :P In fact, I'm a little disappointed that the song is from the prehistoric era. It just doesn't seem... right... O_o

I'm gonna have to look for this song myself now (unless anyone can send me the mp3). I never knew about any of this an dlike stated, I'd love to read a full report about this.

Well the more important question is.. there a beta rom floating around? Would love to see it. Chrono Trigger is one of my all time favorites. Still remember paying 70.00 for itback in the day.

If this is from the in store demo game, then it would be this:

I signed up for this forum just to reply about Trigger. What I wanna know is, why keep some places in the game IN the game if they weren't available to access, such as the Sun Keep in Zeal as well as the North Palace. Why keep that in the plotline about these places (among others) if we can't go? I've always thought that was wrong. I wonder if the Elemental Weapons were any better than say the Rainbow Sword and such... *sigh* guess we'll never know. Now, is there any NEW news on a Trigger 2? I Google+nothing new comes up. Is Toriyama wanting to do a Trigger 2+SquareEnix isn't letting it happen yet? I'm pretty sure the anticipation has grown almost to a breaking point among us Trigger fans!

The Sun Keep is still there because it's the same world. You're required to set the Moon Stone in the past then acquire the Sun Stone in the future. It wouldn't make sense if the Sun Keep wasn't there every single timeline up to the future timeline.

No, I get that, I've been playing the game off+on since 98. I remember wanting to beat it before 99 came around hoping the Day of Lavos wouldn't come haha. Weird, I know. But, I mean about the other inaccessible places we couldn't go to, not just on Zeal but in all other time periods, like some houses and whatnot. Just makes me wonder is all...

Probably because there was no need to remove them and risk breaking something.

That seems plausible. Now, lemme continue: has anyone played Crimson Echoes yet? I got to the first? boss I think but didn't make it after due to my laptop crashing or something (still haven't taken it anywhere to see what's wrong with it yet) but I re-downloaded the ROM and am about to play again soon. Has anyone beaten it yet? Are the storylines good? I think it's awesome these people did that and SquareEnix needs to have a seat on this just cuz they won't make any money off of it.

I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to it than "the evil company wants its money." The hack would have most likely been better off if they weren't trying to make it/interfere with canon, much less around the time of the DS port.
Speaking of hacks, there is one that puts the colosseum in, though I think CE has one as well.

That's interesting. I agree, too. I realize the company isn't just dead-set on figures and all that, but it IS out to make $ and it isn't making any w/the Crimson Echoes.
I have another question: does anybody know how some of the people start off with higher-than-normal HP/MP levels in Crimson Echoes? I'm watching the YT walkthrough, since there apparently (or easily) a text walkthrough (maybe there is+I've not seen it yet; care to link me?) and I'm starting out with around 100 on Crono, Marle+Lucca trying to beat the new tank. How much HP does it have? I'm also trying to gather as much gold to upgrade my weapons+shit but there just isn't enough monsters around before getting to Zenan Bridge.
