First, I want to inform everyone that I'll be away until next Friday 6/25 so I won't be answering any PM's.

Damon Plus chose this week's game and here is his challenge:

With the remakeīs release, is time to remember how good the original River City Ransom is. Probably my favourite game, with tons of replay value, it takes the fun to a new level, specially with a second player . A challenge? Finish the game on advanced level without purchasing any tecnique.

Have at it and enjoy. :D

Oppinion: Probably my favourite game of all time

Plataform: First played on emulator last year, bought the cart three months ago.

Progress: Finished once on rom, at least 8 times on the last three months. :D I canīt put the game down, is that addictive.

Challenge: Iīve just started the game on the Nes. Itīs a pain to input the password, but I prefer the original cart to the rom, even if I can use savestates. I wrote down my password after defeating Blade.

Opinion: This is a great game, the best beat-em-up for NES IMHO.
Platform: I played it on Nes back in 1990!
Progress: I finished it, and last year i finally did something i wanted to do for years: I bought all the technique-books, saved 999 US , without beating any of the bosses!

Opinion: Definitely one of the best games on the NES. A cult classic beat-em-up that is hard to put down. I've played the hell out of this game on FCE Ultra but never bought the cart.

Platform: FCE Ultra

Progress: Finished it.

Challenge: I'll try it out sooner or later.

I've played through it on a NES back when you could still rent it and beat it. I've beaten twice on emulation many years ago as well as beating the PC Engine CD vesion which thankfully lets you save to the system memory. So I've beaten the game 5 times now. I've also played the X68000 and GBA versions but still haven't beaten them.

Opinion: Awesome game that still stands the test of time. Probably one of my 5 favorite NES games growing up. Haven't played the GBA remake though.

Platform: NES, of course. :D

Progress: Completed, numerous times... except when I was javelin thrown across the far side of that bottomless pit and the same sort of stopped there.

LOL

Challenge: I'd purposely play through just to buy all the special moves and try them out, over and over again.

Side note... River City Ransom is the only NES game I have that appears "altered" on my Super-8 adaptor.

All I can say about this game is BARF!

Actually this is one of my favorite games of all time as you can see in my avatar.

Opinion: River City Ransom is a strange game in the fact that it was underrated and ignored during the glory days of the NES, but has since been overrated by the classic gaming community. I constantly see this game referred to as "the best NES game ever", but I'll have to respectfully disagree. It's a fun game to be sure, but I can't give it more than a score of 8 out of 10. One of the biggest problems I have with it is that it can easily be beaten in 20-30 minutes. There's just not enough to keep my interest. I also think the play control could be a bit sharper. For some reason, Mighty Final Fight still remains my favorite NES beat-em-up; even though Capcom made a huge mistake in making it one-player only, it's still the best on the NES IMO. I also like Double Dragon 2 a lot. The Streets of Rage series are my favorite beat-em-ups on any console, but that's another story. I am a big fan of the Kunio series as a whole, though. I love games like Super Dodge Ball, Crash N The Boys, and whatever the ice hockey game is called. I just wish I could find more Kunio Famicom carts! To be truthful, I'd rather play those types of games than RCR!

Platform: My NES, what else?

Progress: Beaten a while ago.

Challenge: Too busy/lazy to try it right now.

Opinion: I love this game! I've had it for a while, but I never really sat down and played it. I never realized what I'd been missing! It's not my favorite NES game of all time, (that would be Mega Man 3) but it's easily in my top ten. It's also definitely my all time favorite beat-em-up. My only problems with it were the length, and the slowdown during 2 player mode.

Platform: My Top loader NES

Progress: Me and my brother beat it in a few hours.

Challenge: Too tough for me! :o

One of the things I like more about RCR is that can last 30 minutes if you rush through it or can last 2-3 hours if you decide to maximize your stats. I donīt see it as a bad thing.

Ah, everybody already knows this game... I'd rather see crazy and wacky games show up here so I could try something I've never played before. But oh well, RCR is still one of the best NES games out there. I've never been very good at it myself though.

I had always heard of this game before, but never had a chance to play it back in the day. So I picked it up at Gamestop when they were doing the 30% off sale. I love it, but I still have yet to beat it. Somehow I never got around to playing it much (blame it on buying too many games at once). But this thread reminds me that I have it, so now i'm gonna go play it.

One thing though that bothered me...I tried to play some 2-player and the game really doesn't handle it all that well. Flickering sprites and alot of slowdown on 2-player.

I played it some times and in my personal opinion is one of the worst beatīem up games. I prefer Mighty Final Fight a lot more...

Platform: My NES...

Progress: No progress...i have started and i have finished...

Challenge: I will never connect my NES to play this game

Opinion: Me and my friend Evan are crazy about this game. Evan's band, Shikami, even did a song about it called "Downtown Nekketsu Monagatori is my Favorite Famicon Game". Words cannot express how much this game rocks.

Platform: I first played it on the NES back in the late 80's/early 90's. I now play it on NESticle on my PC.

Progress: Um... somewhere in the game...

Challenge: Maybe later...

Great game! Havent played it since I was in 5th grade which would have been like 1998 or so? I first played it in about 1996 at my babysiters. We always playe dthe old games so thats why I still played it in 1998. Wll I dont recall how far I got but I dont think I beat it. I need to buy this game!

BARF! :D

Had to do it. In all seriousness, this is indeed quite a great game. It's like Double Dragon meeting... some... RPG... thingy... well, it can only add up to excellence.

Platform: NES, and except for some dubious rom hacks, just the NES. Nothing else.

Progress: I made Simon scream "BARF" as I watched him squirm, his pitiful form writhing as he was slowly losing circulation through his collar... erm, well, I beat it. On Advanced mode, even. Booyah.

Challenge: Interesting challenge, this one. The plus side is that the money can go all into healing items, not one cent being spent on those pricey techniques. Though, I already nearly pissed my pants trying to beat it on Advanced even with the techniques... though it all became relative child's play once I grabbed a Trash Can and combined it with the Grand Slam technique. So I imagine it'll be quite the hoedown, especially when attempting to snuff the Double Bootlegs... er, "Dragon Twins."

... waitaminute, I just realized something. Shouldn't Balloon Fight pick the next game, not Scooter?
