View Full Version : HELP! Suffering from chronic DGS!! Ack!

Well, as of today, I am suffering from a severe disease only afflicting gamers and absentminded professors. This disease appears to affect my physical surroundings, making it impossible for me to find things. That's right....I am now suffering from Disappearing Game Syndrome (DGS). This semi-common affliction has reared it's ugly head in my home as of this week.

In fact, only since I bought a DGS contaminated Saturn from a garage sale has my luck fallen. With this Saturn came 4 incredibly scratched games....and I mean UNBELIEVABLY scratched. NHL Hockey, Black Fire, Galactic Attack, and Daytona USA. So scratched that the Saturn cannot only not read them, but it can barely play the audio tracks....ruined vinyl sounds better. Now this alone would not be an issue. But I promised to include the games as a package deal in a trade. When I went to pack the box today, the games were NOWHERE to be found. They had fled the scene. I searched high and low for no less than FOUR HOURS in my small 2 bedroom apartment, to no avail. Finally with hope lost, I gave up and went to go through my PC Engine inventory, only to miraculously find that my AWOL Saturn games had migrated to a small crack in my bookcase and snuck down behind my PC Engine collection! Huzzah! So I moved the bookcase and corraled my rebellious discs. Joy! Then I made a fatal mistake.

Unfortunately, I had the displeasure of testing the games. With typical teenage prowess, the discs made a fool of me, proving their rebelliousness by failing to function, one and all. Irate, I foolishly left them alone to taunt me, resting quietly on the couch. I went.....outside. When I came back in, the discs had mysteriously vanished! My eyes wild, I gazed feveredly around the apartment. They were GONE! I rushed around, checking all their normal hiding spots, but the sneaky Saturn games had vanished like a virgin on prom night!

Another hour of searching later, and I have yet to find my loathsome discs. They have evaded me yet again. My failure is complete. Please, take my cautionary tale as a word of warning. Be sure the next games YOU buy used are not infected with DGS.....or suffer my fate. :(

LOL I suffer from it every once in a while. Usually it's one of two things:

1. Dropped behind the shelf/table/bed/etc.

2. Family member/friend took it or lent it out and forgot about it.

Oh, and there's the "mom stuck it in the closet and then buried it under a mound of blankets" problem

I'd lose track of my head if it wasn't attached, but I know where the games I care about are. Lots of stuff in boxes. Now and then I don't know which box something is in, though :P

As for CD-ROM games, I've got a shelf built for VHS tapes with adjustable shelving - I've got CD-ROM games on the top shelf, and progressively lower boxes on lower shelves. Impossible for anything to slip out of sight back there.

You know what you have to do right? You have to put these games with a mind of their own on eBay. So much paranormal activity within the hobby we love. Just list them has haunted and pocessed. You'll probably sell them. Maybe say they play the sound tracks backwards or something. :evil laugh:

I use to jsut keep all my games in boxes in alphabetical order. Never had a problem with losing a game except for one time.

I usually just throw games on the floor or on tables and I sometimes find a game I forgot I bought and I'm like...whoooaaa I forgot I had that! Sometimes I buy doubles too =\.

that happend to me. When I moved here I looked through some stuff and had my tetris box for gb, my pokemon red, blue, and yellow box all for gb in a green plastic little container. I then put it away some where and cant find it still. I searched one day for like 2 hours through all my boxes everywhere. DOnt know where else to look. I looked another day for like an hour with no luck. I dont care to much but its just sad.

Well....interestingly enough, ALL my games are alphabetized and organzied and all in bookcases. Everything is very neat and tidy and I know where everything is. With 700 games I have to keep it all organized. Nonetheless, these games have managed to continue to evade me! I still have no clue where they are this morning and I MUST find them today. Curses...foiled again! </Boris>

The same thing happened to me with a comic book. I know I have it but I just don't remember where it is. Never had a problem with games since I try to leave them all in one place.

Hah, I've had this happen to me. Usually there was alcohol involved tho.

However, I have completely lost my GBA Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town cart... can't find it for the life of me. Probably fell behind my bed or something.

Its happened a few times, mostly small stuff. Lately I have been suffering SGS (stolen games syndrome) sunday nights is my hangout night with friends and sometimes friends or brothers of friends have shown up and stuff went missing. we were playing N64 and the next thing I know is my Zelda OOT Japanese Majora's mask and Mario 64 are all missing, I also had some N Power mags and a Phantasy star II gone. It was only then and I don't want those people coming around even then, but sometimes its like unwanted relatives, you have to let them come around and you just have to suck it up and protect your assets. Those were expensive games too.

I cannot count the number of times this has happened to me. Hell, I even forget where I put something only mere minutes after I set it down. I really do need to get organized, but it's a tough thing to do when you just keep bringin more and more stuff in.

I've also got the bad habit of putting discs (games and CDs) back in the wrong cases. It usually results in opening a case, seeing the wrong title, opening THAT title's case, and repeating until the disc is found.

My GBA link cable likes to get lost and then laugh at me from wherever it decides to hide. Just another reason I want one of those wireless link adaptors.

I have three spare 7800 power supplies that I can't find anywhere. Those suckers are worth around $20 each

Maybe it's not DGS syndrome, maybe you just can't remember where you put them...commonly known as CRS syndrome (Can't Remember Shit).

Either, creepy still.

The GBA carts are a bich, they're just to small! I haven't seen my Tony Hawk 2 GBA game since a couple months after it was realeased. We too are missing Tony Hawk 2, I have the box for it and everything. Also Advance Wars. And Poké´mon Gold and Crystal for GBC. We have the boxes for all those. Also, I had to buy a Used cart only Super Mario Advance (SMB2) to go in the box I have for that since I had every OTHER SMB game on the GBA. $24. Second time I bought it.

Just yesterday I bought Zelda: Link's Awakening for the third time. First time it was GB, second it was DX when it came out. But now I've lost it, so I bought it again.

*sigh*

One day I'll find all my games in a box and many will have to go on eBay since by then I'll have bought replacements of all of them. LOL
