Isn't this on the Master System? I haven't played this yet, but it sure looks familiar. :hmm:

Indeed it is a Master System game. "Cloud Master".

I have the SMS version, and I was completely surprised by how good it was. With the name "Cloud Master", and the cheesy graphics, I totally expected it to suck, but it turned out to be a well rounded, competant shooter. I haven't tried the arcade version yet, but I imagine it's at least as good as the Master System port.

Oh man.....that's embarrasing...I own the SMS version. :embarrassed:

Thought that looked familiar. I never knew it was an arcade game. I'll have to check it out later.

I'm going to extend this one another week since no one posted a review or anything.

C'mon now! I know it's summer and all, but all it takes is a few minutes of playing and a few minutes of writing!

Reminds me of Gohan on the Flying Nimbus in DBZ... Anyways, I've been playing the emulated SMS version, and with FreezeSMS they have the game info file stuff right? Well, here are some tips taken from it:

Defeating the Bosses

Round One: Mt. Gogzo - The Phoenix
If possible, use the Three-Way Shot and aim for the beak.

Round Two: The Koh River - Kappa
When fighting Kappa, aim for the red blinking spot on his head. Avoid the lightning bolts by continually moving up and down.

Round Three: The Great Wall - The Giant Buddah
When fighting the Giant Buddah, aim for the red blinking dot above his sunglasses. Try to get as close to his face as you can, while moving back and forth.

Round Four: Mt. Tai - The Dragon
If possible, use the Double Red Bullet and aim for the red spot on his head.

Round Five: The Buddah's Heaven - Shogun
To defeat Shogun, shoot at the white blinking spot on his body.

Basically, if you see a flashing spot, just shoot 'er up. ;)

Edit: Oh and btw, my high score on my first and only try was 766,600... I died twice I believe... Unlucky deaths if you ask me... LOL

If you see a slight resemblance with Gohan in DBZ, it's because both are (very) loosely based on the legend of the Monkey King.

It's too bad that people here don't seem to care much for this game, since it's an interesting, quirky shooter. Gotta love the flying bowls of ramen and mahjongg tiles... It's not an easy game to play (die anyplace after killing the phoenix and you'll see what I mean), but it's still fun. Maybe it could be considered as hardcore as, say, Ikaruga?

Anyway, Cloud Master was a personal fave of mine on the SMS...

I apologize to the club for not posting recently. We formatted our computer recently and I just got around to putting it all back in Sunday.

Cloud Master has been a long time favorite of mine. I remember back when I was ten or eleven my Christmas list was three lines long;

Nintendo Entertainment System
Wonderboy 3: The Dragons Trap
Cloud Master

I remember the first time I played the game. I got zapped by a bowl of noddles, followed by being shotdown by a wannabe-Rambo swine. I laughed so hard I thought I was gonna split a thorax. This is a marvelous example of how the merging of unusual/unique/sillyness and great gameplay make for the most memorable of gaming experiences. It wasn't until the last few years that I made the Cloud Master/DBZ connection (I tried my hardest to ignore DBZ for as long as I could). Intrigued I brought the issue to someone with much more knowledge than I when it comes to Japan. I was quite shocked when told that the origin of the lore that inspired Cloud Master/DBZ is actually Chinease - Buddist. I guess gaming drives me to learn. LOL
