View Full Version : If there were professional leagues for video games....

would you make the cut? What I mean is, are there any games that you are so good that you think you would be pro.

The only one that I am really good at is project gotham racing 2. I think if there were a league of racers for this game, I would probably be on the farm team. That is to say I am probably in the top 50.

Also, in my hayday I could probably have been a damn good amateur for Super Smash Bros. on the N64.

Dont get me wrong, I KNOW I am not the best out there, I just thought this might be a fun topic. Lets not let this turn into a bragging or "I am better than you" topic. (However, if you are good at gotham, I would love some competition.... :D )

I'm a pro at Half-Life. I have beaten clan members and so called "elite" players. I'm so good that people accuse me of using hacks LOL , which I don't use by the way. I am extremely good in Super Smash Bros. aswell. Too bad I'm not good in Super Smash Bros. Melee. :o

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark on the N64. I used to be damned good at them. But I haven't played em for a year or two.

Me Neither :(

I know a few people that could probably have given you a run for your money. I used to think I was good a goldeneye untill I played this guy that could bounce a grenade around corners and land it at my feet every time. I could never even get a shot off at him. He was also fantastic with normal guns.

I've competed in several games:

Mario vs. Dk
Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2
Excitebike 64

and several others. I just do it for fun, but in all of those, I've been an above average gamer (easily a top 50 player - as far as people that have competed in those games.. if everyone in the world that went for high scores in those games posted their scores online, I doubt I'd be anywhere near the top 50). My skills have since diminished in those games, because I rarely play them anymore, aside from Mario vs. DK, which I'm in now. If I posted my scores for that on cyberscore.net, I'd be in the top 10 or so.

I compete, have some fun, push myself and the game, and enjoy it! If I took it really seriously, then I'd probably do pretty well in whatever was thrown at me... my skills have always generally been above average as a gamer.

Aside from Mario vs. DK, the only other game I can claim to be above average at right now is Contra. I've played that enough to be able to beat it only using the gun when necessary (bosses, bases). That's just due to practice, and even at that, I'd have to run through it a few times to get warmed back up.

I'd love to see how my Tetris skills rank amongst the best of the best... (although I seriously doubt I'm "Pro" worthy for any game. My only "skill" is picking up games quicker than my buddies, so I beat them early and often :) ).

I'd say I'm easily in the top 10 players on Unreal 2 (Xbox Live). A friend of mine and I constantly get accused of using Action Replays on the game. Some of the rumors they've made up about my friend are just hilarious. They say his vehicles have wings on the side so he can ride beside and hit people, that he spawns out of the enemy base, that we fly around the level, have more reach to our weapons and have unlimited jump. It's amazing what jealousy will bring a foe to accuse you of.

There are several "professional" gaming leagues: Cyberathlete Professional League, Professional Gamers League, and Major League Gaming, Ultimate Gamers League. MLG is the only console-centric organization, however; all the others are PC/FPS.

If there was a big prize Money Puzzle Exchanger tournament, sign me up.

I'd like to see how I'd fair in some of the pro tournaments for say SFA3 or Third Strike. Too bad the SNK side of things don't see much comp play in the US :(

No, not unless the league let you have a handicap. I'd suck.

I don't know if I could go pro or not, but I used to be pretty good at Street fighter 2. I like SF2 Turbo best though. Ahh the joys of childhood.

I love gaming, sports especially. If I were a pro-gamer I would be Scott Norwood meets Bill Buckner. I choke every time.

same for me but not for Half-Life but for Counter-Strike, i stopped playing it though...

i guess i would be good enough for a FIFA 96 (PC) league, damn, i think i was never beaten in that game...

Burnout 2 and Nascar. I can't wait untill the next two come out for the X-Box. Online racing. Nobody can touch me in those two games.

I used to be pretty good at Goldeneye. I suck now.

I would also have to say that I am great at Super Mario Bros. 2 USA. I am going to tape my speed run soon.

Nope, there's not a single game I'm good enough at to go "pro". However, if there were some "100 game challenge", where I could take on other players at 100 different games spanning the entirety of electronic gaming history, then we would have ourselves a contest. 8-)

I have a varied skill. If a stack of random games for randoms systems were thrown at a group of like, 20 people I could probably be top 3. I dont have a focused skill, just an all around skill 8-)

SFA3 is pretty much dead in the US, but there's still some players here and there that could give you a good fight.

As far as SNK tourneys go, true to form, SNK players backed out of fierceslash.com's Evolution SNK tourney plans. They aren't sure if they'll have enough people coming to warrant running the SNK tourneys anymore.

Although I'm not particularly good at any one fighting game, I can do some serious domination in Halo...hopefully that'll carry over into Halo 2, and with it, the top ranking scoreboard.

Honestly, if I were the best at any game (or multiple games), I wouldn't want anybody to know (including myself). I just like to play for fun.

I could probably be pro at Unreal Tournament, although I'd probably end up on a team like the Brewers. I'm out of practice, but when I'm in shape I can beat most people and hang with the best.

Now, if I were allowed to play Buffalo every time in NHL '97, I'd be World Champion. Buffalo can not be beat in that game. LaFontaine Scores!! Again!

I would like to test my expertise on Tetris versus... human beings!
My record at the Tengen (NES) version is above 800K...
That mark make me feel above average!
Despite the videogames challenge, I'm reigning supreme at the Armchair Arcade Tetris challenge (http://www.armchairarcade.com/aamain/e107_plugins/games_menu/games.php?tetris.swf)!!!
Try it out!!!

I hate to admit it, but I'm not very good at most games....at least I don't think I am... I've beaten Chrono Trigger and Earthbound so many times that I've almost completely memorized them, though. I also beat Mega Man Network Transmission with no trouble, and I've heard many people complain about that game's difficulty.

I'd turn pro in a Micro Machines (NES) Racing League. I would be ***VERY*** surprised if I ever met someone who could consistently compete with me.

Maybe I'm just being modest, but I don't think I'm all that good at games. I don't think I'm good enough at any single game to go "pro", but then, part of that is because I have so many games now that I don't consistently play any single game. Back in the day when new games were few and far apart between, I got quite good from playing them over and over. I think I'm pretty skilled, definitely above average, as a gamer all around, but I can't think of any game that I can consistently beat everyone at. Maybe part of that is because I don't have a very competitive spirit and I've played multiplayer games so little my whole life (never really had anyone to play with until just a couple years ago). I do love a good challenge, though, and more often than not I find I have a much easier time with games than other people do (especially with RPGs). A weak difficulty is one of the biggest factors in why I dislike many games (such as Final Fantasy 7). Without a good challenge, I get bored.

It'll be interesting seeing how I do at Star Ocean 3 multiplayer. I've yet to pick up the Director's Cut (and the US version is not out yet, of course). I have a feeling my boyfriend will still be able to beat me a fair amount of the time, though. I suppose I'm probably really great at Star Ocean games in general since I'm just about always playing at least one of them. I've sure done a lot of crazy things in them that most people haven't. o_O
