This weekend I took some extra time and got my game rooms back up to snuff. Here are some pictures I took while everything was clean!

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/01_music.jpg

The rear of my upstairs game room houses my CD collection. Here I am posing with L.A. Guns, Motley Crue, Quiet Riot and Poison.

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/02_screen.jpg

Looking over the futon you can see my game shelves to the right, and my theater screen hanging on the wall. The picture looks really great in person, but shows up terrible in pictures (especially ones using a flash).

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/03_games.jpg

This is my little shelf of games that sits next to my futon. Most of my Genesis, Intellivision, and Atari games are here, as well as whatever odds and ends I've picked up recently that are waiting to be filed. All my nextgen games are inside the closet, yet to be displayed.

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/04_shelves1.jpg

The shelves on the left contain systems that are not currently hooked up (but can be in minutes). The top shelf contains all my TV joystick games and my commonly used controllers. The next shelf down contains an Atari 2600, a SNES (w/UFO copier), and two NES units (each with Advantage joysticks). The next shelf contains an Atari 5200, an Atari 800 computer, and my Odyssey II. The bottom shelf houses boxes which have no where else to sit at the moment.

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/05_shelves2.jpg

Everything on these shelves is connected and ready to go. The top shelf contains my Pelican switch box, my old PSX, and my Gamecube. The next shelf houses my PS2, XBox, and Genesis (3). The next shelf holds my Dreamcast and my Amiga CD32. The bottom shelf holds another SNES (w/Super Wildcard Copier) and my N64 (w/Z64 Copier).

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/06_table.jpg

This is my coffee table, aka the foot rest. Now hooked up (but unhooked during the photo!) are my Intellivision, Atari 2600, and Atari Stunt Cycle. In the background you can see my stereo cabinet and my beanbags.

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/07_spares.jpg

Everybody needs a collection of spare consoles and controllers -- you never know when something's going to go bad! Here are some of my spare Dreamcasts, Sega Gennies, and Atari 2600's. Santa Yoda guards this half of the computer nook.

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/08_spares.jpg

Regular Yoda guards the other half, which contains extra cables and computer odds and ends.

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/09_room.jpg

This is a picture taken from my computer nook, looking backwards.

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/10_boxes.jpg

Here is a close up shot of the boxes under my shelves -- the top box is a Duo Turbo (Genesis wireless controllers), a Dreamcast keyboard, a C64, a Sega Genesis, and a C64C (thanks Maxlords!).

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/11_arcade.jpg

This is the entrance to my second game room, the arcade. To the right you can see my arcade game collection. On the left is my air hockey table, my bar area, and two more games.

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/12_arcade2.jpg

A better shot of the left hand side of the room.

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/13_games.jpg

Here are the games on the right hand side. The orange cabinet is my MAME'd Donkey Kong Jr. Cabinet. Following that is Rampage World Tour, Street Fighter vs. Capcom, Neo Geo (dual slot), English Mark Darts, Bucky O'Hare, Neo Geo (single slot), Aerofighters, Road Riot 4WD, Heavy Barrel and finally Shinobi. The two games to my back are Rampart and Robocop. Karate Champ, X-Men (4 player), Vs. Super Mario Brothers and Vs. Excitebike haven't made it into the room yet.

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/14_bar.jpg

On the bar area I have my Neo slot machine, a microwave, and a small fridge. You can tell it's the bar area because I have a small neon sign that reads, "BAR".

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/15_misc.jpg

In the rear of the room you can see my gumball machine. On top of the loft I have a computer which shows 80's music videos, 24 hours a day (except in this picture, it was playing Aerosmith). I also have lots of 80's MP3's on the computer as well for when we're out gaming. The computer runs off of a 120 gig hard drive I bought from nesuser2.

Click HERE (http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/panorama.jpg) to see a (badly stitched) panoramic view of my games.

Very nice pics. It looks like you have a big house or you just crammed everything into rooms that look big.

hmmm, if I can rig such a device in my gameroom I'm sure I could convince the wife to let me fill it with arcade cabs.

you have my dream room dude, very very cool.

Is your arcade some sort of temporary building type of deal or what? That doesnt look like its part of the house.

D'oh, I left out a picture.

http://members.cox.net/flack/rod/building.jpg

That is the outside of the outside gameroom. It is a 16x50 (roughly) permanent building with heating and air conditioning to make both summer and winter gaming comfortable.

@PDF: Heh, the "twins" came from an auction on eBay. I got them both together for $350 via eBay a year or so ago. They are latex and unmarked with a simple wooden frame, so I assume they were home made and not licensed. My plan was to sell the Santa one around Christmas time, but they both grew on me.

@Mario: No, I never have energy problems. The only time I've kicked a breaker outside is when I had every single game running and had the pool filter running at the same time off the same circuit.

@den68: The computer which runs videos was originally supposed to look like a jukebox. Unfortunately it turns out that broken jukeboxes are really hard to find, as working ones are worth a lot of money. I've given up on finding a broken one (I was just going to stick the PC inside it, kind of like a MAME Jukebox (well, an MP3 Jukebox) and am planning to someday build one. The problem is, what I can do with wood and rope lights doesn't much resemble the jukebox in my head. We'll see what happens. To date I have about 60 gig of videos on there, at roughly 50 meg per video that's about 120 different 80's music videos in rotation.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone!

Funny, when I looked at that first photo and saw all those CDs I thought "those couldn't possibly all be games". Then I looked closer and thought (I swear) "they're probably a bunch of Poison CDs". Then I looked at the CDs in your hand to see if those were games...and one of them is a Poison CD! LOL

argh. we really need to kick our roommate out. my fiancee and i keep chanting "game room, game room, game room..." everytime we walk by and he's not there... LOL

wouldn't be as grand as those i'm afraid, but it's a pretty tiny room. i think we could stuff an entertainment center for the MD/genesis and N64 in there as well as an old ms. pac man machine or something. :D

There's nothing sad about a game room with any arcade cabs in it.

That's pretty cool. My wife has proposed something not unlike that outbuilding for my game room/office too...but then she starts talking about putting it next to the barn and keeping tack and saddles and veterinary supplies in it too...and suddenly, next thing you know, my game room is back in the main house. LOL

Allow me to make a comment.

HOLY FUCK!!!

That is extremely nice. Very cozy looking and extrememly organized. God I wish my stuff was that organized. And the arcade room........and the arcade room....jesus, you could open up your own damn arcade! Bar, air hockey, arcade madness.......nice nice job with all those cabs you collected, very impressive.

Looking at these pictures, I could think of nothing else besides how expensive it would be to own that much real estate here in Southern California. Over half a million I expect.

Our two-bedroom apartment is already more than we can really afford, and there's no way you could fit even a quarter of that stuff in the second bedroom, let alone organize it so well. It's currently overflowing with stuff, and that's with half my collection packed up (and no arcade cabs either). :(

Damn, I need to move to a more affordable area...

Oh yeah... congrats on the game rooms! :)

Sweet! I'm really into the organized, professional looking shelving for all your cds (which i guess is music, games, etc). Did you build that shelf yourself?

They look better in the pictures than they do in person. All they are made of is cheap wood from Lowe's, painted flat black and mounted to the wall. I think the entire unit cost me $30 to make and took an hour or so to assemble (the longest part was painting).

I am the eternal documenter.

Link to shelf building: http://68.12.156.214:533/temp/shelves

As far as the games go, I haven't paid more than $225 for any of them.

And CMOSFM, like I said, if anyone is ever in the area, we southerners are always willing to buy a beer and play a game with a fellow gamer!

Oh and Smashy, I had my wires crossed. Of course the full title is Capcom's Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter.

HEY FLACK, AWESOME PICS!!!!
I absolutely love your arcade room!

By the way, I thought I recognized those vd's you were holding up in your first picture. I just bought the same ones -Poison, Motley Crue, and Quiet Riot. As well as Motley Cru's + Poison's greatest hits cd's too. I guess you must be an 80's music fan, as well as I am a HUGE 80's music fanatic!
I also love how that monitor in your arcade room plays 80's videos all day! You mean you leave it running all day + night? AWESOME!
By the way, where did you get all of the videos, how many do you have, and I am guessing they are downloaded on your computer?

I actually killed two birds with one stone with that picture. In might night class, we are currently writing term papers. They had different categories you could choose, so I chose "music appreciation". You had to choose a genre to write about, and I wanted to be original so I picked "80's Hair Metal". Part of the paper involved taking a couple of pictures to back up your claims, so that was a picture of my music collection and me holding four hair metal cd's. The fourth one is L.A. Guns. Good job naming the other three!

Most of the videos I originally got came from alt.binaries.music.video and are in mpg format. I just started capturing my own videos using a TV capture card and my old Headbanger's Ball tapes.

Very awesome :hail:

I just painted my spare room NES grey (the bottom postion of the 8-bit nes)
and the trim black. I am going to pick up either red or black outlet covers so I can make the room look like an 8 bit nes toaster ;)

But now my roomy (brother) wants to move his girlfriend and kid (not my brothers) in and he asked me if he can use the spare room. Dude !!! I am pissed off right now.

I had such great plans for my room of doom :( I will have to take some pictures of the paint and details when I finish this week. Sounds like I will finish right before the pack moves in :o

I also want to put in a Nintendo ceiling fan . Does anybody have one for sale or know where I can get one ?

Sorry to sidetrack the thread Flack...... Love the projection screen and the Yoda guard LOL

But seriously , I have gotten so many good ideas from everybody here....
I am glad you like my idea. Now I just need to find some good bookcases that are black or have a brushed aluminum look.

The controllers are always there, but to be quite honest usually the cords aren't always wrapped up. Since it's so close, quite often I just put the controller over there, still hooked up.

One thing I've discovered about cables is that they look better in person than in pictures. Like my smaller shelves ... in person you don't even notice all the wires hanging behind them (partly because the room is so dark). In the pictures though, they stand out like a sore thumb!

If you get VH1 Classic check out their program called Metal Mania. It's like watching the original Headbanger's Ball. Most of their videos are from the 80's and they show a lot of hair bands. :)
