I think this thread would be the most meaningful if everybody used the DP categories as 1 entry. Ie, 2600 can contain heavy sixers, 4 switch woody, darth vaders, coleco gemini, etc. But no matter how many 2600 systems you own, they all count as 1 under the DP guide and therefore count as 1 here.

At least that's how I tried to do mine.

I would say that my unique systems I would catagotise by having games that work only on that system and diffrent systems that are backward compatible, so the likes of master system 1 and master system 2 would not be unique however a game boy and a game boy colour would be unique as the earlier could not play the laters specific games to full features.

so
1. 3D0
2. CBM CD32
3. 2600
4. 5200
5. Atari Lynx
6. Philips CDI
7. NES
8. Super Nintendo
9. Nintendo 64
10. Gamecube
11. Gameboy
12. Gameboy colour
13. Gameboy advance

so not quite in the 40+ uniques..

actually I didnt realise I had this much crap..I need to offload all this !!!

I still say revisions don't count as separate systems. The Genesis 1, 2, and 3 do not count as three systems. Nor do the TurboDuo and the TurboCD, etc... the SNES 1 and 2...

I also say that computers, things designed to be computers and not specifically gaming systems, don't count. That would be the TRS, TI99, C64, Atari computer line, etc.

lurpak

but the OPs question didnt say gaming systems, he said systems ?

so surely this would include computer systems, especialy since the principle product of these systems were games, the likes of amiga's although caperble were games machines principly.
if you take the example that out of what, 100,000 software titles for an amiga 99% of them would be games, wheras the 60 or so available for the odyssey2 (no doubt classed a gaming system), 2 programming, 6-7 educational making it only 85% a gaming system...far less than the amiga, Ti99, etc.

taking the other extreem, are todays consoles games machine or multi-media devices, most play films, music, internet communications, gaming is just one facet of thier use the same as computers of thier day.
An XBOX is principaly a games PC.

(all the above figures were 99% inacurate)..but a realistic guess.

I agree with the variations on principly the same unit though
eg..megadrive 1 & 2, playstaion, psone etc.

you have to allow for specific games backward compatiblity though, like playing playstationstandard games on a playstation 2
you couldnt rule out a playstationif you had an PS2 as well, since it cant play PS2 games.

But if you use the categories in the DP guides, that levels the playing field for all involved. I don't see the point in counting things like Amigas, Atari PCs, or even regular PCs (my list goes up a bit if I do). But the C64, Vic20, TI99, etc are all listed in the dp guides as systems, so they should be counted.

I do agree on the revisions though. If I did that, I'd have about 10 lines for just gameboys!! LOL

old cartridge systems like c64 and TI 99 do count.

I am still not sure if I can include my gameaxe, nomad and turbo express

I just bought a Nintendo DS and a PSP so I am getting close to 50 :)

I'm kickstarting this old thread again to list mine. I'm probably forgetting one or two. And I'm not putting computers in, since those blur the line a bit. Even though a lot of them were cartridge based, and most of them I only bought to play games on, I still don't feel right about adding them on. Or dedicated consoles like pong machines.

I might have gone a bit overboard listing the TurboGrafx-16 and the TurboDuo, but I've always thought that the Duo was a technological upgrade to the original TurboGrafx-16, and not just an all-in-one CD console unit. There are Super CD games that can't be played on a TurboGrafx-16 CD-ROM drive, after all. That's what I'm assuming, of course, since I bought my TurboDuo bare and I still don't have the bits to make it work. :) And I counted the Genesis, the Sega CD, and the 32X as different machines, considering that hardware-wise they are different, even though they're also dependent upon each other.

And for the record, I absolutely hate when people list revisions of the same hardware as different machines. All Atari 2600 console variations only count as one, etc.

I think they should be listed as they are advertised. For example, the Game Boy and Game Boy Pocket were advertised as two seperate systems, and they were radically different in terms of hardware, but the heavy sixer, light sixer, and CX2600-A werent, albeit asthetically.

I'll count anything that plays a unique format of games, so this includes cd add-ons such as Sega CD or devices such as 32X:

1. Channel F
2. RCA Studio II
3. Atari 2600
4. Bally Professional Arcade
5. Odyssey 2
6. Intellivision

43. Xbox
44. PSP
45. Nintendo DS
46. Playstation 3
47. Xbox 360
48. Wii

and these are also unique formats so I don't know whether to count them as separate or not:

49. Starpath Supercharger (plays Atari 2600 cassette tape format games)

and then 50 if you count non-working systems. I have a LaserActive with the Sega Module which would have worked for MegaLD games, but the power shorted out on it while I was playing Sonic 3D Blast for Genesis on it, and it needs to have its power supply replaced. I didn't have any LaserDisc games for it yet anyway.

Yeah I have a Nomad too, but the game format isn't any different so I wouldn't count it.

and these are also unique formats so I don't know whether to count them as separate or not:

I would never count the Starpath/Arcadia Supercharger as a system. However, I certainly would count broken systems. As Cartman would say, "Why the F*$#% not?" :)

I'll count anything that plays a unique format of games, so this includes cd add-ons such as Sega CD or devices such as 32X:

1. Channel F
2. RCA Studio II
3. Atari 2600
4. Bally Professional Arcade
5. Odyssey 2
6. Intellivision
7. Microvision
8. Vectrex
9. Arcadia 2001
10. Atari 5200
11. Colecovision
12. Nintendo Entertainment System
13. Atari 7800
14. Sega Master System
15. Sega Genesis
16. TurboGrafx-16
17. Game Boy
18. Neo Geo AES
19. Super Nintendo
20. Game Gear
21. Lynx
22. Supervision
23. TurboDuo
24. CD-i
25. 3DO
26. Jaguar
27. Jaguar CD
28. Sega CD
29. Sega 32X
30. Neo Geo CD
31. Playstation
32. Saturn
33. Nintendo 64
35. Virtual Boy
36. Game Boy Color
37. Neo Geo Pocket Color
38. Tiger Game Com
39. Dreamcast
40. Game Boy Advance
41. Playstation 2
42. Gamecube
43. Xbox
44. PSP
45. Nintendo DS

Yeah I have a Nomad too, but the game format isn't any different so I wouldn't count it.

so just like the Supercharger, the Aladdin Deck Enhancer for NES which allows a special format of games doesn't count as a system like 32X and Sega CD as it doesn't have it's own AC Adapter... I have it too now.

49. Atari 8-bit (mine's an XEGS)
50. Commodore VIC-20
51. Commodore 64

All I really need for US released systems now is an Amiga and some really bizarre stuff with hardly any games for them I guess.

Let's whip it out and measure the console penis! LOL

02) NES Toaster(s), NES Topper
03) TG16
04) PC-E Duo
05) Genny 1 & 3 (Guess I take a hit for going with the PBC for SMS. If not add 1 at the end.)
06) SegaCD 1
07) Neo Geo AES
08) Nomad
09) SNES
10) PS1, PSOne
11) Saturn 1(s), 2(s)
12) N64
13) DC
14) PS2 Slim(s)
15) Xbox(s)
16) GC
17) Wii
18) GBA, GBA SP(s), Micro(s)
19) DS, DSLite(s), DSi, DSiXL
20) NGPC
21) PSP 2000

Wanting to add...

22) Vectrex
23) 360 (eventually)
24) PS3 (I can wait a while)
25) Turbo Express
26) AV Famicom

Even if I had all I wanted, 40 is quite a bit off for me. LOL

It'd be nice if people actually remembered that, instead of listing every hardware variation of the Atari 2600 or Genesis. Or plug-and-plays with no removable media, like the Flashbacks or Pongs.

Let's see what I can add to this thread....

1) Atari VCS
2) Atari 5200
3) Atari 7800
4) Atari Jaguar
5) Atari Lynx
6) Atari Video Pinball
7) Sony Playstation
8) Sony Playstation 2
9) Sega Master System
10) Sega Genesis
11) Sega Genesis 2 *
12) Sega CD
13) Sega 32X
14) Sega Game Gear
15) Sega Saturn
16) Sega Dreamcast
17) Nintendo Entertainment System
18) Super Nintendo Entertainment System
19) Nintendo Gamecube
20) Nintendo Gameboy Pocket
21) Nintendo Gameboy Advance
22) Nintendo Gameboy Advance eReader *
23) Nintendo Gameboy Player (for Gamecube) *
24) Magnavox Odyssey2
25) Mattel Intellivision
26) Mattel Intellivision Computer Keyboard *
27) Mattel Intellivision Intellivoice *
28) Colecovision
29) Vectrex
30) Microsoft XBox
31) Channel F
32) Pocket NeoGeo
33) NEC TurboGrafx

* - unsure whether this should be counted

Also Not sure whether to include:
* Starpath Supercharger
* Microvision - broken
* Atari Flashback2
* dedicated handhelds
* dedicated 'Plug & Play's
* duplicates - multiple physical revisions, CV 2600 adapter, 5200 2600 adapter, etc...

What to count raises questions - for example, what would be the difference between an Atari Video Pinball, that I'd think ought to qualify, and an Elmo Plug and Play that I think is nothing but cheesy and would disqualify on first reaction? Going by level of quality seems like a terribly subjective way to categorize things.

Similarly, if the 32x counts, so should the Starpath Supercharger.

In any case, I'm far from 50 consoles myself, as evidenced by the above list. And really, aside from the current-gen consoles, the only item I can think of that I wish I had is a Bally Astrocade.

EDIT: FORGOT a Sega Pico (broken).

All of you with such extensive collections what is the purpose other then to have that many or did you really just want a massive amount? I can't think of 40 systems i want to have at this point. I am at only 10 systems but i have them all connected to my tv and the hardest part is choosing what to play because i like them all...

Steve W

If I come across a system in the wild that's dirt cheap, I'll pick it up. Do I need an Action Max? No, definitely not. But is it nice to know I have one, from a collector's standpoint? Sure. And a lot of these consoles have some decent games on them. Not all, of course (yes RCA Studio II, I'm looking at you) but they will inevitably have something on the system that warrants owning it.

Even being liberal, I don't make it.

1. 7800
2. 2600
3. Nintendo
4. Super Nintendo
5. Nintendo 64
6. GameCube
7. Wii
8. Game Boy
9. Game Boy Color
10. Game Boy Advance
11. Nintendo DS
12. PC Engine
13. PC Engine CD
14. Master System
15. Genesis
16. Sega CD
17. 32X
18. Saturn
19. Dreamcast
20. Game Gear
21. Xbox
22. PlayStation
23. PlayStation 2
24. Neo Geo CD
25. Neo Geo Pocket Color
26. Ouya
27. IBM Windows machine
28. Android device

If we counted duplicates, I would be over 30 (Super Famicom, second Genesis, another Game Boy Advance, another Game Boy Color), but I don't quite measure up. I'm not sure I want a grand total of 40. All I want now is a Colecovision (29), 360 (30), PS3 (31), Commodore 64 (32), Amiga (33), PSP (34), 3DS (35), Lynx, (36), and I guess the INTY Flashback (37?), so yeah, I don't think I will make it to the 40+ club.
