Ok..my friend has a Sega Saturn that he just got, and it's having problems reading about half of his games. It's an original model, oval buttons, and it has new batteries. His games aren't scratched up, they're just not loading at all. He's getting disc read errors, as well as discs simply not being detected by the system.

What I think is wrong with it is the intensity of the laser. I've heard of this happening with Saturns but I've never seen it. Anyway, he's worried that the adjustment either won't help or will wear out his lens faster. I haven't been able to find much on the net to reference to this problem, and we're also not sure how far to turn the knob or which direction once we get the Saturn open. Does anyone know more about this problem or any other possible solutions? Is anyone famliar with the laser adjustment?

Thanks for any help!

I've heard stories about a dieing CD systems and the Disc System Error. What it might be is a weak magnet. I've heard stories of people taking everyday household fringe magnets and saving the console itself! Don't ask me how they do it. I just blame magic, it makes more sense.

Do whatever you want.. A new Saturn costs $20-30.00 US.

If it doesn't work then you can't make it worse.

Be careful of those "fringe magnets". They live on the edge...
