You know, there are a lot of people saying videogame violence leads to crime in the real world, and some were speculating the DC area sniper might have been an example. Of course the game GTA3 was mentioned among others.
Now that the sniper has been caught, we know for sure that he spent most days playing a certain game for hours, a violent 2-d war simulator:

Best way to explain this is the words of penny-arcade. Sometimes I don't beieve in what they talk about but this time, I see some reason in there heads.

Chess?!?! :o That game is responsible for the decline of youth values in this country! They're all sitting around, playing that so-called "game," when they should be outdoors playing "army men" or "cops and robbers." Bang-bang! I got you! Oh what fun!

They should be playing "Monopoly," which teaches wholesome economic values. Or "Risk," which stresses global education.

We should ask schools to disband these violent Chess Clubs before more kids take up the violent banner of "war" being taught by a GAME!

What about the game of Life or Sorry?

Or Headache, which encouraged you to jump on your opponent long before Super Mario Bros. did...

What about Battleship, which teaches us to fire blindly until you hit something.
