so i snagged this fellah off ebay last week against my better judgement, and as expected, despite the sellers "like new!" claims, the picture hides the goo within. the reset button is jammed down into place, and the power switch is so full of crud it barely moves. I haven't even tried to plug it in yet, as i don't want my carts in here, because the inside is full of something else (dunno, rat droppings stuck to the inside of the case), so i need to get it open...

where can i get the security bits, and any suggestions? i'm half tempted just to get another nice black N64, and clean & swap the case...

of course the matching orange analog controller is trashed stick-wise...

I wouldn't want to swap out the cases, including if you want to modify the N64 later on in life. The motherboard on the translucent 64's are different and allow overclocking and stuff. I'd personally go with the bit set, that's what i do. Give it a good cleaning and you'll be happy you went with the bit set. Besides, when you go with the bit set, you can use them to open up your Nintendo carts and other Nintendo systems. So it's kinda win win if ya go that way in my opinion.
