View Full Version : Ancient Systems, New TV question

I saw another post on the general topic, and it reminded me of a problem I've had for some time now.

I have a few older systems, like the Odyssey 2. I have a coax input in the back of the TV, and the newer inputs in the front (the red, white, and yellow inputs. I forget what they're called)

As I'm way too lazy to reach in the back of my TV (and don't get me started about trying to hook up those old RF units), I rarely use the older systems anymore.

Basically, what I'm looking for is this. Some thingamabob that has a coax input and the newer outputs. I've seen stuff that goes the other way, but nothing quite like this.

I was wondering if anyone had or had heard of such a device. You'd think there'd be SOME market for it.

That device you speak of is called a demodulator. What it does is it takes an RF signal (for example an old video game system) and demodulates (hence the name) the RF signal into A/V signals suitable for the A/V jacks on the front of your TV. Don't expect to get 'em cheap though, they usually cost more than $50.

Er, I think not.

I got one of mine for $29.95 at Circut City, and there are people selling RCA ones on eBay for like $12. I got my second from eBay, and while it came in a plain cardboard box, it has worked like a charm for over three years now.

Blackjax, are you sure you're not thinking of a modulator? modulators are cheap because they just convert the seperate signals into one rf signal, but a demodulator has to de-convert the signal from a single current into seperate ones and is expensive, I've never seen one for under 100 USD...and Circuit city doesn't even sell demodulators. I'd love for you to prove me wrong though since 29.95 is one hellova deal. If you could give me a link I'd greatly appreciate it.

Oh really? Interesting, I might get one for my Commodore 1702...

Thanks for the info guys. It took me forever, but I found one (I hope) on Ebay and am anxiously awaiting it.

If anyone's interested, Apolloboy is right. They cost about $100.00. Not many places carry them. One called the Channel X appeared to be one of the best.

Oh - and try Ebay. That same demodulator wound up costing me $25.00. I hope.

Here's another idea. Get another coax cable and a two way splitter. Run your cable into the two way splitter. Run one wire into your television. Put the splitter where you can easily get to it. On the second connector on the splitter, get one of those coax/rf adapters. You can get both a splitter and an adapter for under $20 for sure.
