how much is a sega cd system, with all hookupsm, but no box or manual worth? i might buy one that works on a genesis model 2 for $30 shipped. if anyone has one cheaper than that for sale, please let me know.

Is it a side by side or piggyback? I'm assuming a side by side. Make sure that it has the add-on rail so it can fit a Model 1.
Hmm.. but $30 for a nice side by side is a better deal then you can usually get. (online), if it works then go for it. I'd ask around locally with dealers, many have a few they don't drag out to flee markets or tradeshows. Probably pick one up for $20 if you got the right local connections

Also make sure the CD system comes with the metal RF plate that goes to the bottom of the Genesis model (not really needed but it'd help keep the FCC from breaking down your door ). And that it comes with the power supply. Finally if it's the older front loading system, make sure it works as I've seen many such model with non working tray.
I'm guessing yours is the later side loading model as you mentioned it "works" with Genesis 2.
I have a couple, one in use and one loose system that I got for a paltry $2. No power supply or rf plate.

I have them both but I love my piggyback.. I got it mint for $30 with a system 1 Genesis and all the crap w/ one controller from a Pawn in some backwoods town about 20 minutes away. There is nothing more 16 bit retro then an old style System 1 on a piggyback CD..
If you don't care to play any of the sega CD games you could wait and get the same unit for less or a boxed system for the same.. but for an impulse purchase $30 is cheap for a Sega CD.
Also when i talk Sega CD pricing I'm talking Ready to play, all included: Genesis system, CD unit, cords, PSU's, Controllers... You should always end up with a Genesis sytem in the deal..
