1) Having to pay to play games, IE FInal Fantasy XI, World of Warcraft
2) Games that I look forward to play for months only to try and find out how much it sucks
3) Fanboys
4) No new NeoGeo Pocket games and never will be
5) GameStop having such crappy prices

1. Games that would run the dreamcast, but aren't released for it (.hack)
2. Ports of DC games that are cheaper for other systems (ikaruga $20, dc import is still 50!!!!)
3. Gamestop or EB people who make rude comments because I buy dreamcast stuff.
4. Ports of games that have to be imported to play on the DC because they're exclusive to another system in the US (Shenmue 2)
5. People who think the dreamcast is really old, or that it's part of the ps1 generation. It was made to compete w/ the ps2 damn it!!! The saturn competed with the ps1.

I hate alot about some games.....I may love games, but that doesnt mean I will be blind to things I find annoying.

RPGs
1.RPGs where the only thing between one part of the story and the next is 4 hours and 12 level ups.

2.RPGs where the story is easy to predict and all the main story archs are revealed in the first hour of the game.

3.RPGs that require you pick up a useless item in the first 5 minutes of the game to only use it in the last 5 minutes. Its realy annoying when said item is unobtainable after that said first 5 minutes.

4.Sequals to RPGs that feature nothing from the previous game beyond the names of the spells.

5.RPGs with useless spells that are as useless when your maxed as they are when you get them.

Companies and the rest....
1.Sony-I personaly belive they are single handed killing the gaming market. From square to Sega they have hurt a number of good companies.

2.EA-I know they make decent games, I do. I dispise their aproach to games though.

3.The death of the Dreamcast. It was a wonderfull machine which was ignored because many would rather wait for the PS2. A great system with great launch titles passed over for something thats best launch feature was the ability to play PS1 games.

4.Sega of America-North America was the top buyer of the DC system and yet it was the first to be droped of the 3. While I understand their reasons, at the very least they could have continued to release the games they had sold pre-orders for.

5.Gamers who refuse to acknoledge inovation in older systems. So many forget what systems originaly featured reverse compatability and so many other features.

sorry, very long post.....

O_OThank you. You said what I wanted to. Anyone who doesn't see Pikmin as genius needs to get a clue. It may be a super ultra Lemmings, but it's god damn hell fun as all get out. :D

"hardcore" gamers who bash the xbox because of halo...umm, are ninja gaiden, gunvalkyrie, jet set radio, panzer dragoon orta, metal slug 3-5, guilty gear X2, outrun 2, DOA, soul calibur 2, a slew of 2D capcom and SNK fighers, etc....

is the best arcadey library since the dreamcast not good enough for you? LOL

grotesque over/underpraise of halo...it's honestly one of the best things i've seen come out of the west in years. it has a very "eastern" attention to detail/production value, polish, and balance, while eschewing the eastern tendency to use non-interaction to "immerse" the player in the story. the game is the cutscene. the AI is incredibly challenging and lifelike on higher difficulty levels, but never cheesy.

yes, it is not without it's flaws (enemy/interior section repetition, ugh), but it's not the anti-christ of gaming.

Oh and the lovely Player's Choice, Greatest Hits, Platinum Hits... Why ruin a perfectly good box with ugly little banners and ribbons, should have put a sticker on a shrink-wrap or something or a pack-in little reminder card that this game... is good.

2. People who are close minded to anything that doesn't have a mature rating on it- I actually got into an argument the other day with this guy that I know. We were talking about games and I asked if he had ever played Super Mario Sunshine on the Gamecube. He hadn't so I told him what it was about and how it is one of the funnest game I had ever played. He went off on how games like that are "gay" (what he actually said) and how people who play games that are kid-like are gay. I said that he should at least play it before he judges it. He refused and said that it was gay. He then went off on how he loves Devil May Cry 2. So, I gave up and decided that he was another mainstream gamer that only likes games with lots of blood and violence.

Holy shit, I have arguments with people like this all the time!! I can't stand it when those fuckers make fun of me for playing games like Mario, Sonic, DK64, etc. I could give a shit about them actually making fun of me and it makes me laugh, but what bugs me is when they call the games childish and only kids play them. And then they ALWAYS usually ask me if I am gay??

THIS IS SO TRUE. That's why when I get my GC games, I only buy the original versions of them.

The PS2 ones are absolutely horrible, have the case is red, xbox looks cheap, and Gamecube is an annoying bright yellow that you can't miss.

1. The ICO overratism (???) - 'oh hey guyz this game is so underrated so we'll print five articles about it every issue. '
2. Gran Turismo. ok, sure.
3. Acclaim. Can't you bankrupt already?
4. NEW EA SPORTS GAME DELUXE VERSION 2.7000 ALPHA OMEGA 20068 WITH MORE MUSCLES @_@ @_@ @_@ (this can also be said about capcom games)
5. eh...that's it. that felt good.

I have a few

1) Video game "award shows" on cable TV. Who gives a damn? Plus they are so freaking biased. for example the MTV ones:

Best video game of the year award nominees:

Tony Hawk Generic Skateboarding 01

Madden-football-game-that-will-be-worth-less-than-25-cents-in-6-months

Random_american_adventure_mascot_game (Jak / sly cooper / blinx / crash
bandicoot ect ect)

Random_Basketball_game

Hrm no RPGs or Japanese games.... I wonder why... Oh yea, the Award Show is sponsored by EA games and subsidiaries
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) The current trend of video game popularity. Yea I'm elitist blah blah blah, but seeing advertisments in games is getting lame. Pretty soon games will have commericals, just like movies in the theatres do now.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3) Video game TV shows. Talk about tools
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4) Classic gaming shirts being printed by Hot Topic (a.k.a Goth Gap). How fun it is to see 5 people walking down the hall with nintendo controllers on their shirts, yet when I talk to them none of them have played the NES.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5) EA. I've read an interview with one of their bigwigs who pretty much said "yes we make mediocre games, but we make mediore games better than anyone else". So true.

1. Those Atari 5200 Controllers. Still traumatized by them to this day. Once in awhile I break out the 5200 and trackball and play Centipede or Missile Command, that's it. Does anyone sell good, sturdy, different 5200 controllers yet?

2. Narrow-mindedness in gamers. Fanboy-ism, Console only types, etc. I've always gone where the great and innovative games are regardless of who makes them in what format for what machine.

3. Cheaters/Exploiters/Immature players in online gaming.

4. Short Mario-Kart tracks. I want a cross-country Mario Kart. I want a race that takes a few hours to complete. Maybe a Mario Kart racing RPG.

5. The Everquest levelling treadmill model of MMORPGs. If you are creating a virtual world, you need more than a character development model, you need something for your characters to do once they are there. Ultima Online is a good example of a game that breaks that model. I've been playing it for almost 7 years and am still not bored.

1. Fanboys

2. Anti-fanboys, who make it their life's work to trash something, regardless of any positive aspects it may have or any logic refuting their own ignorant statements

3. People who talk about Halo (1 or 2) or Final Fantasy like it's the second coming of Christ (strikes me as being a bit above and beyond standard fanboy fanaticism.

4. Censorship in games to appease people who don't play them anyway.

5. PC games getting released prematurely then going up to version 2.038b before they fix the goddam disappearing key bug that made the game unplayable in the first place.

1) 2D franchises made into 3d
2) Games with a monthly fee
3) Yearly sports titles with no real imagination.
4) Microsoft - but I hated them long before the Xbox. I did work for Apple for 2 1/2 years and all :)
5) That I can no longer find anything older then N64 titles at all of my local game stores.
6) That everything that comes out has been done before. Recent exception - katamari damacy
7) The caracter relative controls in Resident Evil
8) That my beloved Nintendo has had tough times recently, focusing too often on gimicks instead of gameplay. Why on earth does the DS have 2 screens? also, gameboy-gamecube connectivity.
9) That the last guy in Super punchout is kicking my butt

5, asshole who think they're know it all( arcade)/store clerk( bestbuy/futureshop) also pushy sales person
6, good games with shitty sequel
7. game with lack of save points and stupid save system(also ones that force you to watch the movie/cut scene over and over again>you keeping dying cause the save point is after the boss fight<( prince of persia)

5 things that bug me about gaming, huh?

1) Unreasonably long game delays. One reason why I dumped my once much-beloved XboX.

2) Not being able to reverse up/down and left/right camera axis.

3) Having to endure onslaughts of fad/wannabe/copycat games (GTA or FPS clones eg.)

4) The death of the N64....or the death of cart-based systems in general.

5) My biggest one. When you find a sought-after title in the wild.....and it's had the shit beat out of it. I'm sick and tired of looking at scratched and fingerprinted discs. WHY OH WHY CAN'T PEOPLE TAKE CARE OF THEIR SOFTWARE!??!?!?

In no particular order:

1. Voice overs in games that don't let you turn on subtitles.

2. Horrible movie games that have no effort put into them since the hype of the movie will sell the game.

3. Games where no effort was put into the single player/offline mode.

4. Dual Analog FPS (I just can't seem to get the hang of it)

5. When games have a "M 17+" rating but parents still think it's okay for thier kids... then complain about it.

1. Releasing next gen consoles too early-I've read enough of the development costs of next-gen games, and it may be bye-bye indie puplishers. :(

2. Bad Camera angles. I know they can't be perfect on 3-d games, but did the dev team and beta testers play the 1st Blinx and think "well, thats as good as it's going to get"?

3. the growing use and overuse of the word "fanboy" You're either a sheep or your not. If you by the next gen console because of the brand only, gamers will call you a fanboy. But that company you are worshipping most likely considers you a sheep who will buy whatever they tell you to. Every company makes duds and killer appz/hardware alike-none of them are saints or above criticism.

4. same as my #1. But large development teams and big budgets seem to have put the industry into "cookie cutter" mode. People decry originality in modern games. But when a company appropriates a couple dozen designers and tens of millions of dollars towards the development of a game, they tend to take less risks. Although maybe someone will come out with a killer SDK for their console and bring back the small team indie developers.

5. not enough handheld-to-TV products. This is just personal. But it would be nice to see a Universal controller w/ all the Mr. Do's and Ladybug etc. As well as many other great games no one can play unless they own the upright or play it illegally.

Ooh, it's a chance to make people angry..... ;)

1) Fanboys.
2) Anti-fanboys.
3) People who accuse people of being either 1 or 2 (guilty as charged).
4) The need to rate, censor, lop, chop, or otherwise impede games in the US because of people who don't even play games.
5) The prejudiced attitudes of people in the gaming community against those in other segments of the community, regardless of how dense, rude, uninformed, etc. either group is.

1. sports games for the yet to be mentioned reason 90% of all unsold older titles clutter shops and depress me.
2. almost every platformer after the end of the 16bit era. the entire concept of using technology to make ultra-realistic transitions from "game" to "reality" for the kind of gameplay that used to jump-start the entire industry.
3. america's sorry forumla for editing material out of games to meet some non-exist social standard. PUT MY NAZIS BACK IN RING OF RED!
4. older hardware being more expensive when it was common in its hayday.
5. first person shooters are getting kind of bloated...jeez.
6. world war games that don't let you play "enemy" sides.
7. versus fighters. NO ONE CARES ANYMORE.
8. post-GTA3 complex. the game isn't even "open-ended", stfu.
9. sex appeal in games, especially advertisements. this is a bad stereotype of gamers as a whole to the non-playing people of the world.
10. people making cameos in video games who never played them prior to the advertisement it could bring them by being in one.
11. children's games that are so unplayable due to sappyness and sloppy programming.
12. TOO MANY CONSOLES AT ONCE.

#1. the full blown effort from some companies to kill the current-gen systems FAR TO EARLY IN THEIR LIFE-CYCLE. Im looking straight at you Microsoft  THE ONE REASON I sold my Xbox and all of the games I had so diligently collected for it.
#2.The total disrespect that GAMECUBE and Nintendo :hail: gets from almost every "casual" gamer ive ever talked too and by the industry as a whole. Its a great peice of hardware man well built by IBM and great graphics was I the only one NOT surprised at how excellent RE4 looked on GC? O_O Ive got to get another one I miss my GC :(
#3. How well San Andreas sold  I mean WTF? I have to admit I really like the GTA series until this one in Fact part 3 is one of my all time favs but I guess Im the only one that thought San Andreas was just another over blown GANGSTA game that is totally fuc%#@ up the kids morals these days. man now I do sound like and old f%&*^ ROFL
#4.Sonys inability to make long-lasting systems (although my current PS2 online kit version has had no Problems SO FAR)
#5.EA becoming the 5th riech ALL HAIL THE NEW DICTATOR EA :frustrated:

2. Lack of good rpg storylines lately, 2 much focus on graphics..
3. ESPN sports
4. Frozen XBOX [problem solved.. xbox sold]
5. Girls who say they are into games.. then get to your apt and point at your ps2 saying "My brother has a super xbox like that.. lets play it.. do you have mario? I love that game".. I mean I dont lie to her and say that I like The OC, Opera and Scrapbooking.. Although I am temped to watch The OC with her and ask when Dr. Phil is going to break up with the main character...

1. WW2 and Gulf War FPS games. Enough already. Where's my Western shooter? (As cool as it was, Red Dead Revolver doesn't count)

2. Develpers' lame support for PS2's online services and HD. There's so much untapped potential just sitting there. Why don't game companies exploit it more?

3. Capcom, I love Street Fighter as much as the next guy, but cripes; stop rehashing sprites!

4. Not enough quirky Japanese games released State-side, IMO.

5. Not enough shmups either.

1. I don't like it that it isn't possible to save anywhere in alot of the newer games. Or at least they could add more save points. Maybe I'm getting old but I feel really stressed out when I can't save for more than fifteen minutes. Especially when I don't have the time to play for hours it's important to be able to save a lot.

2. + 3. First-person-view and 3D!!! Why do the new Metroid games to be FPW?! Zelda in 3D?! Nintendo really lost it with me after seeing their new games. I mean Zelda LTTP was perfect, the newer parts on the N64 were just annyoing the me and I don't even think about getting a Game Cube... Call me old fashioned but I'm not into FPW and I prefere my Zelda or Mario games in 2D.

4. Multiplayer: Don't get me wrong, multiplayer can be a good thing but I don't see how you make games like Zelda - Four Swords or Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles that are only enjoyable if you are more then one person. Especially if you have to own more then one GBA SP and a Game Cube. Those two games seem interesting but I do play games alone most of the times, so why invest my money in them?! Especially if I have to buy another GBA so my gf could play with me? No way, I will definitely not getting a Game Cube.

5. Graphics before gameplay: It seems that a lot of people are only judging games about their graphics. What a mistake! Sure I want to have nice graphics on the newer systems, but the gameplay is still more important to me. I can live with errors as long as the game itself is fun. That's why I still play a lot of older games, theire just fun. No matter how outdated the graphics are.

Mandatory Water Levels
WWII based games
The new "Crime/Murder Simulator" genre that is so huge
Sequels
Crappy movie based games
Load Times
Modern games that are 80 hours long and no fun to play again afterwards.
The death of the Dreamcast.
Japan worship/fetish
2D franchises made into 3d
Games with a monthly fee
Yearly sports titles with no real imagination.
That I can no longer find anything older then N64 titles at all of my local game stores.

I agree with all of these. Here's my list:

1. Realism
2. Cutscenes
3. Stealth
4. Discs
5. Death of arcades

3. People who have nothing better to do than rag on Sony
That's me. :)

4. Gaming Tshirts.

Why does that bother you?

5. Sequels

I agree that some (perhaps most) are horrible, but without sequels, there would be no Super Punch-Out!!, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Zelda: A Link to the Past, or even Street Fighter II for that matter.

5. Girls who say they are into games.. then get to your apt and point at your ps2 saying "My brother has a super xbox like that.. lets play it.. do you have mario? I love that game"..

That's the least of my worries when I have a girl get to my apartment! If they're hot enough, they can point to my Neo-Geo and say "My father has that Atari 9700, and his favorite game on it is Sonic the Groundhog" for all I care! LOL

1. Companies preferring realism over fun and creative gameplay

2. Games that give you "freedom" to do anything you want, but give you no real incentive to do so

3. Action("\adventure") games having simple puzzles, just for the sake of... having simple puzzles

4. RPG's that make you spend 98% of your time organizing your inventory and equipping new items

5. Unnesessary violence and sex scenes, which serve the sole purpose of giving irresponsible parents another thing to bitch about

6. Quality games not getting the recognition they deserve

7. The slow death of 2D gaming on home consoles

8. 3D games with awkward cameras

9. 3D games with bad jumping-puzzles

10. 3D games period

Not necessarily my top choices but here are a couple things that really have bugged me since I started to focus my collecting on genesis games.

1. That switch from plastic boxes to cardboard boxes.

2. How many people in the US don't keep instruction books and cases. This especially bugs me in looking for genesis games since most of the games had the plastic cases. Look around on ebay for example, a lot of european and japanese mega drive games have boxes and of those many also have the instructions, but when I look for anything US released it rarely has the box with it.

3. Whenever I hunt for games for non-current systems all I can find are sports titles (EA games for genesis and snes, wrestling games for N64)
