3) Square - Enix merger
4) Flooding the market with current fads ( right now seemingly War games )

1) First-person shooters
2) EA Sports (Electronic Arts has had some incredible stuff in the past, so EA as a whole doesn't get trashed)
3) The new "Crime/Murder Simulator" genre that is so huge
4) Use of innate human reaction (ie-sex and blood) to sell a game
5) Voice-over narration (samples are cool. Narration is usually embarrassing to listen to.)

4. Konami of America (still waiting for an American port of Gradius 2... tick tock tick tock)
5. Appaloosa (you nearly killed Contra, you @#$%brains. )

(1) Teenie-boppers who play the latest game and say it's "great great great!" and then WE old-school gamers try it, and realize it's "mediocre mediocre mediocre"...... all pretty pictures & sounds but little substance. Example=Zelda Wind Waker
(2) People who only own one modern console, and put down all the others. (aka fanboys) Try to be more open-minded folks and/or buy a second machine.
(3) The current craze for online games. I think the single player vs. computer is FAR more fun. Example: No cheating.

7) Dumb*** News Reports about "Violent games make Poeple comment

- 2D vs 3D arguments. You might as well argue whether RPGs or SHMUPs are better.
- Anti-sports games arguments. They're popular, get over it.
- Anti <Company> arguments. Company X is *not* out to get you. Trust me.
- The Online movement. Nothing against it specifically, I just resent the implication that I shouldn't be enjoying one player experiences. Online gaming mildly interests me, but I'm still a solo gamer first and foremost.
- Previews. There's too many of 'em, for too long a time, and they never really tell you much. It's just a way to advertise a game 'gratis' for months on end.

Damn, us EB employees aren't getting any love here! While I agree that there are some idiots working for us/Gamestop, most of them (the people I work with, at least) are extremely knowledgeable about gaming, be it classic or current. So don't hate us just because we work in a game store. Some of us do know what we're talking about!

Crap. Sorry to double-post, but I got so caught up in defending EBers that I forgot to give my top five list.
5. The trend of late to make a violent game and market it toward the "urban" community. (In the latest issue of GMR, GTA/True Crime/Getaway-style games were referred to as "Urban Life Simulators". Seriously.)
4. Naive pre-peubescent gamers who call PS1 "old-skool" but are in fact idiots. They're young, yes, so maybe I should cut them some slack, but let's face it: they're idiots.
3. (To turn it around on all you EB-employee haters) People who come in and assume you know nothing about games, just because you work at EB.
2. Hardly any game companies seem to want to publish funny games. What's up with that?
1. Any company that waters down their games to make them more marketable to aforementioned idiots (ex.--Deus Ex IW, Starcraft Ghost) or cancels games because they don't think the masses will buy them (Lucasarts, I'm looking in you direction--Sam and Max 2, Full Throttle 2, and where the hell is the next Monkey Island game?)

My dislikes are quite easy to define and as such, easy to list.
1. The lack of Sega in the gaming hardware market.
2. PC gaming.
3. 'Western' RPG's e.g. Morrowind.
4. Real Time Strategy games.
5. ....and yeah, fanboys.

1) Stuff being overinflated in price, ie "RARE CORPSE KILLER FOR 32X" on ebay or loose n64's marked at 50 dollars at garage sales, ect.
2) Wrong game / case combos. There's a capcom fighter for saturn at my local pawn with a copy of sewer shark in it. Ugh.
3) The time before now when the US market seemed very intent on not letting us know (as kids) that games came from another country. Especially Nintendo power....damn you NP, the n64DD does exist!
4) Current market's focus on casual gaming.
5) Super Ultra Franchise Collection++ with two great games(out of the 50)!

1. Prices for old software being overinflated because someone thought it was a good idea to horde video games in basement.(geek really is in now)
2. Paying 200+ dollars for a game that was only 40-50 dollars when it came out a decade ago.
3. People be it at a garage sale, pawn shop or thrift store using ebay to price their goods.
4. People who pay outrageous prices for video games on ebay causing #3 to happen.
5. Nintendo for not jumping at Mr. Gates offer for buy out. I do miss the days when it was just two video game giants slugging it.

1. Fanboy of any system- I admit that I used to be a sony fanboy back when ps1 very first came out and refused to try anything else out. But now I am open to pretty much anything. If it is a fun game I will like it.
2. People who are close minded to anything that doesn't have a mature rating on it- I actually got into an argument the other day with this guy that I know. We were talking about games and I asked if he had ever played Super Mario Sunshine on the Gamecube. He hadn't so I told him what it was about and how it is one of the funnest game I had ever played. He went off on how games like that are "gay" (what he actually said) and how people who play games that are kid-like are gay. I said that he should at least play it before he judges it. He refused and said that it was gay. He then went off on how he loves Devil May Cry 2. So, I gave up and decided that he was another mainstream gamer that only likes games with lots of blood and violence.
3. The current fad in RPGs to just be a big long cinematic movie. This ruins the rpg experience for me, personally.
4. Kids of today refusing to play older games because the graphics "suck" or whatever.
5. Not having enough money to buy all of the older playstation 1 games that I am really wanting.

I've done this once already but I have some more, everybody please second me on these!!!
1 Game resalers that would use the gamestop/funcoland price sheets as their pricing for games. The Music Recyclery by me was using a 14 month old price sheet after they stopped issueing them monthly. That urks me to no end.
2 Fanboys all the way!!! Especially the ones that hate a company (Sega comes to mind) and won't try anything they release.
3 Game resalers who think they know all and try to hardball you if you complain about their prices and say if you complain then I'll raise the price. I hope you get my jist.
4 People who religiously used funcoland back then as the rarity and value of their games. AHHHH! Those people need to be dropped kicked in the head.
5 Thrift shops that can't keep a consistant price on their games. I really love GoodWill I get lots of stuff there but one time I go there and SNES/Genesis games are .99 next 2.99 next time 1,99 SNES/Genesis consoles are usually 5.99 to 9.99 Cool. I find a N64, immediately jumps to 24.99 then one time there was a PSX console with the power cord only for 50.00. I absolutely hate that stereotype/mentality.
I actually have a sixth one. If anyone else feels this way too feel free to chime in.
6 Thrit shops (usually Salvation Army) that are dumps and sell everything even if its smashed and broken. I was there once and they had game controllers with missing buttons, cracked plugs, I even found a nes that must have been beaten with a sledge hammer, it was that bad. I found ripped up furniture broken shelves, and on top of it they must really want to rip you off with it too. Dangit' morans, just throw it out already because I hate having to shuffling through your broken CRAP to find anything decent!!!!!
Sorry everyone but I had to rant!
Any of this happen to anyone else around here??

2. Bad camera, bad control. ie RE
3. Inability to skip through movies. ie BUG! on Saturn
4. Having to get perfect ratings to get good ending or specials. ie SA2 and the 3d orignal level

7. No Nights Sequel, its on sega ages for the Ps2 though
8. Online only games in general, and online cheaters.
9. Shock factor game. ie Manhunt

1. Japan's clear lack of direction and complacency of North America's (read: FPS/RTS) domination of online gaming
2. Nintendo's imminent doom
3. the fact that entertainment media is now presented at a resolution higher than conventional T.V's (read: affordable T.V.'s) can display- and T.V.'s that are capable of displaying optimum graphics are currently unaffordable.
4. RPG story-lines have stagnated needlessly.
5. the declining popularity of adventure games (beyond good and evil anyone?)

I thought of another one:
23: Releasing all of the games a t the Christmas season. Beyond good and Evil!EXACTLY! This is probably ONE of the reasons DOOM 3 was delayed. It knew it couldn't compete.
Still, what a dumb idea. it's like a big battle for "Big Game of the Season" supremacy.
My list...
1.) Sony's inability to make good hardware, yet still owns the market. i.e. Microsoft of the Game world. (I know.. MS = Software, not Hardware.)
2.) GBA ports of compilation collections (Like Atari and Midway and Activision and such) that have WAY less games than the Console ports. WHAT THE FUDGE? Like you can't fit a ton of small games on a cart. You get 20 on the Console version, but 4 on the GBA port. That's bull.
3.)Final Fantasy MMCXXVIII 4 1/2... ad infinum.
4.)EA's STUPID decision to get someone ELSE do the Cube and Xbox ports of NFS:HP2 just to piss me off. And the whole "Underground" street racing thing. not just in NFS either. Cities don't usually have streets laid out like that! WTF?
5.) The lack of a Nintendo compilation "Greatest Hits" collection in leiu of continual release of $20 "Classics".
6.) "Video games cause kids to kill other kids! LET'S BAN THEM!!!" people.
7.) Not having sequels to "Beyond Good and Evil" like we so rightfully deserve.
8.) Nintendo being 3rd place and being dumped on for being "different".
