How the hell do you clean hucards?

The only thing that I could think of is with a white eraser (didn't want to try alcohol on it), which hardly helped. Is it find to use some rubbing alcohol on them?

Sure. I've done it and experienced no foul results.

I use rubbing alcohol as well. Works fine. Just take a Qtip, dip it in, shake it off, then use the Qtip to clean the contacts.

I use a spray called DE-OXIT and it is like magic spray for corrosion, you can pick it up at most electronic stores like radio shack,and alcohol unless 100% pure has water in it and will cause corrosion.

The air we breath also contains water, so unless you store in a complete vacuum there is no getting around moisture. I doubt that even a 70% alcohol solution would cause any corrosion greater than air itself over the long haul.

It is fine to use water or solutions containing water (like rubbing alcohol) as long as you completely dry it right away. The water in rubbing alcohol will evaporate right away due to the presence of the alcohol.

I would definitely like to try this deoxit stuff, though...

the water will collect under the contacts because the board that the circuit is on is porous, I deal with this sort of thing on a daily basis, I have seen this destroy many pieces of electric equip. pour a bottle of rubbing alcohol on a sponge and let the alcohol evaporate and see how much water is left, it is pretty amazing, not to mention the evaporation of the alcohol is cooling and condensates the moisture in the air, if you use the deoxit just whipe it off after you spray it on, look at the contacts and there will be a slight pink film on the metal, it protects the contacts and still allows for conduction.

You're not the first person in a video game forum to claim alcohol will damage circuit boards but until you folk come up with some references that point out this phenomenon I'm a disbeliever. You act like it's dunking the entire thing in a bucket of water but with a swab of isopropyl juice the risks are low. As porous as boards can be they can just as easily dry out too, the water has to go somewhere afterall. ;)

I have a can of de-oxit at work, the stuff works great, and yes it is pinkish in color.

I used it in my atari 2600 paddles, they are like new now.

for all metal contacts i use:

Fiberglass Eraser

to burnish the contacts, then

Electro-Wash CZ

to clean the dust and debris, then

Deox IT Power Booster 100% Solution

to clean the contacts, then

ProGold G100L Conditioning Treatment 100% Solution

to condition the contacts.
