did anyone just see this report on ABC world news? heeeeeeelarious...

parents and womens groups are speaking out against the societal evil that is NBA BALLERS. the game apparently teaches kids to be greedy and "all about money" and the fact that you can acquire groupies objectifies women...

MLB slugfest was criticized for obvious reasons..."oh my god, those players are punching each other!"

 heeeere we go again. how soon until mario games come under fire for teaching kids to oppress and abuse fictional creatures? think they can get PETA in on that one? LOL

Yeah, I was just coming to post it. I love the mothers.

"I didn't know what this game contained. Had I known, I might not have bought it!"

Um.....now who's fault is this exactly? You nine year old probably has GTA, BMX XXX, Manhunt on the shelf too. x_x If your that concerned, you should be more aware.

"I think he may think it's alright if he punches someone on the baseball field."

Only if you raised him that way.

Now, I wonder why NFL Blitz, NBA Jam, NHL Hitz, or any of the other extreme sports games didn't get any screen time. What about Tony Hawk? You know that you actually FALL OFF your skateboard in that one! LOL

Don't these games have ratings? YES:
- Teen (Content suitable for persons ages 13 or older.)
- Violence

Why don't these Mo-fo parents look at these ratings?

There needs to be a new law: "Anyone who complains that a game is violent, but buys it anyway, should have their parental rights removed."'

I'm not a parent but in their defense I can understand why someone who didn't know better might have thought that a sports title might have been just be an innocent sports title.

True, but thats not an excuse to ignore the ratings on games.

I've seen far too many parents just buy a game simply because thier kids want it and don't even bother looking at the rating. When i worked at a game store i always congradulated any parent that took the effort to check the rating or ask if it was appropiate for children.

As for that woman's comment on "NBA Ballers"...I mean damn, did she even look at the game? All you really had to do was look at the artwork and realize that the game was "about the money"

Whenever I sell a game to a parent for their young-ish kid, whether it's a 9 year old or a 16 year old teen, I show them the box on the back. Sometimes a T game may just have a couple things, sometimes a bunch. By showing them the "contents" of the game, I have been able to talk them out of buying a game they wouldn't have wanted the kid to have. This is good. The kid's usually bummed, but most of the time understands. Sometimes the parent's still fine with it, probably because they trust their kid to know that it's a game, and that they shouldn't do the stuff in it.

When did taking responsibility for yourself become unacceptable? Even if there was some great injustice here, which there isn't, there are some nasty evil things in this world. A parent is supposed to be the one who teaches the kid what's right and wrong so they know how to deal with this kind of thing. And the parent is supposed to be the one who makes sure the kid isn't getting adult content that might be harmful. What are game companies supposed to do? Never make adult oriented games because a dumb parent might not be able to interpret the ratings or whatever? Stupid.... Why do people waste their time with this shit?

Yes I agree, but iis it too much effort to look at the "TEEN" or "VIOLENCE" rating on the back?

Parents: stop being lazy. LOOK.

Exactly.

Most parents who come into my store already know about the ratings. If their child wants the M game, or the T game and they're too young, they will know to look into it better, but the ones who aren't aware of the rating, well I tell them about it. I show them.

The problem is a lot of kids buy the games from sellers who don't ask for age proof.

So it's either the parent's fault for not checking, or it's not. Actually, I guess the fault lies in the hands of the person selling the game. Well, much of the time.

There are still the Teen games that the kid can be a Teen, but it might have stuff their parents don't want them to see, still they'll buy it anyway and the loop begins again with the pitch forks and the yelling to the media and the blaming GTA..

*sigh*
