At a local flea market I've finally found a buttload of classic games. One item I noticed was Maniac Mansion for the NES boxed for $12.95. I did not open to ensure it was complete. I searched on eBay and could not find enough justification to go back for it.
I don't collect NES but I thought someone here could tell me if it would be worth it to get. I think it's only R5 or so. If anyone is interested let me know and I can go back and check if it is complete.

If it's complete, it's probably worth more than that. It's kind of a rare game (though there are more obscure ones, I'm sure) especially if it's one of the first-pressings. Later pressings were edited for some language and the fact that you could blow up a hamster in the microwave with Razor or Syd.
It's a classic game, and is still really funny despite Nintendo's censorship. I payed over $20 recently for JUST the cart. Even if it's not worth anything and you've never played it, get it for yourself. It's a great game.

The price can vary on eBay, but it's definitely a higher priced game. Boxed for $13 is definitely worth it. It's likely the best game of it's kind on the NES (although I could count the amount there were on one hand LOL).
King's Quest on the NES was a great attempt, but by them trying to make the graphics too detailed and dithered, it made it hard to make out what items were part of the background and which you could pick up, as well as what they even were, heh.

Sounds like it's been getting a bit more demand over the years. Buying a loose copy of Maniac Mansion was one of my first purchases on eBay (so it had to have been around 1999). Back then I was able to snag a cart for $12 total (8 bucks was the winning bid I think).
For a copy with the box (and possibly all the other stuff), that sounds like a good price to me. As far as pure enjoyment value goes, I think it's more than worth it. It's a really great game.

I personaly think the PC version is still better, due in part to Nintendo's editing of the game.
It's DAMN hard, also. :D

If you just want to play the game, a spiffy freeware remake recently became available at http://people.freenet.de/lucasfangames/maniac/games_eng.htm .

Fantastic game........definitely worth more than the asking price. Even though the NES version does have some slight censoring, it's an excellent point and click adventure with a strange yet hilarious sense of humor. The music in the NES version is excellent as well.
One of my all time favorites......Day of the Tentacle for the PC (MM's sequel) is worth tracking down as well.
