HOLY CRAP! Has anyone else tried the new Spider-Man 2 game yet?
YOWZA!!!
+ Very open gameplay (they weren't kidding when they compared it to GTA)
+ Very bright and sharp graphics
+ Very easy controls (with lots o' upgrades)
+ Great storyline
+ Bruce Campbell (oh, and everyone else too)
- Not seeing anywhere to enter cheats (no black Spidey suit for me, I guess)
- A slight button masher when it comes to fighting
- My girlfriend is still mad at me for playing for 4 hours straight yesterday
All in all, a really fun, fantastic game!!! Spider-Man on Dreamcast is still my favorite though.

I nearly blew my gasket when I saw Spider-Man hanging from the face of the Statue of Liberty in the ads. You can explore THAT MUCH of New York?
By the way, who the heck is playing Doctor Octopus in the film? I was hoping it would be Christopher Walken, but I can tell from the trailers that it definitely ISN'T him.

It's Alfred Molina from Identity, Frida and a crap load of other movies. To me, he'll always be Satipo from Raiders of the Lost Ark!!!

I just picked up this game and I can honestly say, this game is one of the best ones I've played on modern systems. Imagine New York City (OK, mostly Manhattan Island). Now imagine you can go ANYWHERE via webswinging. And the city's built to scale. Want to climb to the top of the Empire State Building? Go ahead. Then jump off and, as you plummet past a building, send out a webstrand and swing like a bat out of Hell on the momentum!
Cool. :eek 2:
Also, the detail built in is amazing. Swing through a full-lit Times Square. Stop muggings and purse snatchings down on the street. And - in a great touch - "Ground Zero" is represented by a blank field with two sets of floodlights shining into the night sky, just like they did to honor the fallen Towers.
What else? Well, imagine the open-ended gameplay of GTAIII. Now imagine that you're Spidey, swinging randomly through the city, in search of ne'er-do-wells. Or rescue folks who have fallen off building. Or chase down carjackers. Or pick up an accident victim and webswing to the nearest hospital. Or foil an armed robbery. Or just explore the city by swinging through the damn thing. I started at one end of Manhattan and, swinging straight through, it still took me 10 minutes to reach the other side.
Finally, there's actually a REAL STORY going on that you can check into from time-to-time. More great villian goodness. Rhino. Mysterio. Black Cat. And, of course, Doc Ock. Will Quentin Beck discredit Spidey? Is Cat a hero or villian? Think you can dodge Rhino when he's swinging a CAR like a baseball bat? :eek 2: And, of course, Ock is slinking around nearby.
Buy it. Simply for the joy to real-looking webswinging through a fully-living, real-sized New York. Wow. Frackin' WOW.

Having read a bunch of older Spider-Man comics and seeing Dr. Octopus in them really had me believing that they'd recruit Elton John for the role. That would be hilarious. LOL

I really REALLY can't wait to get this game. I mean, damn, I want it SO MUCH!
I think I'll pick up the PC version today, solely based on this topic, I mean damn....it's only 24.99 used. :)
Can't. Wait.

Two great Spidey-to-Doc-Ock putdowns:
One from the comics: "C'mon... You think I'm scared of a guy that looks like Roy Orbison?"
And one from - of all places - "The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man" ride at Universal's Islands of Adventure: (Doc fires a laser at Spidey and misses) "Geez Doc! Your aim is almost as bad as your haircut!"

Just a warning about the PC version -- if I recall correctly, the PC and the Console Spiderman 2 games are TOTALLY DIFFERENT! I read they were made by two different teams. Check that out before buying it.
I believe the console game is available on the PS2 and the XBox. There's a GBA one also, but no clue what that is like.

I checked up, and yeah, the PC version is a dumbed down E rated version that's linear like the first one. Grrrrrrr....I am ANGRY cause I wanted to play it at work.

PS2, Xbox, Game Boy Advance (looks like a side-scroller, probably not quite as good) AND GAMECUBE. Lest we forget it still exists.
Just to jump on the bandwagon, the game is incredible - exactly what I wanted out of a Spider-Man title. Too bad about the PC version - but then, I don't believe I've bought an action game for a computer since roughly 1996 or so.
Hey, now that I think about it, we may reached the final sign of the apocalypse - both the movie and the game are good AT THE SAME TIME! X_x

Just found this jaw-dropping bit of trivia. How big is Manhattan in the Spider-Man 2 game?
**13 square MILES. Built TO SCALE. O_O **
No wonder I'm still exploring every inch of this damn game. Huge fully realized world. Great fun. (Screw Doc Ock though. Mysterio's a BITCH.)

I could'nt remember if Spiderman 2 was made for the GC. I figured Activision was following suit and dropping support for the system as well. I'm glad to see it's out.
Still, if I get the game I'll get the XBox version because with my current setup I get the best video and audio feed from it.

Buy it this week at Target and get a free $10 gift card! (*shameless plug for my employer*)
They've even got matching Spidey gift cards... @_@ ...and they're SHINY, too!

Okay, the advice of my DP posters has been pretty good so far, so on my way back from seeing the Spider Man 2 movie today I picked up the XBox version of the game along with the guide.
And yowza is right -- what a fun game this one is! I sat down to try it for a few minutes before bed and the next thing I know almost two hours have passed! :eek 2:
First off, I had a weird problem with the sound. I have a 5.1 dolby surrond sound speaker system, and when I play XBox games it sets my receiver at Dolby Digital. Only for THIS game that setting gives you NO SOUND! I don't know why this is, and I'd be thankfull for anyone else who has the XBox version and might be able to advise me. Some of the other sound settings caused voices to only be heard on the rear speakers, and I finally had to settle for six channel sound -- the same I use when TV watching. It's okay, but not the surrond sound I should get.
Second, Bruce Cambel plays your friendly helpfull advisor when the game starts -- NOT! LOL LOL LOL Boy, did this guy crack me up!
Third, I STILL can't quite get the hang of web swinging, even on Easy Mode. Probaly just need more pratice in it, but I wish I could webswing around the city a lot eaiser then I am.
Minor quibbles aside, I really like the game. It does have a lot of open ended aspects to it, and you can work on minor missions, advance the plot, or just explore and try to find green icons. Toby and Kristin as well as the guy who played Doc Oc in the movie lend their voices, and the graphics are very sharp and detailed. I wish there was some music, but that's allright.
Anyone who likes the idea of 'open ended' games should really check this out. And that goes double if you're a Spider Man fan.
One last piece of advice -- the game seems to follow some of the same themes and spoilers as the movie, so see the film first before you start playing this.
Oh, and the load time is curiously slow for the XBox......well, like I said, minor quibbles aside, this is a great game worth paying full price for. I'd give it as of right now a 8.5 out of 10.

I got the first game just recently because of suggestions from you guys. And it actually is good. And if the second is that much better than the first, I can't wait to get it. Let me beat the first, then I'll decide how long I wanna wait to get the second. (Only a select few games are worthy to be purchased at full price. $30 is usually the maximum I pay.)
